They're gonna recruit the HELL out of 1988 Dallas Carter High School! UAB has passed us by!5 points

See how a 5-8 "bowl" team is perceived?? SEE???!!! Even by lowly UAB fans. They are very confident and need to be knocked down to reality. I don't think they are aware of how difficult this little comeback of theirs is going to be moving forward. Like a said, this is a must win Saturday.5 points

Know what I've come to hate more than just about anything during the Littrell era? 3rd Downs. Offensive, Defensive, doesn't matter. 3rd down has proven extremely frustrating over the past season+.5 points

Reminded me of K-State '12 and Georgia in '13. Mean Green can play straight up with the big dogs, just needs better bounces here and there.4 points

If you haven't heard the latest about what one of our tennis ladies just recently did you gotta read this. Hat tip to the M & G board. http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/09/18/notebook-last-minute-invite-leads-tourney-win-kononova Rick3 points

Rod Young now starting at Nose. Knew that was just going to be a matter of time. He's going to be a serious force when he gets to the outside once Bryce returns. It's nice because Sid Moore is playing so well, so we don't have to worry about being thin out there. Just hold down the fort DL! The cavalry is coming.3 points

You know what I did notice on their board.......NOBODY was criticizing the hell out of players, coaches, the University, Administration, the AD and AD Department.... They talked about winning, why we can't/shouldn't beat them, what they need to do to be better in the future....but absolutely NO BASHING..... We could certainly learn a lot from the UAB faithful... #GOMEANGREEN!!!!3 points

this more than anything else. it's so mentally deflating on both sides of the ball to do good work on first and second and then piss it away on third. Iowa converted on 61% of their third downs...and 80% of their fourth downs. UNT converted 0% on either. SMU converted 50% of their third downs...and 100% of their fourth downs. UNT converted a combined 39% on third and fourth hell...get those ratios to 50% on either side and I'll be relatively happy and can live with some aggressive penalties. I realize that's still a decent opponents conversion rate, but I don't want to go getting too good on third down defensively...means we'll see more punt returns. those make me too nervous.3 points

We have depth there. However, in light of the depth, your concern is valid in that leaving Fine in the whole game regardless of the score is dangerous to Fine's physical well being.3 points

Week 3 was a tough matchup for the Mean Green, and I think a lot of us came away rather impressed with the effort. Now, it's time to kick-off conference play, and lucky-for-us, we draw the feel-good-story Blazers of UAB! After 2 different weeks of extreme challenges for our defense, it will be nice to draw a squad that doesn't have an incredible <fill-in-the-blank player/unit>. They'll be very well coached, but they'll be overmatched by the Mean Green this week. There is 2 weeks worth of frustration built up for our guys. If they can keep that extra motivation under control and stay focused, they should come out and immediately impose their will against UAB. If they're overly-amped, look for the costly mistakes/penalties to continue to pile up, and the game will be sloppy & closer than it should be. Offensively, I look for Wilson to get rolling again, and for Mason to continue working on stretching the field with Guyton. Should be a pretty big day offensively. Defensively, I expect a shaky UAB OL to have a tough time with UNT's defensive front 7 with all the blitzes/stunts/uncertainty about where pressure is coming from. Should be a field day for Ejiya again. Not saying I expect this to be a blowout because UAB will score some... because they'll likely get some 3rd down conversions offensively while we shoot ourselves in the foot on 3rd down offensively. But it should be apparent throughout the game which team is superior. UNT: 38 UAB: 242 points

Good: Iowa game reminds me a lot of Florida game last year, but with a much better offense Despite lopsided loss, overall this was one of Littrell's best games Shanbour looked really solid, backup QB will see a lot of action Linebackers, a big question mark, played very well and are proving to be a plus unit Pass defense was substantially improved Defensive line played very well for most of the game Overall defense got gassed in the second half, still gave up few big plays DL Young had lb number of tackles, super game Mohammad is an unexpected force Great run by Wilson Fine continues to grow, one tough player Nine receivers had receptions Best offensive pass blocking in recent memory Bad: Iowa completely controlled game in second half Lack of defensive depth was evidence NT offense can't score if they are not on the field As a P5 program, Iowa was just much deeper Another loss in a guarantee game Ugly: Penalties, this game could have been a lot closer Many penalties were of the stupid variety NT discipline has to improve Punting, NT should forget about the rugby kicks2 points

"We're excited to have coach McCarney and the 2013 team here... to get their rings." Huh? Anyone else heard this?2 points

When the quarter started down by 3 points = A chance to win the game Later in the 4th Quarter down by 10 points = A chance to win the game again, you don't seem to understand the wording of a "chance" to win the game, and "close" to winning the game. As the 4th quarter winded down our "chances" became less and less, but down 3 points going into the 4th quarter by any metric known to man, is a giving yourself a "chance" to win the game.2 points

