  1. You're not gonna make attendance figures stay up with one marquee game. You make them go up by attending conference games. That's why our average is good this year, not the LSU game.

  2. And Brady for throwing the ball too high... And Brady for intentional grounding in the endzone... And Belicheck for challenging a call and losing a timeout late in the fouth... And The Patriots D for waiting 2 plays to let NY score to get the ball back...

  3. A new arena? We may have some issues, but the Super Pit isn't one of them.

  4. People who think the Super Pit is a crappy venue don't get out much. There are tons of D1 programs that play in absolute high school level dumps. If there are better facilities at some programs, that's great, but I'd certainly put the pit in the top quartile of places I've visited.

  5. Good God. Hey, hey guess what.. In the grand scheme of things, none of this matters. It's a whimsical campaign parodying the current race for the White House which also serves as a means to show Tony how much the school and student body care for him - it's freaking transient kitsch, not the bloody Cuban Missile Crisis. God.

  6. Well, I guess you were just kidding in your private message about sparing the board this debate. I am not sure we have anything to discuss, you have labeled elements of my posts as "crap" and now "ridiculous" and now on numerous times have accused me of making negative comments about NT's recruits. However, you continue to argue a point no one is debating: the rating services are often wrong. I have stated many times, ratings are about odds not absolutes. To attempt to make this even clearer, the possibility is greater that a higher rated player will contribute more than a lesser recruited athlete. This seems a foreign concept to you, but on the surface I doubt other than you, anyone disagrees. Did I not, in the very post you are responding to state save me the many examples of rating service misses, yet that seems to be your total response? About the class of 2008, how did you rate it? I don't see any answer just more fodder for you to point out that rival's missed on a number of recruits. You are the one who stated that you can't tell how good a recruiting class is until after they have played a number of years. I guess you meant, you can't tell how an individual player does until he plays; limiting recruiting discussion to history is not exactly super stimulating. As a complete aside, if you don't think Riley Dodge contributed substantially to this program, than we have another issue. Back to me insulting all those recruits and their families for stating something perfectly obvious to most. " NT got it handed to them in recruiting", there said it again, bring out the censures. I will go over this again, for your benefit because I imagine you are a lot more offended than most players or parents. NT lost most of recruiting battles when a player had other FB options. I did not say that the NT recruits were inferior or that NT or anybody else were not happy to have them sign. You are the one apparently reading that into "NT got it handed to them in recruiting". I than elaborated that although NT had not won many head to head recruiting battles, that I hope and believe that McCarney is a very good evaluator of talent and many of these players would be great contributors to the program and even cited TCU and Boise has being good example of programs that have had that kind of success which you seems to echo above. I wonder about posters like you, who espouse basically that all recruiting talk is nonsense because we will not know until years down the road, yet feel free to hammer those that express any negative opinion based on the same lack of clairvoyance.

  7. Yet I bet Frazier would never see the floor at NT or anywhere else as a freshman. What in the world are you saying? Frazier has about the same national ranking as Mitchell as a freshman, and I guess he would start at NT in his first game. Would he have the impact of Mitchell, probably not; but he is an excellent HS player who just about has his pick of universities to attend. As an aside I think Nash would do just fine at NT too.

  10. UTA's new joint cost as much as Apogee. I'll take Apogee and suffer with the apparent crap hole that is the super pit, thanks. I swear this place has such caviar tastes on a mac and cheese budget.

  11. You're kidding, right? Eli made MULTIPLE beautiful throws, had no turnovers and did what was necessary to win. It's laughable to say Wes Welker is owed any thanks. I can't think of a single great player who didn't have some mistake by his opponent during the course of a game...just plain silly.

