  3. The game has changed a lot lately. The idea of a true Shaq-like Center just camped out on the block isn't happening anymore. I think @BillySee58 had a breakdown of minutes shared at the 5 last year between Zach, Abou, & Thomas Bell, who will play that role in a "small lineup" sometimes. Wright will definitely be playing that shot-blocking, rim-protecting role defensively though (he's #6 on UW's all-time blocks list). He pulled down 113 boards last year as well. I wouldn't expect a ton of minutes with both Wright & Ousmane on the floor at the same time, unless there's some kind of mismatch Coach McCasland is exploiting. Adding another big 5 who can't really stretch the floor would just add another cog to those minutes. And with the way today's game is played, that athletic wing man who can shoot is very necessary. Right now, we have Bell, and depending on situations, maybe Rubin in that role along with the 2 new Freshmen, Stone & Scott. And, like I said, depending on the lineups, you might have Rubin at more of a 2 (or even bringing the ball up the floor like a PG), while Bell might be playing more of a 4/5. The need for an experienced SF/Wing is much higher than a big center. But hey, if he's interested, I hope Coach McCasland kicks the tires!

  4. Not really necessary anymore with the addition of Wright and every minute he played (for 1 year) would dampen Abou's development. Need another wing who can play defense & hit from distance.

And with the spots being more limited than ever, schools have to be more judicious in giving them out. “Running second right now isn’t always the worst thing, because the school the kid probably wants to go to may not have room," one Power 5 coach said. "At this point we go from two to one.”

  9. He's going to be coaching Lofton from LATech and Jaden Ivey from Purdue, the stud who single-handedly kept the tourney game close. He'll also get to bounce ideas off of some awesome coaches: Jamie Dixon (TCU), Mike Boynton (OKSt), and Jerod Haase (Stanford). https://www.usab.com/mens/u19/roster.aspx

  11. I'm not sure I'd say that yet. Novil is a stud and the Murphy twins have tremendous upside and performed well as freshman. Tyreke and KD are solid LB's. John Davis, Upton Stout, and Gaddie have all shown promise in the DB room. Questionable? Maybe, but I like to think we have some solid pieces that will work well in the right environment

  15. Adaway has a real chance to be near (or at) the top of this list individually with a full & healthy 2021 season. It'll be interesting to see the rotation of guys this year with Adaway, Torrey, Johnson, and Jackson along with another season of improved OL development and play.

  18. I realize, that most of us know that Munoz and Ortiz are succesful on the PGA tour. However I tried to look up who else is currently out there trying to make a go of it. I Found quite a few from the last few years, but am sure I am missing more. Currently I count at least three alumni who have profiles on the PGA Latinoamerica tour, where Cazaubon is currently 27th on points, Gonzalo Rubio is 55th and Villasano also has a profile. For those who forgot, Cazaubon actually managed to qualify for the last Olympics. Doesn't look like he will be able to repeat this as too many Mexicans have gotten good recently and Ortiz appears to have one of the two spots locked up. Thomas Rosenmueller won the Pro golf tour in 2020 (Third European tier, based in Germany) by winning three tournaments. I think this will allow him to move up to the challenge tour (the second tier of European golf, roughly equivalent to the Korn Ferry tour). He made about 28K in the process. He is now 375th in the Official World golf ranking (OWGR) Kristof Ulnaers is apparently also playing on the Pro golf tour (where he finished 49th in the order of Merrit in 2020). Ian Snyman has also broken into the world golf rankings top 1000, by winning a tournament on the "big easy tour " (i think that is an African tour) earlier this year. Cory Churchman appears to be 2nd on this years NTPGA Players Tour Points List and has recently also played once on the Korn Ferry tour (I assume through Monday qualifying) Andrew Hudson was apparently playing on the PGA tour China in 2019, don't know what happened since. I am sure I missed a number.

  21. I haven’t heard any further accommodations. Everything so far has just been to the benefit of players already at D1 schools last year and to the detriment of players who were in high school last year. And to the detriment of the marginal players. But from what I have seen, teams are pretty much still operating with 85 or less scholarships even though they can go over. But essentially only one senior class went out the door between last season and the end of this upcoming season despite two freshman classes entering/set to enter. It’s an absolute mess and really screwing over the 2021 and 2022 high school class (worse for 2022). One thing that could help is finding a way to not count all the D1 transfers towards the 25 scholarship/class limit. If a team loses 15 to the portal and wants to replace by bringing in 15 from the portal (similar to what we just did), then you only have 10 spots for high schoolers in your class.

