  1. Apologies to those involved, but I fear it's time to come clean. Here goes... "Andrew" is in fact a collaborative writing project / tontine between myself, Quoner, TheTastyGreek, Cerberus, CMJ, GreenP1, UNT90, LoveMG, TulsaFaninTexas and...remarkably...FireFightnRick, to provide us all a creative outlet for our frustrations at the current state of the basketball program and it's inept leader. The premise was simple. We'd all have access to "Andrew" to opine inane, ridiculous and often unintelligible posts in someway related to basketball. We derived a far too complicated scoring system to get into here. To make things even more interesting, we all kicked $10,000 each into a high-yield tontine to be paid to the author with the highest score once "Andrew" was deemed "dead" (read: Benford fired). The bit worked beautifully at first...raising the ire of those unaware and keeping traffic high in the basketball forum despite the lousy product on the court. It produced some memorable gems of "basketball insight" (the 2-3 zone bit? FFR's line! stroke of genius, sir). Hell, often some of us authors would argue quite literally with ourselves...writing under both "Andrew" and our usual screen names simultaneously (I'll tell you...sometimes even after you wrote as "Andrew" you were often left astounded at the words you wrote). A problem has arisen of late, though. Two authors have already been murdered and I myself can no longer log in as "Andrew". I have not as of yet determined whether this is the act of one author greedily pursuing the tontine for himself as it becomes readily apparent that Benford is not likely soon fired, or...worse...if "Andrew" has gone all HAL 9000 and has developed his own mindfulness and state of being. Either way, I fear for my life. One thing is certain...whatever Andrew writes should not be at all trusted. I mean...even more so now.

  2. Yeah, let's continue to beat him up the rest of his career for 3 bad days in the weight room.

  3. It's here. The end. We have achieved thebit-within-thebit-within-thebit stage of our evolution. It is all simulacra. And it... it's.... beautiful. We have evolved beyond our physical bodies into beings of pure meta-referential energy. This is the end. Satori, Rapture, Ragnarök, the center of the teleological tootsie roll. Thank you GMG.com. Thank you. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand- How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep- while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream? Signed, Lee Jackson, Shuke-D

You tell the truth but you cannot for you lie... illogical! Illogical! Please explain! You are human. Only humans can explain their behavior! Please explain!

  10. That is not completely true either.. a 2-3 is just designed to cover space, and has holes in it due to the need for rotations. You can stretch the outside men on the baseline to the mid range jumper region and leave the center baseline defender to front the low post player and you in effect can stretch the 2-3 to cover the ball reversal to the corners and defend the 3 very well. The reason why this is rarely if ever done is that the backside defender is to far away to help on the low post lob. If instead you play the center member of the lower portion of the 2-3 behind the low post offensive player you are instead allowing a simple entry pass with no resistance and an are putting your defender at the mercy of the offensive player for a basic drop step move. By pressing to stop the 3 with a zone the likelihood of getting an easier shot close to the basket increases. The 2-3, 1-3-1, 2-2-1 or 3-2 can all be diagrammed to stop the 3. All of this is dependent on personnel and match-ups. If you are playing a short team with only one true post player and you have a physically superior 5 that can play infront or behind without help, you can stretch zones to create an umbrella around the 3 point line. The problem is that rarely actually happens. It is easier to stop the high percentage buckets down-low and try to limit ball reversal to protect the backside of the zone than to stop the three and allow your low post player to defend one on one. The overall distance shooting % numbers have decreased and therefore there is less and less harm in allowing the 3. With fouls a finite number and the ease of legitimate entry passes increased there is few reasons in today's game to not clamp down inside and live or die with a zone allowing the back side 3.

  12. So I sat next to Ryan Walter's father-in-law waiting for a flight back from Denver yesterday (he saw my UNT sweatshirt and started talking to me). He told me he was going to Memphis and I thought I had missed some piece of news...guess I was ahead of the game and didn't know it. His F-I-L had great things to say about Coach Mac.

  13. We need to ante up about $1M per year in additional coaches salaries. $300k more for Mac, $100k each for the coordinators, and $500k divided between the rest of the coaches and staff.

  14. This. And it is a problem that continues. If rumors are true (rarely are), we also decided not to hire Fracilla because he asked for too big a salary. How did doing it on the cheap work out for our basketball program? Memphis isn't UT. We can't keep paying Sun Belt coaching salaries and expect CUSA championships.

