Victor Howell - DT or OL?

This kid shows up as an OL in most of the places I have looked, but the recruiting video I found shows him at DT, and looks pretty good.

He has some interest from big 12 schools, but only we have offered according to Rivals.

I noticed him listed as a DT on ESPN. Maybe I just missed it previously. Seems like a serviceable DT based on small sampling from video. The pickings are pretty slim at that position so far this year for us and unless someone falls in our lap, he may have to do for now.

Patience -- with schools loading up early there are going to be a fair amount of high level high school kids who were expecting to land at certain schools who are going to start falling through the cracks. There are also usually guys who have big senior years or make big showings in playoff runs. Their stock starts rising after many schools have already recruited to their position and don't have any spots.

I also think you will see some flips, which can be good and bad for us because teams losing players could come after guys we already have committed.

Still hoping we land Charkes Walker. He would fall into the catagory of late qualifier. Hopefully OU fills up and we get this kid.

Saw Kimball against SOC in week 10. Don't remember if Howell played at all but he certainly didn't play on defense. #55 in the video is Justin Manning, #1 defensive lineman in the state that committed to A&M. Another name for UNT to consider is SOC's McKendric McKenzie, DE/DT (6-3, 250) Kid is athletic enough to be a pretty good basketball player; similar to Booger Kennedy.

Others around the DISD:

Montrez Blackwell, 6-1, 280 - Dallas Madison

Chris Blair, 6-1, 280 - Dallas Madison

Cameron Pierson, 6-3, 290 - Dallas Roosevelt

Abe Perkins, 6-2, 275 - Dallas Wilmer Hutchins

Kevonne Pierce, 6-3, 275 Dallas Wilmer Hutchins

Draven Taylor, 6-2, 280 - Dallas Adamson

Jason Adams, 6-2 270 - Dallas Carter

Joshua Pitts, 6-2, 288 - Dallas Carter

Edward Victorian, 6-5, 305 - Dallas Kimball

Darnell Anderson, 6-2, 274 - Dallas North Dallas

Bryan Williams, 6-3, 290 - Dallas SOC

Samuel Tatum, 6-2, 275 - Dallas Conrad

Eddie Day, 6-2, 285 - Dallas Hillcrest

Jose Barjas, 6-2, 280 - Dallas Thomas Jefferson

Billy Joe Washington, 6-2, 255 - Dallas Lincoln

Donavan Salinas, 6-4, 270 - Dallas Samuell

Marcus Hernandez, 6-4, 290 - Dallas Spruce

Everado Enriquez, 6-2, 270 - Dallas Woodrow Wilson

Juan Torres, 6-3, 265 - Dallas Skyline

Deshaun Lawson, 6-3, 270 - Dallas Skyline

Kerrick Huggins, 6-4, 280 - Dallas Skyline

Are these "others" any good, or just big bodies?

Found this blurb from ESPN that discussed several Kimball players. There was a reference to Victor Howell.

DT Victor Howell: While Manning gets a lot of the ink, Howell has been a solid contributor to the defensive line, as well. At 6-2 and 280 pounds, Howell brings strength and a mean streak to the Knights’ defense. He had 54 tackles and three sacks and is getting looks from Baylor, TCU and North Texas.

I like the mean streak part. We need some nasty.

edit: It looks like the article I pulled this excerpt from was written in the spring of 2012, prior to Howell's senior season. Here's hoping that so much attention was focused on Manning that Howell flew under the radar.
