SMU fans having a cow.

Here's the most telling thing of all. They are so determined to convince themselves, and each other, that we are a horrible program that it is easier to believe they are just THAT bad than to believe we might actually have contributed to their beating.

When you are willing to suspend all logic in order to look down on someone you can't then turn around and pretend you "don't care" about them. This is a rivalry whether either side wants to admit it or not. We want to kick their asses above all others and they want to hold on to their illusions of being our superiors more than they can stand.

I almost felt sorry for SMU yesterday...they put a lot of money and reputation into their football team and have yet to realize that when the chips are down they are really no better than us. We're both just trying to grab a niche in the college athletic fabric.

Amen, brother. Since their football program was resurrected, SMU has been in the same boat we're in. We're both mid-majors (do people still use that term?) who are on the outside looking in at the big-money conferences. They have been in slightly better conferences than UNT, but how much is that distinction worth? Neither program is content with our fate.