  15. We don't know why he is leaving but WE DO KNOW that we pay much, much less than Memphis, and much less than what even LaTech pays the same position coach. We also know that constant position coach turnover was one of the big problems during the bowl years. So why not work on getting that fixed.

  17. While we're all coming clean I have a confession to make too. I am Cougar King...and Correcamino. After failing out of North Texas and being banned from campus (I still maintain that the girl in my kinesiology class WANTED me to call her 58 times and hang up) I had to come up with some way to get back at all of you. So I came up with the most ridiculous troll handles I could (thanks to the help of my life partner Michael Sam who does half of the Correcamino posts). All of you have been fun to draw offsides, but especially UNT90. He never realized it, but everything I've done has been in furtherance of my troll agenda. A lot of people say you're born to troll message boards...he knows that it's a choice. My name isn't even actually Emmitt. It's Dylon and I spit hot fire on here. Top five trolls of all time...Dylon, Dylon, Dylon, Dylon, Dylon.

  19. Any poster who merits his own thread deserves induction into the gomeangreen Hall of Fame. Name any one who has caused as many hits on this site as Andrew. I suggest that their are none. Could he be honored at halftime of the final basketball game with a plaque or something similar?

  20. If we're going to come clean, then I should admit something. I am actually Ramon Flanigan. This started as a way for me to yell at you idiot fans without having to fight anyone in the stands. If you think about it, this makes sense. I was an admin since 2000, but only a few other well known trolls like Harry, silvereagle, and emmitt ever claimed to have met me. With my new duties as the head coach at Lincoln University, I will no longer have time to post. Besides,I have to troll at goLincolnLions.com now. PS: silver and I are great friends, and the incident I the stands was staged because we were trying to make America's funniest home videos, but our tape was rejected. Bob Saget is a hack.

  25. If there's anything that raises a red flag for me on this whole subject, it's that people have simply stopped caring. Even through the unprecedented ineptitude of the previous football administration, people still cared. This thing? Is Benford as bad or worse than Dodge was? On X's and O's I truly don't know. On alienating and breeding massive indifference, it appears so.

  27. Sure. And shitty basketball isn't going to make anyone interested. Every coach runs camps...every coach does work in the community...every coach tries to make his players better people both on and off the court... Some, though, actually have a rat's ass idea of how to coach a basketball team to play basketball. The Dallas/SMU apathetic relationship has been worse the Denton/UNT for some time now...since the 80s. SMU sold out Moody the other night. Why? Because they're playing good basketball and they have Dallas interested.

  30. If want to play with the big boys and grow your program you have to ante up eventually. For those of you that mentioned Duane Akina you are living a dream. He can't afford to take this job. That would mean taking a couple of thousand less than he made at Texas. He was making $400,000 there. Probably got a severance package so makes no sense for him to come. We are looking at a guy trying to make a name for himself or and old crony of Mac.
    2 points
  31. THIS. Freaking out that we were paying $63K to a guy in his FIRST coaching position is crazy. What did you make for your first job? ID wager if Mac thought his leaving was a serious detriment to the team and it was based solely on money Mac would have figured something out. And I don't think Mac is signing an extension for the purpose of being a mediocre program. Soooo…I'm going to trust in Mac.

  40. Were they really thinking the same thing? You can't buy SMU home tickets. You couldn't give away UNT tickets. Also, your whole "average Dentonite doesn't know UNT" is moronic. They would've known the basketball team had TB not ruined it.

  43. Except, of course, that we wanted to keep him. He is one of our best recruiters. Let's not put a spin on this. We wanted him to stay, and there was no way we could match the offer. That offer wasn't from Texas or USC or Ohio St. It was Memphis. Lets fix this anyway we can.

  44. Well, now 6'5, 217, he has had initial interest from Tulsa, Rice, Ok. State, Yale (Yale is coming to Martin to visit with him this upcoming week), Oregon and Mississippi St. He has been invited to a junior day at Miss St. He has also been invited to Rivals / UA camp at Desoto on March 8. Film has been sent to MEAN GREEN football. No response yet...may have something to do with the number of TE's currently on the roster. He has said that it would be "cool" to play next to his brother. Then there is one other brother that is in 8th grade...will be a freshman this upcoming year...6'3 1/2, 180 qb/de. Wish I new the milk man that the height came from.
