  1. I won't go that far because any win right now is a good win. Obviously there are major concerns going forward, but let's all be happy for this one.

  2. CUSA is the perfect place for us right now. Regional rivals = higher attendance. With UTEP, UTSA, Rice, Tulsa, L Tech and smu (2014-2017) on the schedule our attendance average should jump by 5,000. I would like to see Texas State on the schedule every year rather than a MAC team. Some form of rotation that would bring Baylor, TT, TCU, and Houston here would be even better.

  12. Who the hell are you to be casting stones at other institutions in the first place? You should damn sure hope your university does what is fiscally responsible for the university, wherever that may be, as opposed to appeasing the fragile ego of kids like you who pound their chest with hubris who undeniable have no clue how the world works in grown up land. Your school isn't ivy league nor one of the big kids on the block, so stop trying to pretend it is. You have obvious inferiority issues, so you come here to bash others, in some sad attempt to make yourself feel elevated. You are the stalker here slick. Are you that much of a loser, while still in college, you waste your time on other universities web sites? Especially while on holiday. Go away and get back to Warcraft or whatever guys like you do in your mom's basement.

  23. * UNT once hosted the Texas A & M Aggies in Texas Stadium before approx. 50,000 fans. * UNT travelled 20,000 fans down to UT-Austin to play the Longhorns back in the day * On a Tuesday night North Texas had 17,000 traveling fans make the trip to the Big Easy for a NO's Bowl game. It will be simply amazing what a winning football program will allow us to do once again, but this time around each of our UNT constituencies, ie, our main campus enrollment, DFW alums, Denton/Denton County populations, etc, are all very much larger. GMG!

  24. I hate the scheduling of the SEC and hope they will address the rotations and playoff partners moving forward. I also hope most of the fanbases within the southeast are fired out of a cannon into the sun, but we don't always get what we want. Meanwhile, only two Big 12 teams finished with fewer than 4 losses and they both get chances to show what they can do against top teams. OU/UT fans I know are fascinated and bitching endlessly, yet K State fans seem to realize, "welp, we lost to Baylor. It sucks, but we get it." If anyone has a gripe out there right now, it's Oregon. Should be a fun game tonight.

  25. Interesting analysis from the interwebz: "This down year in the SEC was masked all season by the SEC's unique conference scheduling advantage. The top 6 teams in the SEC had a combined record of 39-9 in conference games. It is mathematically impossible for the top 6 teams in the Big 12 to have had a record that good. The best combined record that the top 6 teams in the Big 12 could have mustered would have included 15 conference losses. The reasons for this are (1) the SEC plays only 8 conference games each year (unlike others such as the Big 12 and the PAC 12 who play 9), and (2) the SEC has a uniquely large BCS conference (14 teams). Thus, each SEC team faces only 61.5% (8/13) teams in the conference (unlike, e.g., the Big 12 teams who play everyone else in the conference (9/9)). This is a huge structural advantage that the SEC has over every other conference. The best SEC teams don't meet each other as often, don't inflict as many guaranteed conference losses on one another, and thus create a false impression that the SEC is superior to all other conferences. Especially when there are a few weak-sister teams -- like this year's Auburn (0-8), Kentucky (0-8), and Tennessee (1-7) -- the SEC's size and scheduling quirks give the better SEC teams a huge advantage that is completely ignored by the media. This year Alabama met Georgia in the conference championship. This is not surprising because Alabama was the only West Div. team that did not have to face the top three teams from the East Div. and, similarly, Georgia was the only East Div. team that did not have to face a singlce top 3 team from the West Div. Here is my reasoning: The best possible combined record for the top 6 teams in the SEC would occur if the top team in each division had zero losses, the second place team 1 loss and the third place team 2. (There are other permutations, but all would lead to three losses for the top 3 teams in a division. For example, the top three teams could all be tied with one loss each -- that would still lead to a combined three losses for the top three teams.) Since there are two divisions, when the SEC finishes the regular season, the best possible conference record would include six losses, seven after the championship game. The best possible record the top 6 teams in the Big 12 would occur if the top team had zero losses, the second place 1 loss, the third place 2 losses, the fourth place 3, and so on. (Again, there are other permutations of won-loss distributions, but the minimum number of losses is never less than this example.) Since there are no divisions in the Big 12, the fewest number of losses would be 0+1+2+3+4+5 = 15. Thus, it was mathematically impossible for the top 6 Big 12 teams to have had as few losses as the top 6 SEC teams, but no one accounts for this when ranking the teams."

