Mike Ekeler, an excitable sort, often prefaces his football stories with phrases such as "Think about this" and "This is the greatest story of all time." In January, the 48-year-old native of David City was named special teams coordinator at North Texas. His Mean Green players soon will learn about Ekeler's storytelling prowess, if they haven't already. Think about this one: During the spring of 2010, when Ekeler coached Nebraska's linebackers, he recalls the Husker defense plodding through a terrible Friday practice. So, Ekeler had a message for his linebackers before a scrimmage the next morning. Not an official marathon, mind you. In this case, Ekeler had an NU football staff member drop him off on Interstate 80 about 27 miles from Memorial Stadium. It was 90 degrees. The good news: The wind was at his back. The bad news: It was all of 90 degrees. He made it to the 21-mile mark, but not the full 27. We'll get to what happened in a second. Read the rest of the story here: https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/sipple/steven-m-sipple-the-story-of-mike-ekelers-aborted-27-mile-run-on-i-80/article_01d10c2f-8fd4-5bd3-8e00-56f72aa57ea7.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter5 points

Should the Redskins change their name? Yes. It's ridiculous that they've kept it for this long.3 points

I think the “insecure old white dudes” are pointing out how you can always find something to be offended by if you choose to do so.3 points

I don’t really give a rats ass now... I was just making an observation.... And most of the “outrage” is fake anyway being that it’s the usual folks being “outraged”2 points

Lol. Not only are we likely going to need the “paycheck” from the Aggies this year, but if we happened to buy out of the game, we’d likely have to pay a huge amount that we’ll never be able to afford.2 points

Cowboys- Um cows are bad. They fart and produce gas that damages the ozone. It's also offensive to Vegans. Boys is so misogynous. I think they should change their name to the Organic People. That way no one is offended.2 points

Wow, another person telling us how smart they are. I prefer to get my information from friends and work associates who live in and around Chicago that I have been discussing with them for years, but hey what do they know compared to a genius like you.2 points

All of them first round NFL picks? Defensive line all day long. Dominate the line of scrimmage and you'll win championships.2 points

Still a Billion dollar company. As mentioned above they are still reporting the details of Chicago, but you and others don't seem to care as much about the victims week after week in Chicago. Guess it doesn't fit your personal narrative.2 points

May God continue to bless the USA. God of our weary years,God of our silent tears,Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;Thou who has by Thy mightLed us into the light,Keep us forever in the path, we pray.Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;Shadowed beneath Thy hand,May we forever stand,True to our God,True to our native land. you’d probably insist Emmitt could only take 3/5ths of the pots he won, so I’d rather find another game anyway.1 point

Seriously, they could go with "The Washington Hogs" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hogs_(American_football) Or not so seriously, "The Hogettes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogettes1 point

I wouldn’t say I am, or have been “outraged” at it, but I’m not a Native American. Optics are squarely on this topic now though. It’s a good time to reflect/think about it. So again, try someone else’s shoes on in this instance. How do you think you would feel about it?1 point

Height is hurting him. Listed at 6'1" could be a hair under, Big Schools rarely pull the trigger on anything under 6'2 they think their reach is less and are thus easier to block for bigger OL. I never understood that logic because in football the low man wins, so why do I want a 6'4" guy...give me the 6'1" or 6'2" guy who is already 2/3 inches lower than the OL across from him. ok rant over.1 point

You can be outraged all you like. So, when did your outrage begin? Last month?1 point

I don’t think you have to have to be left or right to agree that “red skins” is kind of shocking. And it’s more shocking today.... The question is....do a large portion of Native Americans even care?1 point
-
I use to travel a lot to to Gallup, NM which is the middle of the Navajo Nation. Many native Americans were wearing Redskin gear and jackets but they also wore a lot of Cowboy gear as well. I can understand changing the name. I was thinking maybe the Washington Barbers or the Washington Congress has a nice ring to it.1 point

The fact that we still have a team called “The Redskins” is amazing. The NFL would fire someone photographed 30 years ago in “black face” but “red skins” is ok Their hypocrisy on this is equally amazing...1 point

