Vandals open first camp under Petrino (w/Video)

“I know what we’re teaching. We’re teaching it hard,” said coach Paul Petrino after a high-powered opening to fall camp on the SprinTurf Field by the Kibbie Dome. “We’ve been saying it since the day we got here. We’re trying to make the players believe we’re going to be what we call grinders – guys that work hard every day; get up and go to work and improve every single day.”
That mentality leads to the next step: Showtime.
“We define showtime as preparation, practice and performance,” Petrino added. “Those are probably the two biggest words we keep going over and over and over.”
With day one of fall camp in the books, Petrino was headed for a long night of film to evaluate what the drills really looked like.
“It’s never as bad or never as good when you go in and watch it on tape,” Petrino said. “You just look at it one play at a time. You are looking for assignment and alignment and get off on every play. We’re going to be great technically sound football players and understand the fundamentals, which allows us to play the game fast.”

Well it appears to be official, Idaho will start hometown hero redshirt freshman QB Chad Chalich against North Texas.

Chad Chalich Bio

That's an impressive Bio.

I'm always inclined to think: "Yeah, the best QB in Idaho is likely as good as the 100th-best QB in Texas", but all of those extra recognitions make me think he's legit.

I'll say it once more:

The Idaho game will be close for 1 to 2 quarters but our team will get its land legs and rout this team in quarters 3 and 4. Moral of Post to MG Fans & Alums: Don't panic in Quarters 1 and 2. :)

GMG!

PS I think we will do well at most all Apogee-based games this Fall, but I do worry about how quickly this team can learn to win on the road.

GMG ! !

Insignificant Addendum: Today, we have had some rain, cloud cover and its still just 95 degrees here in Parker County when it was forecasted to hit 104.

Heat or no heat, he's starting his first game as a D1 qb on the road 2000 miles from home. We have an experienced secondary, so let's get a pass rush on this kid and force some interceptions.

And if/when he decides to use his legs to beat that pass rush, I don't think he's going to enjoy being on the business end of Zach Orr &/or Derek Akunne.

Never played outside of the pleasant Idaho sky. It's a good thing you know about Gatorade,...Chad. How does playing in 120 degrees sound to you?

Rick

About the same as watching in 120 degrees? :(:) (I'm not 22, 32, 42 or 52 anymore, sports fans)!

I'm still trying to recover from that 104 degree temp at kick-off of our UNT/Baylor game at old Fouts Field last decade (and a game the Mean Green won over that Big 12 school, of course).

A.J., the UNT tickets guy assured me my season tickets would be in the shade so I guess I'll be fine.

GMG!

Unrelated: Anyone else notice in the Fort Worth Star Telegram how TCU has lost 3 or 4 starters due to "no interest in playing anymore" or to injuries? 4....3....2....1.....Froggie Poster response coming at'cha' soon.