  22. Like I stated the offense was fine in the past but the defense was... 2020 North Texas Mean Green Fun Stats – 1st Quarter Scoring: Opponents 111 – North Texas 45 – Time of Possession: Opponents 34:23 – North Texas 25:38 – Points Per Game: Opponents 42.8 – North Texas 34.4 So we score but can the defense keep them out of the end zone? That is the question we can ask about Seth's future1

  30. DALLAS – Hope Trautwein of North Texas softball has been selected as a 2021 C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award honoree as announced by the league office Tuesday. Trautwein was an active leader in the UNT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during the 2020-21 academic year and was instrumental in the execution of several committee initiatives, including a partnership with UNT Political Science Professors for a student-athlete voter education session and establishing a student-athlete Unity pledge. The Pflugerville native graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in Fall of 2020 with a 3.807 cumulative GPA to earn magna cum laude honors and began her master's program in Spring 2021. Trautwein was a member of the President's List and Dean's List at UNT. The Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection pitched the first all-strikeout perfect game in NCAA Division I history at Arkansas-Pine Bluff April 11 and was named the NFCA Co-Pitcher of the Week for the performance. The First Team NFCA All-Region Selection posted single-season program records for ERA (1.46), strikeouts (235), opponent batting average (.172), strikeouts per seven innings (12.73) and saves (7).

  36. Colleges and universities contemplate moving down the athletics totem pole all the time. Division I athletics aren't for everybody, especially when you're not cashing multi-million TV checks each year. Heck, even Jim Delany, the longtime Big Ten commissioner, threatened to take his entire behemoth of a conference to Division III if players ever started getting paid. (We all know how that bluff ended.) But it's not everyday a successful Division I program considers dropping down to D3. Such was the case at Eastern Washington, where the school openly considered dropping down to Division II or III, or remaining a Division I institution -- but with no football program. The same Eastern Washington that's in the FCS playoffs almost every year, that played for the national championship as recently as 2018, and that won the FCS title in 2010. The same Eastern Washington that was the only program in 2020-21 to reach the FCS playoffs and March Madness -- and not only that, the Eagles beat mighty Kansas in the first round. That same EWU could've soon found itself in D2 or D3 but, after a 10-month back-and-forth, the Eastern Washington board has voted 8-1 to remain in FCS. That vote followed the recommendation of EWU president David May. read more: https://footballscoop.com/news/eastern-washington-remain-fcs-will-not-drop-football-division-iii

  41. With Munoz and Ortiz off this week, it may be a good moment to look at some of NTs other alumni again. First lets stay in the Americas, where -by my count- 3 NT alumni are teeing it up on the PGA Latinoamerica this week (third level of professional golf). That tour had many cancelled events because the VID is still strong in south America. Because of whether only half the players finished their 2nd round on friday. Rubio and Villasana will miss the cut, but Cazaubon is currently tied for 4th. Next lets go to Europe, and there is good news there on the second level of professional golf, the challenge tour. While Rosenmueller who plays regularly on that tour missed the cut. However Kristof Ulnaers is killing it on his first start there: leading the field by 4 shots after two rounds! Lets hope they don't pull a john Rahm on him). or those who wonder: that challenge tour tournament has a total purse of 200k Euros (240k$) He got that start after having so far a great season on the pro golf tour (third level,) where he finished in second last week and is currently 5th on the order of merit (which totals about 10k in winnings). Meanwhile Ian Snyman just keeps playing great on that Big easy tour in south Africa (third level I guess), and has made 4 top 20 results in a row and won a second one of those tournaments. Since that is a small tour I assume that is about 3k in winnings all together for him.

  42. The key should be the hiring of Phil Bennett. Out of all the available coaches out there, bringing back a guy three years removed from coaching (if I got that right?) to exorcise our defensive demons should be the litmus test - after all of the above, SL and co. hires Bennett…does the defense improve or do we still see the same not-so-mean green defensive efforts that costs games? Find success on defense and SL is a hero again, but if the defense provides the same results then what? Brought in a dinosaur to Coach and look what happened…? Really piss poor defensive effort last few years…get it right SL.

  43. 100% I don't see how he wins more than 4 games this year. Maybe 5 and that's a stretch. In year 6, he will have to have to have the coaching performance of his career this season to get back to a respectable record. I don't know why the lights would suddenly come on here in year 6 but I guess it's possible. If he wins 4-5 games and Wren lets him come back next year, then that's a bigger picture issue (one that will show that nothing has changed at NT) that will put the spot light squarely on our AD. Littrell will have 4 losing seasons here out of 6 and more than likely an overall losing conference record in the worst conference in football. I would say a safe bet would is he's gone after this year and best case for him, is an OC at a P5 next year.
