  2. It might seem like the wheels are falling off. But be patient. I think fans will be happy come wends. This staff has killed it the week before NSD the last few years. This year will be no different. Just Hang in there. I will see yall next week

  3. Nether recruit NT has lost are likely to be missed. Both left because of connections to other school's coaching staffs. Both are going to conference mates with IMO a lot less to offer. UTSA is way down in facilities. The state of Florida has a lot going for it, and FAU has had a lot of success; but still little support. It is up to the NT coaching staff to just find better prospects. It also opens up slots for potential transfers. UTSA and FAU are reaping the benefits of a coaching change. If I were NT, I would look at the commits of these two schools and see if if there are any that NT might covet committed by the previous staff. UTSA would be particularly vulnerable, but there are probably few on their list that NT would be interested in.

  4. Saw it on Instagram a while back and was going to see if they did a story on it. As of now they haven’t so thought I should share. Wish him the best of luck! Will always remember his game winners against Army and LA Tech GMG!

  5. Dayton edged Drake 78-47, so their ranking looks safe.

  6. Hiring briles means we are serious about winning and would be the biggest assistant get in our over 100 years of football

  8. Or maybe it’s really hard to recruit in a pool of 115+ FBS rosters?

  9. Questionable view IMO. Texas doesn't produce enough high school talent to make twelve in-state teams winners plus at the same time exporting a large portion of the top talent to the national power teams. Not producing enough linemen because what. Texas teams play with only skill players? Linemen have always been at a premium because of the size required. There are in comparison many more players that fit the usual dimensions of QB, RB, WR, and DB, LB's. Finding big players is not the challenge, but finding big players that are quick enough to play college ball are.

  10. I dislike losing commits as much as everyone else, but these last two have pretty rational explanations, don’t they?

  11. Now, for sure. Not looking forward to us having to face that hurdle. Good news is how well we have recruited the Houston area. That has to keep happening, especially now

  12. Well, we lost this one to UTSA. Not one of our higher ranked recruits, but one that still shows a lot of potential. Best of luck to him in San Antonio. It's a little further drive but still an ideal situation if he already has a brother playing there and his family can watch both play.

  13. His HS coach is the brother of new NutsaCK coach Traylor. F em.

  14. So we have a bunch of people who bitched to get rid of the OC and DC and now bitching because we have not replaced them quickly enough and the same people who would bitch that they did not like the replacements

  15. What about the cultures and recruiting methods of Lane Kiffin, Major Applewhite, and Willie Taggart?

  16. He might not have taken any actual action, but being in that situation, turning blind eyes and letting it perpetuate is not a good look. I think others have explained the anti-Briles details enough on this board. It was a few months ago, and I don’t want to dig it up. This would be an entirely different convo if Baby Briles was the one that exposed the situation and rat on his dad. But he didn’t. And I would be skeptical if someone insisted that he didn’t know what was going on.

  17. I am not sure how baby Briles served any punishment. Seems he has been pretty employed since.

  18. I understand your thought process, but at some point people have to forgive. They both have served their punishment and if there is no forgiveness in this world then a lot of us would not be where we are today. Just my opinion. I would be okay with the hire. Baylor is long behind us. To be honest, I think the Briles were just the scapegoats in a system that was corrupt from the top down. Again, just my opinion.

  19. To make this claim you'd have to show me a decline in all Texas teams overall records over the last 20ish years because that should show the impact of the spread offense. Houston, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech are looking better now than they were pre-2000. UNT, Rice, SMU, UTEP, and Texas have all stayed about the same. A&M is probably the one school I'd say has gotten worse over that time frame because they had some good years pre-Big 12. UTSA and Texas State are still new so I won't include them since they wouldn't have history to show any movement. I went and looked at their historical records because I was honestly curious if you were onto something, but since 9/10 teams showed improvement or little to no change I think it's fair to say we should look at other factors besides this one.

