After watching this kid play the last couple of years, I think we've got a good one. He's cut in the same mold as Zach Thomas who was largely overlooked because he didn't fit the prototypical size that colleges look for. Here's a good feature from one of the local sites that gives you an idea of what people who know him think and includes a good video.

He's going to be a great fit here. There's a lot to be said for having a player that already knows the defense coming in. He will help immediately on the special teams and at some point I would think be the starting middle linebacker. Great kid and an excellent addition to the team. 3 more local players to keep an eye on - Receiver Marcus King Euless Trinity, Off. Tackle Spencer Rogers Hebron and Receiver Evan Walker Coll. Heritage. All 3 of these players are being recruited and I know 2 of them will be visiting this weekend.

Guy from Permian had this to say about him:

I just wanted to post one more time reguarding my thoughts about Justin. First I qualify things in my own mind about only what I see against Permian. I have no other gauge to go by so others may view this for whatever its worth to them. Justin was not all that SLC s defense was about but Permian had a very good offense. Balanced, recievers and backs who made up last years regional 400 meter winning track team. The qb Tate Smith broke a lot of Permians passing records so they were not easy pickins. Justin may have equals in speed or quickness across the state but I saw no one direct the D as he did SLCs, on that day. In other words SMART. A uncanny knowledge for what Permian was going to do. Other than us being close in the first half the main thing I remember was his barking at and moving people around on every play. I was just impressed. Whatever he pursues in life he will succeed.

Gotta like that.

Thanks for posting that. I wasn't aware of his diabetes problem, it sounds fairly serious--I wonder if that might have scared some schools away? Anyway, he sounds like a great kid with character, and if he can combine that with great play, he will contribute greatly to North Texas football over the next four years.

I took a look at this Spencer Rogers fellow on rivals and he is a pretty big guy. It has interest from Lamo and SMU
