Having the Daily's endorsement in anything athletic is the kiss of death, and usually is not good for the athletic program.

As I recall in 1972 the NT Daily was really strong on the idea of our dropping football; guess there have been some years when we thought we actually had...but that was yesterday....and yesterday's gone. Now that some of you 'boomers have that tune (with lyrics in blue) of that old Chad & Jeremy 60's song entrenched in your mind.......enjoy. :rolleyes:

...and the issue was brought to a vote by the student body.....and it barely failed. THIS (not just the 1-10 record) was the atmosphere/culture that Hayden Fry walked into when he was hired.

In many ways Fry was UNT's last grasp and hope of keeping college football in Denton and he spoiled it in a most grandiose way for those on campus who did not want football and who really believed post-Rod Rust that they would get their way.
