  1. Not trying to be a wet blanket or anything, but Jacob Holmen shouldn't play the 3. There were quite a few times last night where you could tell he was hesitant to go out to the perimeter and then when he charged hard to close out he got beat off the dribble. Playing the 3 forces him to the outside and he still has an itchy trigger finger with the ball in his hands and doesn't take advantage of his size on the offensive end (turn around fades against 6'2 kids etc.). While having 3 guys on the floor 6'7+ is advantageous I think Holmen would probably be best served being the first guy off the bench for Kedrick with Franklin taking is spot in the starting line up.
  2. Wells WAR over the last 4 years: 1.5, 1.5, 0.0, 4.0. Wells UZR over the last 4 years: 5.8, -21.8, -18.4, -7.0. Not what you want to see out of a guy who will eat $80+ mil over 4 years.
  3. Imma let you finish, but Kanye's new album was one of the greatest of all time. /shows self out
  4. This insane video is purportedly made by the alleged shooter.
  5. You would have to be on some heavy stuff to be able watch 41 Cavs games this year.
  6. I am much more partial to Pras' article earlier in the offseason. http://www.bbtia.com/home/2010/12/6/maximizing-assets.html
  7. Oh I forgot the part where I said that. I wasn't arguing that Beltre is a bad defensive 3rd baseman, just that Gold Gloves are stupid. I can haz UZR?
  8. Because this is worse than the Knicks punting 2 seasons to try to open up enough cap space for LeBron...?
  9. 5 years $115 MM with a 6th year option and easily attainable incentives. The Rangers were the highest bidder with a 7th year option went $161 MM.
  10. Now is when we get to see JD do his work. Grienke's ridiculous price is only going to get higher and the same goes for Matt Garza who is not an ace to begin with. 3 top of the rotation guys were traded last year (Lee, Haren, and Oswalt) so the worst thing to do is jump into a seller's market desperate to buy. If I were JD first and foremost I would go after Adrian Beltre whose bat and defense, along with Young's presumed move to 1B/DH, translates to about a WAR of 5 (or about what was expected out of one Clifton Phifer Lee). Then I would target some low risk, high variance guys along the lines of Brandon Webb. Finally I would offer trades for a solid guy in the middle of the rotation. Guys like Fausto Carmona, Annibal Sanchez, and Ryan Dempster could really bolster this rotation to weather the storm until a guys like Adam Wainwright or Josh Johnson could become available if their teams struggle. The main thing is the front office needs to keep their cool and not make a move for the sake of making a move like the Mavs have done in the past.
  11. This site uses generic sentence templates to put together an interesting stat based game recaps similar to what could be found on something like FanGraphs. I think I may use this, at least until it becomes self aware.
  12. The closer it gets to tip the less the line moves. A fluid line at the beginning of the week becomes much more rigid the hours prior to it being locked so it is hard to determine where exactly the money is going late. What I'm saying is that Vegas was using a big name school in Tech to draw money to the game by fooling less basketball knowledgable people into betting on a weak team and therefore nullifying any importance on the line having to do with who is or is not better. Sigh... That's what I'm arguing against.
  13. Manager of the Year is voted on prior to the playoffs. If there was a Get Your Players to Believe in You award I would give it to Wash, but Manager of the Year is a little much.
  14. Mike Canales is so great he is only way worse than Johnny Jones. Considering Johnny Jones is on a level equivalent to Jesus, this is a compliment.
  15. Ok its on. Someone get me a soapbox because logic like this is why CC Sabathia is going to win the Cy Young. Apparently there are a lot of people here who are under the impression that Vegas is some sort of "game forecaster" and that simply is not true. Vegas is a business. As a business it's goal is to make money. On Monday North Texas was 3 point dogs. Now the way to tell how money is coming into Vegas is by seeing how the line moves in the days approaching the game. All of a sudden the line became 2.5, then 2, and then finally closed at 1.5. Why did the line move? Well it could be because they were told to "suck a fat one" or its because people let their money do the talking and bet on North Texas. Now Vegas seeing that their plan to take money from people by putting the mighty Big XII Red Raiders up against the directional school from the Sunbelt with an interesting nickname was not going as expected dropped the line. Then they dropped it again. Finally they dared people to take Tech by saying all that the Raiders had to do was win by a measly bucket. Vegas isn't stupid, they want each side to have an equal amount of money on the line because if the same amount of money is wagered on each side they make a profit. The movement in the line says the people who got on early bet on North Texas
  16. Rushing the court when you beat a team that is worse than you is dumb.
  17. If George keeps passing like he has the last two games offensive production from the 4 position wont be a problem. My issue is when George leaves the game the 5 becomes a huge problem. Hopefully when Cam comes back he can be that guy.
