Smu Banner Ads On Meangreensports.com

If you are seeing that ad you probably have a SMU or SMU-related cookie on your computer that you got when you went to one of the SMU athletic sites or message boards. You can clear your cookies and/or stop going to the SMU site(s) and you'll probably stop seeing the ad. It's no big deal. It's how the Internet stays free (mostly). It's not like every person that goes to meangreensports.com is seeing that ad.

I think that is the case. I updated the UNT site about fifty times and never got an SMU ad.

I doubt very many people actually saw it, but it's still funny as hell that it was there and that it got some feathers ruffled.

Think of it this way: UNT is indirectly making money off of SMU, for which the Ponies are getting an absolutely worthless ad placement. After all, how many visitors to meangreensports.com are going to buy SMU tickets? If anyone should be mad, it's SMU. They're paying for that wasted ad all weekend.

If I'm in charge of the ads for SMU, I'm calling the ad agency to complain about their ads showing up in places where they are unlikely to generate any sales just one weekend before the start of the season.

Bingo!!! Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner. I'm not going to go around spreading that news because I make a living on people NOT routinely clearing their cookies but, if you're really that sick of seeing the SMU banner ad, what keith recommended is the way to ensure you won't see it again.

It's debatable whether internet ads work. Other than the SMU ad, can any recall what other companies have put an ad in that spot (referred to as a skyscraper ad)?

Well its hard to prove any ad is responsible for any specific sale, except in the internet but that is over-rated because a person clicking on a Nike ad may have already been influenced by thousands of other ads before clicking that one.

But they are the lifeblood of free internet content whether they work or not.