True, they could have but they didn't. There isn't a special column on the stat sheet to tell everyone that a player was pulled because he was injured, or the coach wanted to rest him, or whatever. You, as an individual, can discount every single stat that exists for whatever reason but the fact still stands ... there has not been a single opposing rusher that has run for more than 100 yards.2 points

long time eating drives are bad for anyone. Iowa made a conscious and concerted effort to keep the ball. a big 10 school played as stereotypical big 10 football as possible in the second half because they both knew they could and that they had to. Iowa has 12, mostly generic white dude OLs all tipping the scales at 280 or better...and all but 3 of them are from Iowa, in case anyone thought we were losing recruiting battles...they just kept cycling in zone-blocking fatties and wore down our smaller line2 points

it's easier when you're drawing a lot of modern punters from soccer backgrounds...also...when have you ever seen a blocked rugby-style punt? that's actually the whole point of the utilization of that technique...it may not be the prettiest, but it's going to have top-spin and it's going to give the punter time and space in almost all circumstances.2 points

Coaching to give his team a chance to get the ball back and try and score. I imagine he could care less about the score in that situation.2 points

yeah, i give the defense 5 stars for this game, they are the reason we were in it... and yes, they wore down in the second half, but that's because our offense was hardly able to sustain a drive in the second half (maybe three first downs?) so they were constantly on the field, facing Iowa's fresh 3rd and 4th RB... I'm a little disappointed we didnt take some more risks offensively in the second half with maybe a trick play or going for it on fourth down.2 points

There isn't a game on our schedule we can't win, period. I'm just not seeing Southern Miss as a loss. Sure, they will be coming off of a bye week, but what have they done? *UTSA and *La Tech will be the two toughest games, but outside of those two, we should win the rest. * There is not any reason that we can't win these games.2 points

First off, we're fans of our schools on both sides, so of course we think we're going to win. That's sports fanatic 101. What you guys don't, can't, understand is our faith in Bill Clark. When we hired the previous HC, Garrick McGee, we thought we'd hired Bobby Petrino's OC. In reality, we got a self promoter who made sure that groups of guys were in the right places at practice, held a clipboard, and had the special teams guys standing on the sideline panel with the eleven dots on it. He talked a good game and recruited reasonably well, but when it came to game planning and coaching the kids up, he could not walk the walk. When Petrino got a job, he ran back to him and he left behind our program in absolute disarray. He was here for two years and drove the program into a ditch. Under him we won three games in 2012 and two in 2013, and the 2013 season was the most the most miserable football experience of my life. There were games when we had 8-12k people in that 70k seat tomb. It was beyond painful and well into torture and misery, and the worst of it was that we *chose* to show up and endure it out of loyalty to our team. Clark was hired very late. He wasn't able to do much recruiting other than bringing some guys that he'd been after for Jacksonville State. He took those kids and what we had and went 6-6 in his first year. He showed us that he could flat coach. He gave us hope. Without Clark staying, UAB football would be dead, there is no doubt in my mind. Instead we have the first dedicated facility ever built for UAB football, a $22.5 million dollar state of the art facility. He's the real deal. So yes, we're going to be optimistic and to pull for our team. Pundits ranked us at the bottom of the league because they had no idea what we have. Vegas had our over/under for wins at 2.5 and we have two already. We're going to prove them wrong. We're going to win some games. We're going to surprise some people. We might even surprise you. As someone on our board pointed out, y'all are "Super confident for a team that is 11-29 since 2014. We have 8 wins since 2014 and didn't play football for 2 years." Yes, I know, new coach, and you feel about yours as we do about ours. That's fair. We've got our problems. We've had difficulty getting off the field on third down, although that improved last week. Special teams have not been very special. The biggest problem I see overall is that we simply don't have quality depth in our first year back. The kids are getting tired in the second half, and I'm not sure that won't be a factor all season. Any injury is magnified because of that as well. As to UTEP, what they've shown so far this season is pretty miserable. I'm looking forward to a good game. You seem to be good fans, and not nearly as obnoxious as some in the league are. Best of luck to you guys - except when you play us. You know how it is.1 point

I find it rather intriguing that given the nature of their departures, both Dickey and McCarney are coming back to Denton this season. Edit: My favorite big ass ring and concrete stands quote seems to be scrubbed from the interwebs. Can't find it anywhere.1 point

This is definitely a better team at this point than last year. Put English in the mix and we could have a very strong D! The O line pass protection against Iowa is very encouraging! Fine is slinging it! 8-41 point

I think 7-5 is our absolute ceiling. I put 6-6 though as it seems more realistic. Losses to SMU, Iowa, UTSA, LaTech, Army, Southern Miss1 point
