  1. Let's face it, whether you're a Republican or Democrat, you've been screwed. Baby boomers and their politicans have run up a huge bill and we're left to pay for it...us and our children. They said we were worthless when we were out cutting class and getting laid. But, in reality, they're just more jealous that we got more overall trim than they did, and we did it in the hey day of women - the 80s - when almost every woman in America was firming her assets with aerobics three or four times a week. So, they've run up their massive debt and are sexually frustrated (hence, their baby boom creation of Viagra), and we have to somehow pay for it. Screw you, Baby Boomers! Quitters! You quit Vietnam and quit paying your bills! You quit and shirk. I'm glad I dated and slept with your daughters in your own houses! We've disrespected one another, so we're even. You are my enemy until my Generation's Republicans and Democrats save the day, like they're going to have to. Put your pencil back in your pants. We'll figure this one out without you. Filchers.

  2. Hey guys I am sure that you all saw the recent posts for fans that were needed for the Texas Monthly college football fan photo shoot. Well I ended up going and doing the photo shoot and being a representative of UNT down in Austin. It was a great gig, and they put me up in the Omni hotel for 2 nights down here in Austin. Texas Monthly couldn't find any other UNT fans so I got my girl friend who is a UNT alumni as well to participate. Well we got to the shoot today, and it seemed like there was a stereotypical fan from each FBS school in Texas. Here were a few stereotypes I noticed about a few of the schools fans. The TCU and SMU fans that arrived were very typical. They came dressed in with their shirts tucked in, hair combed over, and wearing their sperrys. The Tech fans were the first ones to start drinking, and had a flag that said Tech drinking team. The A&m fans had some of their male fictional military cheerleaders there. The Texas fans were nice and had good things to say about our university. The Rice, U of H and UTEP fans all were very nice as well. We all talked about football and how our schools are moving in the right direction. I showed pictures of our new palace, and they agreed it was awesome. I had a lot of fun down here and tried to promote our University as best as I could. I can't get to any more specifics about what was done with the shoot but look out for the September edition of Texas Monthly, Go Mean Green!

  3. and neither are the topics of Mike Leach, UTA to the WAC, and NCAA punishment of Ga Tech. Those are posted on the front page of this fourm but no outrage about them posted here. Why the outrage? I cant figure it out. Maybe people should read the article. It main topic is that UTSA isn't going to have as easy a time making it as they hope. Of course this is GoMeanGreen.com where any post about a FCS college in Texas doing anything is bound to be followed by posting on how said college is "passing us by"

  4. If UCF leaves, Florida is no longer a viable state for CUSA. It makes no sense to stay in that saturated market with no rivals for FIU. UNT is the best option for CUSA if UCF leaves. It is a perfect fit for a Houston/SMU/Rice/Tulsa/UNT rivalry.

  7. I don't envy the WAC. But, they are having their crap kicked in by the illegal BCS-system, so I've got to grit my teeth and wish them success. That being said, the Big East should extend us an invitation before it's too late and the Big 12 (with 10 schools) snaps us up.

  17. As of right now as this minute, 62.62% expect us to win between 5 and 8 games. Fellas, I think that shows there is some true optimism in the fan base. I agree we should win at least five, having won three last year with a bum coaching staff and many key injuries. My chant remains the same: (1) Coaching experience matters (2) The Sun Belt isn't a high climb Let's go win some and whatnot! We are superior race of Denton; bring your women and children to our new stadium to witness the spectacle of our resurgence and, finally, our day in the sun!

  19. WOW...can you spell dominate, and then lose??? Ouch, how do you forget where the net is located in the shootout., and how in the world did that thing get to a shootout or even extra time for that matter??? Should have been a 4or 5 to 2 win for the US. But, it was not to be...congrats to the Japanese team. Really the "feel good" story of the World Cup and they played their game to perfection throughout the tournament. The ladies of the US did us all proud and played their hearts out, but it was just not to be, but thanks for the exciting times and great games. You did yourselves and your sport proud. Can't say it wasn't exciting, just wasn't the ending I was looking forward to celebrating.