  18. Games are won and lost at the line. UNT: 23-29 79.3% TT: 11-19 57.9% All hail the wise and sage-like Johnny Jones for making the players shoot so many FTs after practice.
  19. Quick Thoughts: 1) Wow. 2) Also Wow. 3) The production from the 4 position was something that would have made Ol' Trammy proud. Holmen played great. Hogans swatted 3 shots and was solid all night. Edwards got some key rebounds and filled up the stat sheet pretty well for the time he played. 4) We need George to play a lot of minutes against good teams. Hogans/Edwards/Holmen looked confused without George's foot up their ass. 5) JOSH F'N WHITE 6) Tristan was incredible in the 4th. His ability to get to the line allowed for Josh's heroics. 7) The Pit was absolutely amazing. I scoffed at the numbers some people were expecting for this prior to the game, but wow what a crowd. You think this will be all of those students last basketball game this year? Not a chance. The Pit Crew should be amazing for the rest of the year. 8) 2 down on the road to 30 I'll let Jay-Z take it from here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM1RChZk1EU
  20. Looking back there are some hilarious quotes from the year that was. I'll also go out on a limb and say that Ron Washington is gone by the end of May. I think the Rangers chances will come down to Feldman pitching like he did last year, the young pitchers continuing to improve, and Harden winning more games than Millwood did last year. If all 3 of those come together, then the Rangers can take the West outright. Feldman did what an ace does. Moves past speed bumps and keeps you in the game. Loved it. Not any loner after two whole games. We may have just seen the last of "The Rangers are in First Place" cheering for the season Time to put Francisco out on assignment. My grandma could get a double off of him right now. Agreed, but who do the Rangers make the closer? This is a team that will be somewhere around .500, but I am hoping for better. Sandwiching Vlad and NC17 between the blackholes of J-Ham and Crush is gonna be the death of this offense. I also fear the waving of Joaquin Arias. Starting to get unexcited about the season already. And it's only mid-April. Is it too early to "call the season" for the Rangers?????? The gods were very much on the Rangers side last year. I have a feeling that it will be completely different this year and completely blame Ron Washington's cocaine nose (or lungs, whichever the case may be) for this occurrence. the Rangers would give their left nut to be the Royals Time to start a fire Ron Washington thread? Time to start a fire Ron Washington thread. Crack head manager + self-interested owner + sale that can't get done = last place Smoak has already supplanted J-ham in the robot greggos lineup. Harden looks awesome! 3 game sweep by the Blue Jays. Yet another reason why I'm just not that into it this year. Don't look now, but they Halos have won 10 of the last 12 and are ready to overtake the little Rangers once again. I don't think I like the Cliff Lee deal. Unless Cliff Lee can clone himself when he gets here, the Rangers are nowhere near a world series birth, much less a championship. Also, since Colby has never been in playoff atmosphere (just like CJ), what makes you think they would be better than Hughes? I don't like it, but I think 2011 is the first year that the Rangers can have any reasonable expectation of getting to the series, unless they get white hot in the playoffs. EDIT: If Big Game keeps this up, maybe he should be in the top 3 instead of CJ. Don't count Harden out of this mix. He is a second half pitcher (lets all hope). Vlad Have my kids. And don't slump. Yeah...everyone needs 1-3, 6.10 ERA Don't we already have Rich Harden and Cliff Lee for that? Josh has broken ribs according to Evan Grant. We are now entering alert level S#%&^@ F^#@(&#! It's crap like this that makes me think they will go 0'fer in the playoffs because they seem to crumble against decent pitching. Sucks that we get the freaking Yankess again in the playoffs, if only to get a different opponent for the first time in the playoff history of this team. Their top 3 pitchers could be the #1 starter for most teams. There is no way this kid [Elvis] should be the lead off hitter of a playoff team. I am so glad the rangers are finally going to make the playoffs but they are going to get lulzwtfpwned in the first round. Swept by whoever they're playing. I love em but best believe I am betting against them every playoff game. But it really looks like that bitter end will be in the first round against the Yankees…AGAIN!
