3/12 - Bracketology Update

...... Purdue. In Jacksonville. I really like this matchup. I think this is a game that we could win. They just lost their best player who was scoring 16 points per game. Without him, they only have 2 players scoring in double figures. They score 72 points per game, while we score 74. So there is going to be pressure for someone to step up and fill that void. They play tonight at 6:30 EST against Northwestern, a team that has already beaten them this year.

Thoughts????

RealTimeRPI update. Projecting vs Villanova in Jacksonville

I watched the Nova game yesterday, those guys are lights out from three and always seem to hang around in the tourney. I don't think it is the worst match up, but it certainly isn't the best.

I don't like the way we'd match up against Nova at all. That team is all quick guards. Of course any pairing with a 1-3 seed is gonna be really tough. The more winnable games(tho still not great odds) don't really start until the 4/13 matchups.

See I'm kinda the opposite, I see a bunch of Nova and I think we match-up well. They won't bully us inside, which is my biggest concern with high seed match-up. Reynolds and Fisher are great...but the rest of that team is rather pedestrian. I look at them as a shorter version of the Memphis squad we would've beat if Lionel Brown played his senior season.

Yesterday Jay Bilas did say that in order for upsets to happen and be maintained, like George Mason in 2006, it revolves around the big men rather than the common tournament belief that you go as far as your guards take you. I like our big men in this match up, but Nova is so fast and can score so quickly I'm not sure we can keep up. Our best hope against them would have to be getting to the line (which we do incredibly well) and slowing down the game (we have a tendency to get stagnent when this happens).

I need to watch more teams like the Purdues of the world to make up my mind about who we would give the most trouble.