  21. Georgia Tech was fined $100,000 by the NCAA, stripped of its 2009 ACC championship in football and placed on four years of probation on Thursday for failure to cooperate with its investigation into the football and men’s basketball programs. Those weren’t the only penalties, which stemmed from what the NCAA described as an isolated instance of former standout wide receiver Demaryius Thomas allegedly receiving $312 in impermissible gifts, and grew to Morgan Burnett allegedly taking gifts and misleading NCAA investigators. Both have denied taking improper benefits. In addition, more penalties were self-imposed and accepted by the NCAA: Public reprimand and censure. (Oh no!)Four years of probation from July 14, 2011 through July 13, 2015. The public report further details the conditions of this probation. (Yeah, we'll dig into that)A reduction of two men’s basketball recruiting days during the 2011 summer evaluation period (self-imposed by the university) [TWO WHOLE DAYS?! WOW!].A limit of 10 official visits for men’s basketball for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years. (Is that total, or per student?)A vacation of all contests won by the football team during the 2009 season after November 24. (That would be one win... against Clemson)

  22. What I'd like to see now is an annual Metroplex Classic during the Christmas season WAC (UTA) CUSA (SMU) Sunbelt (UNT) Big East (TCU) These are all mid-major programs; as TCU will be in the basement for a number of years. The tournament could be at the American Airline Center or rotate each year in Ft Worth, Arlington, Dallas or Denton (@ Bill Blakeley Court). Of course this would be a 2-day tournament (Friday night & Saturday evening) You could include the women's teams or top HS teams in Tarrant, Denton, Collin & Denton counties. Bring in Midwestern State to play A&M Commerce. (not sure if they are in the same conference. Anyway, what better way to showcase these Metroplex schools in front of the top area HS recruits. With SMU's haul, UNT's haul and better recruiting from UTA & TCU, there should not be any excuse for this not to happen! Brett Vito can call the head coaches/ AD's to obtain commitments. All the local papers and media will be ready to call out SMU (to the entire metroplex) when they so NO!

  26. Take from it what you will but here's a writeup on Wikipedia. Can reducing income tax rates increase government revenue? In theory, the government collects no revenue at either zero or 100% tax rates. So there is some intermediate point at which government revenue is maximized. Lowering tax rates from 100% to this hypothetical rate that maximizes revenue would theoretically raise revenue, while continuing to lower tax rates below this rate would lower revenues. This concept underlies the Laffer Curve, an element of supply-side economics. Since the 1970s, some "supply side" economists have contended that lowering marginal tax rates could stimulate economic growth to such a degree that tax revenues could rise, other factors being held constant. However, economic models and econometric analysis have found weak support for the "supply side" theory. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) summarized a variety of studies done by economists across the political spectrum that indicated tax cuts do not pay for themselves and increase deficits.[89] Studies by the CBO and the U.S. Treasury also indicated that tax cuts do not pay for themselves.[90][91][92][93] In 2003, 450 economists, including ten Nobel Prize laureate, signed the Economists' statement opposing the Bush tax cuts, sent to President Bush stating that "these tax cuts will worsen the long-term budget outlook... will reduce the capacity of the government to finance Social Security and Medicare benefits as well as investments in schools, health, infrastructure, and basic research... [and] generate further inequalities in after-tax income."[94] Economist Paul Krugman wrote in 2007: "Supply side doctrine, which claimed without evidence that tax cuts would pay for themselves, never got any traction in the world of professional economic research, even among conservatives."[95] Economist Nouriel Roubini wrote in October 2010 that the Republican Party was "trapped in a belief in voodoo economics, the economic equivalent of creationism" while the Democratic administration was unwilling to improve the tax system via a carbon tax or value-added tax.[96] Warren Buffett wrote in 2003: "When you listen to tax-cut rhetoric, remember that giving one class of taxpayer a 'break' requires -- now or down the line -- that an equivalent burden be imposed on other parties. In other words, if I get a break, someone else pays. Government can't deliver a free lunch to the country as a whole."[97] Former Comptroller General of the United States David Walker stated during January 2009: "You can't have guns, butter and tax cuts. The numbers just don't add up."[98] Income tax revenues generally rose to new peaks in nominal dollar terms each year from 1970 to 2000 as the economy grew, with the exception of 1983, following the recession of 1981-1982. However, after peaking in 2000, income tax revenues did not regain this peak again until 2006. After a plateau in 2007 and 2008, revenues fell markedly in 2009 and 2010 due to a financial crisis and recession. Income tax revenues in 2010 remained below their 2000 peak. Relative to GDP, income tax revenues declined during most of the 1980's (from 9.0% GDP in 1980 to 8.3% GDP in 1989), rose during most of the 1990's (from 8.1% GDP in 1990 to 9.6% GDP in 1999) then declined in the 2000's (from 10.2% GDP in 2000 to 6.5% GDP in 2009).[99] The extent to which economic activity and tax policy interact to drive these trends is debated by experts. While marginal income tax rates were lowered in the early 1980's, dollar revenue increased throughout the period, although revenue relative to GDP declined. Marginal tax rates were raised during the 1990's, and both revenue dollars and revenue relative to GDP increased. Marginal rates were lowered again in the early 2000's, and both revenue and revenue relative to GDP generally declined.

