Totally Unsubstantiated Rumor

It might actually be a better thing for UNT if this is true.

It's almost definitely better. Without the merger, C-USA has to add at least one team to the west, even if it doesn't add in the east. And if you look at the geographic distribution of C-USA West without Houston and SMU, they just about have to add UNT to fill the gaping hole between UTEP, Rice, and Tulsa.

if they do not merge, will UTEP stay in CUSA or move to MWC? both conferences will need to add teams, as 8 is not enough.if they do, then CUSA is down to 7 schools. however, i am afraid that with all the presidents meeting in Dallas monday that the 16 school merger is a go.

If this has already been decided then someone should inform the sixteen college presidents that are coming to Los Colinas this weekend to save their money. Not that it can't happen but why is it the member schools don't know about it?

Would it be better for us? If we are excluded from the merged conference then that would be an easy answer. But, if we are included, that would mean that the expected revenue would more than exceed the associated costs and the prestige would help recruiting.

There is also the matter of how it is to be structured. If only football (and possibly basketball) will have interdivisional play the travel costs wouldn't be that bad. It could almost be like having separate conferences.

Although both conferences have been stripped of their best teams, the opportunity for more 'Boise types' to emerge will happen.
