Breakdown of 2015 signing class by position

Looks like running back by committee. Wish we could have found a 25 carry a game type RB. (That's also a threat to take it to the house on any carry) Jemison dances too much in the backfield and Wilson doesn't look like he can take the pounding. Maybe he will show up 10 pounds heavier in the fall.

He'll have over a year's worth of getting stronger by the time the season starts. Be ready to see a TON of Wilson.

After playing w Excel (and not-work-doing), here are some measurables. I'd put speed metrics in here too, but I gotta get some work done.

Position (count): Average height/weight

ATH (2): 6'2.5/210

DB (6): 6'0/182

DE (3): 6'3.3/251

DT (2): 6'3.5/285

LB (3): 6'2.3/217

OL (5): 6'5/300.6

QB (2): 6'3.5/240

TE (1): 6'3/235

WR (2): 6'3/192

Overall, good measureables. Gotta love the OL size.

I know some commented on the LB play last year, but was anyone else shocked by us going after three JUCO linebackers? The Dakota Smith signing seems especially odd.

Billy, any thoughts?

Hoping Bean is as-advertised. Otherwise, barring a major recruiting coup with Finney, we're probably going to struggle there next year.

It could be that our current line backers failed to impress the coaches. Fred Scott seemed to have trouble in pass coverage but I could be wrong on that. Dakota Smith could play some end in the nickle. This could just be a situation where you take quality players when you have the chance.

Totally agree with that approach but not signing Cain then doesn't make sense. Look at Smiths stats versus all out other signees.

GOMG2013 mentioned it, but Cosh must've come in and watched some film and not liked what he has here to work with at all. One thing that really stood out to me during Mccarney's presser was that Dakota Smith is going to be a SAM and Finney will be a MIKE. SAM was the position I felt we needed to address the most. Not only did we lose a first-team all-CUSA player in Akunne at SAM, but we haven't really recruited that position at all.

At SAM you want a guy who's built bigger and can be a good run defender in the box. We've almost exclusively recruited small linebackers in recent years. Marshall, Ellis, Minor, Garner, and Montgomery were all small guys who projected more as WILL backers. We desperately needed a SAM and Smith is apparently our guy. We're looking at him and Minor replacing Akunne, which I honestly am expecting a huge dropoff there.

Finney is smaller than Wallace, and maybe Scott, but we weren't good at MIKE last year, and it's obvious the coaches wanted another option. I could see Finney winning that job. Even at WILL, where we have signed a lot of candidates, it looked like Cosh wanted Cain because he didn't feel great in our options there. But we ran out of room. Either way, it goes back to ineffective past recruiting, just like all the positions we brought in JUCOs at. We have guys. We only lost 1 linebacker off last year's roster. But the quality of those guys is questionable enough to where they felt we needed to bring in JUCOs.