  21. I think Keuhne has way more potential than Martin. I mean I watched both film from Martin and Keuhne, and I just think Keuhne would be a better starter in the long run

  23. Take it from a recent graduate.. most of the students that actually go to the games don’t give a damn about any baggage a coach may bring. Wins cure all.

  24. I know this will be a very unpopular opinion, but so be ii...in my ever so humble opinion Bassey was in no way ready for the pros. The times I saw him play...including tournament games against the Mean Green, he showed to be a good player, but hardly dominate. I just never saw the "lottery pick", "best player in CUSA", "dominate player", etc. Did he have the potential to improve and be that player? Perhaps so, but no way, my opinion, was he NBA ready. He would be yet another guy who was overrated by himself and others and who ended up in Europe, Asia, or South America to play a few years and disappear off everyone's radar. This injury really sucks for hi. If he was a "potential lottery pick" why did he not purchase insurance against such an injury when he decided to come back to college for another year. Who was advising this kid? Or, did he listen to advisors (his Dad probably)? Don't know. Anyway, I do wish him the very best in his recovery. Sorry we won't see him play against the Mean Green this year. I would have loved to see if he had improved any from the times I saw him play. God sped in your recovery young man.

  27. I’m just being an ass. However, we are going to have a hard time recruiting East Texas in the future. Traylor will be able to pull kids because he is from there, and has a big network.

  33. Well, with his degree, I hope he eventually gets to OCS so he can lead Soldiers. I think he would make an excellent officer. He is a team first guy and as a retired Senior NCO, I can tell you that what Soldiers value most are leaders who care about the team and will take care of their Soldiers. He strikes me as that type.

  38. This will be our biggest game of the year. Dayton is just big and can shoot very well. Obi Toppin is by far the best player. A 6-9 forward that can score, and get boards. I can't wait! Also game is on ESPN+

  39. Why are we trying so hard to get him back? I say let him go to UCF or FSU, and let us either develop Aune or Bean or get a good trasnfer (Not like Alec Morris)

  42. I’m not sure I follow. The kids today grew up in a different world than I did. The kids that went to school when I did likely wouldn’t care what an OC did or didn’t do 3 jobs ago. And I don’t see how any particular thing could be important to every single one of them short of the university shutting down.

  43. I don’t think the ones that watch football would care as long as we win. The only students that would throw a fit would be the ones that have never stepped foot in Apogee Stadium. The ones that wanted to block the athletics fee, those types.

  44. I know Starkel was never committed to us. He only committed to the Aggies. We were just an also ran. I wasn’t bashing the guy. I was just pointing out that he had the chance to come play close to home, perhaps dominate CUSA and instead he has had a difficult stretch in the SEC and I sarcastically said I wish the same on Renfro.

  45. Guys this is just the way recruiting goes. But as of last night we are still after him. We are going against FSU and UCF.. not UTSA so you cant really blame the kid. Also he has baby Briles in his ear. Briles is a legend in stephenville still. Hang tight on this one guys. Exciting next 8 days... also for those on twitter stop tweeting at the kid for de committing. It doesn't help our chances for him to re commit.

  46. In typical UNT fashion, we’ll beat this hire into the ground with humor (I’m guilty of this already), but get our asses handed to us on the field within 2 years.

  47. It worked out great until McCarney and Chico ran out of Todd Dodge-coached quarterbacks. McCarney’s downfall was meddling in the quarterback situation. If you recall, our defense was still damn good at the start of the 2014 season. It wasn’t until the dismal offense wore them down that their play started to fade. They ended the college careers of David Ash and June Jones in the first two weeks of the season. I think if Mac/Chico had done a better job with the offense, we’d have had a string of bowl wins. Defense wins championships, just ask every national champ of the playoff era. There is a reason that the highly revered (and I like him too) Mike Leach has never won an outright division or conference championship in his 18 years as a head coach. Now don’t get me wrong the defense can’t do it without an average to above average offense. But even the best offense won’t win you jack without a good to great defense.
