RV: Dodge was a good hire based on who we could hire

Rick Villarreal keeps talking about perceptions on the day someone was hired, as if that matters five years later when the results are in.

It's like leaving the homecoming game before kickoff and telling people later how good we did.

I missed something - who is Scott Sidway? Is this the NT daily reporter?

Yes. He was first to break the news of McCarney's firing that night.

I guess you can justify anything if you look at what everyone else thought of the hire initially. That's where this logic seems to be going.  Everyone else thought it was a good hire initially so - how can you blame me? That's not the way it works.  You're the guy responsible here based on the final results, not initial impressions.

It's like leaving after the homecoming game ends and you lose 66-7 to an FCS opponent, but then RV says not to complain about the game because the tailgating atmosphere was awesome.

So was this a 2 hour interview shuck and jive for the purpose of RV defending his employment history?

Seriously?

Or was there another reason for the interview?

FIFY.

Based upon Scott's word, he'll be unpacking a lot from that interview.

Good. Fly can criticize all he wants, but this is a direct biproduct of a bunch of fans finally being fed up to their rooftops with losing. RV either is completely untouchable or is starting to spin a little out of control.

Dodge himself may have been a decent name at the time, but what he needed was an AD that knew the type of staff that needed to be around a coach coming from HS.  No way an AD that knows what he is doing would have let him bring his HS assistants with him, but our AD just looked the other way.

Look at Briles in Houston.  The AD there had to axe his S&C coach that he tried to bring with him from HS.  He also made sure the coordinators he brought had college experience.  Briles was a little shaky at first as I recall, but because of the experience he had around him he was able to recover.