  27. Craig Thompson A+ He took what was once the best non-AQ TV contract but then became an albatross and got it modified so they can sell more games and make more money and get more exposure. A few weeks ago he was literally in a position where Arkansas State and Louisiana believed they were MWC bound once the Big East pulled two more MWC. In a matter of weeks, he won back Boise State. By most accounts is expected to announce the return of San Diego State and may be relatively close to getting BYU back. When everyone panicked he stayed calm and didn't burn bridges. More importantly he made sure the door stayed open by ignoring those who said that the MWC should just accept reality and go ahead and take NMSU and Idaho. Taking Idaho almost certainly would have closed the door on Boise returning and NMSU wasn't going to advance the cause either. Top notch performance. Karl Benson D Came in acting as if UNT and FIU were gone rather than going through the motions of trying to hold the league together. His quick acting cowboying of running Georgia State in by using a specially empowered committee seriously weakened him after a short time on the job. Adding Texas State and UTA were OK moves but he has learned from the opening mistake. Six weeks out from MTSU and FAU leaving he hasn't tried to ramrod an immediate response. The membership has calmed down and already some schools are actively advocating to allow MTSU and FAU have early departure because they've used the past few weeks to explore schedule options. ASU's AD made no bones about it in a radio interview earlier this week, he's got a game lined up that he wants and he needs them out. That means the panic is gone. Didn't take the bait when pressure was applied by other commissioners to help NMSU and Idaho out of their jam. Brit Bankowsky D- It started as a smart idea. Take one maybe two teams to offset losing four. Get CUSA to 9 or 10 members. One to fill the Texas hole and maybe one to appease the east. It quickly spiraled out of control. Depending on whom you believe, La.Tech and UTSA came into the mix either to help MWC in their gutting of the WAC or to insure that the Sun Belt didn't add two programs that might strengthen the league. Either way it seemed like a decent idea, get back to 12. Except the eastern membership balked. They would block Tech and UTSA unless they were thrown a bone. So they got Charlotte and ODU. Six teams added, one with 8 years of playing an FBS schedule three with zero years experience in FBS. Then the Big East strikes again and CUSA reacts again. Taking an MTSU that is .500 over the past five years and pretty well run program and an FAU that well hasn't hit .500 but at least didn't just fire their coach to hire Ron Turner. Mike Aresco F You can't blame him for losing Louisville and Rutgers or Notre Dame but you can certainly blame him for the loss of the seven basketball schools. It was a classic in speed over thought. Adding ECU made sense but Tulane broke the camel's back. Tulane was sprung on the presidents for a fast vote to keep things quiet. The few football presidents spoke glowingly of Tulane's new financial committment and sterling academic reputation and nice location. The vote passes without the AD's being consulted and the presidents get back home to a firestorm. The AD's and coaches are livid. Yet another school added that hurt the strength of basketball and a school that plays basketball in an 80 year old (but recently modernized) 3,600 seat facility and has had no need to look at adding more seats. With the ever shifting line-up faced the problem of being obligated to find at least one more western school to make the league work, repeatedly rejected by BYU and Air Force approached UNLV, Fresno and New Mexico and the three knew the question to ask thanks to Commissioner Thompson, "What's the latest number from your TV consultants?". Depending on who you believe there is either no number or one that is a fifth of the number used when Boise was first courted. The only thing propping the league up right now is that Houston, SMU, Tulane, Memphis, UCF, and ECU don't see a 20 team C-USA as a viable option and Cincinnati and UConn need some place to get their mail while courting the ACC.

  28. Hardwick had 31 minutes....for those of us not at the game, did he simply run the team better than Alzee (or Jones has in the past)? We haven't seen much of him to this point in the season. Shooting percentages were higher for most of our players, as well. It's just Troy, so it could be an aberation, but could it also be the product of better play at the point??

  29. What Tony is missing more than anything is a good teacher that could get across to him how to use his body in the post. He plays way too vertical in the post, relying on his athleticism. You can see this by how easily he allows guys to front him and then calls for the pass over the top. I would love to see him spread his legs, drop his center of gravity about a foot and a half, and imprint his ass into the stomach of a defender. Just once. Playing the post has become a lost art in basketball. No finer example of this than Tony.

  35. I posted this elsewhere, sorry if dupe. I agree with Harry and hope that egos will allow something like this to happen. The concerns of folks at SMU/UH/etc... can be alleviated somewhat by creating separate divisions so they can tell their alumni that they 'won' and don't have to play teams like us except for every few years (even though they are willing to sign 6 year OOC contracts with us, which may last longer than the conferences nowadays. How much sense does something like the following make: UH SMU UTEP Tulsa Tulane Memphis Rice UNT UTSA Southern Miss La Tech UAB It keeps all 4 private schools together, separates the teams located closely so they don't have to play each other every year unless they want to, and allows stronger teams to schedule tougher OOC games if they want to try to bump up their SOS. The oly sports get to reap the benefit of the local competition. As Harry points out, the Eastern teams could do the same type of thing. In the end, it would benefit everybody. Attack the big conferences with guerrilla tactics. Stay on the minds of the locals by playing against local competition frequently. You might even convince some alumni to sell one or two of their orange and maroon shirts and trade up to a green one.

  37. You say 53 percent like it's a bad thing. There's a grand total of one team in the country that's shooting better than that for the season. Yeah, I understand they're awful. I'm not denying that. But I am refuting what Emmitt said, which was that "we looked awful before Walton got hurt." That statement is simply false. I'm not going around pimping a victory over a D2 school, but to say that we looked "AWFUL" is ridiculous. We held them to 30% shooting. We held them to 49 points. We forced 23 turnovers. The rebounds is the only troubling thing. And you're complaining that we only had 8 assists when we scored 90 points? Look, there are plenty of things to complain about, enough that I'd think you wouldn't need to manufacture problems that aren't there. I'm not even saying things would be any different than they are right now if Walton was healthy. But to simply make things up is absurd.

  40. I wouldn't say "never", but it would be very unlikely that Houston comes back to the CUSA. If they don't and decide to go to MWC (if even invited), then they will probably regret it. It would be a huge hit to their fanbase. Although CougarKing will deny it, Houston doesn't have a big, dedicated fanbase that will travel well to the west coast. Same goes with SMU, but that won't stop them because they are too prideful to admit that CUSA is a better fit.

  43. I said this before and I'll say it again, Skyline is a program that we need to recruit the heck out of. Look at our De Soto pipeline. There is no way we get a 4-star transfer like Darius Terrell if we hadn't reeled in their "lower-rated" prospects in Zach Orr and Jimmerson. My point is, players at these big time programs are able to compete usually from day 1 after having to earn spots from other D-1 players, even if they weren't 5, 4, or even 3 stars. Also, they can sway their higher-rated high school buddies over here if things don't workout at x school and they want to come back home. We unfortunately don't have this advantage with Johnson.