Well, at least there would be a First Lady I could get "behind".1 point

I don't know if Red Potato Skins is really a good choice for a mascot. The University of Denver tried something similar years ago with a stylized Baked Potato and it wasn't very popular.1 point

Bottoming out means reaching the lowest point....hence it'll start rising again. How is that so hard to understand? I fully expected 250K dead. Just not sure when or where the bottom will be before we go back up. Been waiting for awhile now - I thought it was gonna be around 6-8 hundred daily deaths. The lower it gets before we go back up, hopefully implies the lower the peak will be when it does in fact go back up.1 point
-
As I have said numerous times, I do expect the deaths to rise again. But every day that the trend is delayed makes me hopeful that we're not gonna get a tsunami. The rolling death rate rose on the 2nd and I thought that might indeed be the start of the upward trend that is inevitable. Today brought that number down again, so once more the data for this week is more or less downward (four days decreasing, two increasing). It seems close to bottoming out obviously and we'll get the rise back in deaths, but when exactly that will be or how bad it's going to get I am not gonna pretend to guess. I'm still surprised it has yet to happen. The infection seven day rolling average has increased every day since June 10th, which is more than enough time for the anticipated uptick in deaths to start to show up. Seven day rolling averages for death count: 6/27 - 594 6/28 - 596 6/29 - 595 6/30 - 581 7/1 - 560 7/2 - 564 7/3 - 5581 point

I don't know. Seems like a Schrodinger's cat situation. If it's available, but you don't use it and it's not available and you don't use it.. it's really the same outcome. Just because someone lifted the box and showed you it's not available it all of a sudden changes something? You're still not using it. But we can agree to disagree. I think it's really selfish to assume that costs go down because your aren't at the University in person. If anything it costs more - since they are incurring all these new costs to provide online lessons, grading, training, servers, capacity and all that good stuff. Education is a bit of a black box. You can't start picking and choosing what you think you should pay for.. just like our football won't be around without the athletic fee. Maybe all the students should get a break on that for that last year and this next one - them we can really starve this beast to death.1 point

You know Javion knows this. He’s already blatantly said, “I’m getting drafted from North Texas”. Outplaying Cunningham will put that plan into overdrive.1 point

Surprised they're not changing their logo to a potato and keep their name Redskins.1 point

I have a game with my officers about once a quarter and buy in is always $5 (we’re public servants so we have to be cautious with money). Maybe, if this COVID business slows, I’ll have some folks over for a watching party and some cards.1 point

Change Dallas' team the "Cowboys"? Where does that leave my childhood hero, the Lone Ranger? Did he mistreat Tonto all those years? Who knew? Edit: Missed my medication. Meant Lone Ranger1 point

I'm just saying the infections haven't matched the deaths in awhile (at the beginning the curves were similar). There was a long while where the deaths were coming down and the infections really weren't. For instance there was a secondary spike in cases in late April that wasn't matched in deaths in May. Really the cases more or less plateaued starting in mid May, but the deaths did not plateau starting a couple of weeks later (as one would expect). So using that standard the cases and deaths not necessarily going to correlate in the same way they did in March and April when they did in fact correlate very closely curve wise.1 point

I've never once said there were no deaths. It's kinda funny to me that I was banging the drum on the killer this turned out to be months ago and now people think I'm downplaying it.1 point

If you had an entire ol or ether dl of NFL draft quality, you would dominate not only CUSA but all G5's and a lot of p5 programs. It would become down to whether you like defense or offense. Littrell's teams have been much better offensively than defensely, so it an easy answer: go for the defensive line.1 point

When I was working as a foster/adoptive parent trainer for the state, the "powers that be" decided that all trainers needed to attend "de-escalation" so that it could be taught to foster/adoptive parents. Management choose MHMR to train us, and after we successfully completed the training, we then set about training our colleagues first. BUT, in setting up this training we also included "MANAGEMENT" in the training. We got a commitment that two levels of management would "actively attend". They had to earn their certificate just like the front line staff. I think this should be the case with all police training. If all police are required to attend "de-escalation training" then so should management. If a city wants to create an oversite board, then attending training with police should be mandatory for board membership. And they should earn their certificate. "Cultural sensitivity" training should be called "Multi-Cultural competency" training. And the training should reflect the updated name.1 point