  33. we may not win alot of games this year(im thinking 3-5 range).... but i know 2 things for sure i can look forward ...... 1. An improved Defense under Coach Mac 2. Lance Dunbar getting atleast 40 touches a game... could be his year I would have been concerned if we hadnt retained Canales, but he knows the players, and will have no problem knowing how to put Dunbar in the best situations.... Could be a huge year for Dunbar... we all have seen what he can do ....

  34. I agree and I am a Leach fan, and long term you are correct. But Leach would have been a hell of a media ride and he would have sold out the stadium for a year or two. Yes as soon as Leach had success he would have been gone. Mac, I think he is here for the long run and probably is a better all around coach.

  35. I still feel the same way about the guy that I felt several months ago. "He's a clown. And he's not that great a recruiter, either. He doesn't care about defense or special teams. His teams are undisciplined, and he has a tendency to lose his locker room frequently, which means his teams usually drop 1 or 2 games they should win easily. Frankly, I think he was only marginally more successful than Dykes, which his record shows. But, he slings the thing all over the field, and the 59-48 scores look impressive."

  36. Those who say they don't want Leach are out of their mind. I love the Coach Mac hire but would take on Leach any day. I want to win and honestly, I feel more confident Leach would bring that than Coach Mac. That said, I agree, Leach wouldn't come here for what we're paying. Period. It was never an option. Lets all buy an extra set of season tickets and maybe things will change.

  41. Good for A&M! Maybe you should support them as you seem to have more positive things to say about A&M than you do UNT. I am sure they would love all your positiveness. That's one. Do you really want me to post on here the multitude of Alumni Associations that are headed by non-grads of the colleges they represent...AND, are you aware that there ARE UNT grads on the payroll at the UNT Alumni Assoc. just like A&M that you seem so excited about. Just another small fact you seem to ignore. You will also note that the Executive Staff of the A&M Alumni Association is six in number (if you even posted all of them) and it says they serve the further management team at the A&M Alumni Assoc. In case you were not aware, the entire staff at the UNT Alumni Assoc. is six in number (and I do not believe all of those are full-time staffers). You think there might be a small difference in the support between A&M and UNT for its Alumni Association? I have never heard a grad of A&M knock his school they way some here like to do. That does make a difference as well. Still no response to my offer of a beer and some actual factual conversation, but keep being positive Silver! By the way...in case you haven't noticed the current president of UNT is not a UNT grad! WOW...that must mean that UNT believes that no UNT grad is capable of being a college president or that the board of regents just didn't want to give a UNT grad the opportunity. Amazing logic you have there Silver...in your world I guess no UNT grad need apply for the job as president???? Oh, the director of the UNT Foundation is not a UNT grad either...no one capable there either, Silver? What about that head football and basketball coach...gee not a UNT grad...I guess none are capable and should apply????? How about all those non-UNT grad professors and heads of departments we have running all over UNT? I guess that means no one with a PhD from UNT is capable of running a dept. or being a professor? Let's not even get into all the development and advancement office staff that are non-UNT grads. Darn, I guess they just eliminated everyone who applied that was a UNT grad. As it is apparent that you really don't want to know the real facts of the matter (as it is easier to just continue to spew your negativity about all things that are UNT) I am going to bow out of this thread. It is just too frustrating and I have much more positive things to do in support of UNT, the Alumni Association and the Mean Green in general. Beer offer still stands, but I won't be responding on board any more about this topic. Try, as hard as it may be, to have a good day! GO MEAN GREEN!