  12. Agree... Some of our Vito-bashers have way too much time on their hands to let one beat writer get their undies in such a wad. Hey, he is "one" beat reporter with the D/RC now a subsidiary of the Belo Corp (of Dallas Morning News fame). Apogee Stadium? As much as I love this college football stadium and as much as I have praised the famous (Gil Brandt, Chuck Neinas, ESPN/UNT alum Dave Barnett, Mean Joe Greene, etc) who have praised our Taj Mahal of a football stadium, I too, never thought Apogee Stadium alone would be our miracle drug. Fact is, Apogee Stadium had to happen very soon or we would have really been down Shit River w/o a paddle. It's here now but those 7 losing seasons still put a cloud over her and I predicted a year before Apogee's debut that we would not sell out that first game. Folks, if we don't have the machinery on campus to even give free tickets away such as was exhibited for the MUTS game then what made anyone think they would get out there and do what was necessary to sellout the first game? In fact, take the UH fans out of our stadium's debut game and then you see just how hard those on campus of whom this is part of their job description worked last Summer in selling tickets to the masses of Denton, Denton County & beyond. This program is never going to be one of those "just add water and watch it grow" kind of programs. It will always have to be cultivated daily for it to expand or grow. In fact, every home game in any kind of year (winning or losing) must be promoted as if some jobs depended on it. GMG! Monday PM Addendum: I'm with you GrayEagle on the Denton Chamber of Commerce repeating their "all summer" effort and because of their focussed efforts brought out a record-setting crowd for a Baylor game at Fouts back in the day. In fact, had the UNT athletic dept. merely gone back to their think tank and simply come up with the question at their round table meeting of "what promotion helped us put the most fans into Fouts Field," maybe they would have gone back to the Denton C of C well one more time and had it been for the Apogee Stadium debut, we would have more than likely had SRO for the Unversity of Houston game.

  17. I was checking my twitter account and saw story that said "Tony Mitchell suspended indefinitely." I was about ready to jump out my office window until I click on story and saw it was the Tony Mitchell from Alabama.

  18. ...doesn't mean anything anymore," Huffman said http://latimesblogs....ay-for-cal.html Not just for North Texas, but there just seemed to have been more commitment flipping even nationally. I'm sure there have been recruiting cycles thats had all this before, but it doesn't seem like to this extent for quite a few years. Just sayin'... GMG!

  20. Officially they average 4.5K last year. I haven't checked this year. SMU was less than 2K last year. Once in the Big 12, they should get a 1K to 2K boost just from fans of other schools (for conference games). I went to KU v. TCU a few years ago and half the non-student crowd was KU fans. Here is link for 2011 official attendance: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/bdf2030046a3609298bddcc110a6426c/2011_NCAA_mens_basketball_attendance.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&CACHEID=bdf2030046a3609298bddcc110a6426c Area schools- North Texas 3,552 SMU 1,970 TCU 4,285 UTA 811 Other Texas Schools UT 13,669 A&M 9,000 Tech 8,513 Baylor 6,994 Rice 1,838 Texas St. 2,084 UTSA 1,560 UTEP 8,959 Sam Houston 1,376

  21. Forgot about that game. I agree that we shouldn't play these games. Although from an RPI standpoint they are better than crappy Div 1 team (games against non-Div 1 don't count and games against bad teams only hurt our RPI).

  23. Nah, he retired. He still is around at a lot of the games though. And I know, I live in Dallas and listen to The Ticket all the time, despite being a Houston sports nut. Gordon and the morning guys are hilarious.

  30. We need to step up the schedule next year, especially if TM sticks around. Would love for us to play overseas this summer, it has done wonders for teams who have done this. Replace the non DI school to open the season with a swac school Replace the swac schools we normally have with teams from the mvc , ovc Do 2 for 1 deals If we have to with BCS schools. Capitalize on next year at all cost Bring in depaul & retire Kenny Lyons jersey in a nice Ceremony Also get into the USVI or puerto Rico tournaments because I've already been given the okay by the wife for a family vacation!

  32. I'm not saying Vito is a all american beat reporter , but he sure does take a lot of heat for things that go wrong with UNT. It seems to me it's a lot of misplaced anger. UNT has 99 problems and I don't think Vito is 1.

  34. We control our own destiny here, but it won't be easy ending the season with two road games. We only have to finish in the top five to get a bye to Sunday. Getting the #3 will keep us on the other side of the bracket away from MTSU.

  40. New York Giants tonight...Mean Green in 2012? This is the kind of football I love. Great special teams, too, with the Giant punter putting 3 of 4 inside the 20. We've already got a good punter for a couple more seasons. I'm excited about 2012, our players, and our coaches. Watching the Giants, I'm hoping we can win many ballgames this way. Although...taking a 59-0 lead on Middle Tennessee was fun, too! It's just a game tonight is more likely to be the norm than that. Also, with two Super Bowl rings under his belt, are there still going to be doubters of Eli Manning? Probably. Crazy, yes; but, probably.

  44. Maybe because he was basically blackballed by the AD & UNT when he was justifiably critical. Was given very little to no access for telling the truth. He has to get info somehow. It sounds like kissing ass , but I think it's him trying to save his own job. Just my opinion .