This is great stuff as it signals the "official" start of the new season for this Mean green fan. can't get going soon enough. Really appreciate all the AD folks are doing to provide opportunities for Mean green fans to get together, have some fun and gear up for the new stadium opening and the new season. Great job folks. 44. WOW! Just WOW! Where to start? First, why would the executive director or any paid staffer of the Alumni Association care to get involved in a dialogue on the board. Silly. You have seen where that gets RV, right? But, oh, Silver, I see you continue to be one to never to let anything like actual information and knowledge here and there get in the way of a flamable post or to keep one from pointing the finger at someone else for something someone thinks has been done wrong or poorly. It is well known that I am now on the board of the Alumni Association and have been associated with the Denton Chapter of the Alumni Association for many years. It's not like no one from the Association has been actively trying to drum up support. You want a dialogue on here? Funny...there is not much chance of a proper and calm dialogue on here, but I am happy to meet over a beer and have a real face-to-face chat about the Alumni Association if you care to do so. Like lots of things that get posted here, and lots of the blame that gets tossed around by folks who are more than happy to "let someone else do it" and just sit back and take pot shots, the facts are often lost in the fray. Not crediting you, of course, for all that, but to throw the Alumni Association under the bus as the place for the "blame" regarding what you perceive to be a lack of support for traditions, is simply ill-informed and mean-spirited. And, of course you are correct, no need for an AD if one doesn't have a good cheer or a great pre-game routine for the fans. That's, of course, the only reason for an AD and a full athletic department department in the first place, right? I don't even think you believe that deep down in that grumpy ole heart of yours. Have any idea about the history of the Alumni Association at UNT and the support it has received from the university and its alums through the years? How many people do you think work in the Alumni Association offices compared to like sized universities? What's the budget? How many members does it have compared to like sized universities? What programs and traditions does it support and has it continued to support year after year? Take me up on the offer for a beer (or two or three...it might take longer than one) and I'll provide what info I can for you about what YOUR alumni Association is doing. I assume you are not a member since if you were you would be receiving regular communications from the Association regarding everything it is up to these days. Plus, in the several years that i have been giving my time to the Association, I have never seen you at any of our sponsored events. Sometimes being more informed is just a matter of being involved.....even a little. Like a lot of things going on at UNT across the board today, lots of improvements have been made. It's just too bad that so many people seem to refuse to see it or acknowledge the progress being made. I've tried to PM you, but seems your box is full or the PM function is turned off for you. However, you do seem to have one tradition down pat...that of seeming to only find the negatives you perceive in everything that is UNT.

  45. Well, as typical of most posts on here, what started as a thread on the new uniforms has taken on a totally different meaning. Here are my thoughts: 1. Our uniforms will be fine. Will everyone like them? No, it isn't possible, but outside of a couple of years in the 90's, our uniforms have always looked fine. Sure, there are some I liked better than others, but other than DD's black uniforms and the clipart eagle during the 90's and the daffy eagle with FFR's blue and copper, I have never really hated our uniforms. 2. We have a number of traditions, cannon, "Fly Like an Eagle," Model A, bonfire, lighting of the Admin. Bldg, but I agree with RV that a lot of this falls on us and administrations of the past. Nothing has ever been done to foster these traditions and build new ones until recently. Whatever happened to that group that is supposed to build spirit on campus? I think they were called Talons. The new traditions, are, well new and typically someone complains they were stolen from another school. I love the Mean Green walk, tailgating, etc... and agree that we need a good unified chant to build atmosphere. I think the new stadium will take care of some of that. Fouts was just too spread out.
