  1. I have faith that these games will take place and wish I could be there. Particulars: Both games on ESPN+ for those of us out of town. UAB: 19 - 6 overall; 11 - 5 in conference (8-1 out of conference) Notable wins: None that stand out. Wins in OOC were against Alcorn St, SE LA, Kennesaw St., Troy, Tuskegee, East Tennessee St, Southern and Rust. (Loss was to Chattanooga) Conference: Sweeps of So. Miss, Rice, MUTS and UTEP. Swept by La Tech. Splits with Charlotte, ODU and utsa. IF we play as we are capable, we should sweep the Blazers.

  2. Sure. Just don't get mad when a private business (however big or small) decides to make you wear a mask when you enter their premises. That's THEIR decision, not yours.

  3. Am I crazy for feeling like that's not a great recruiting tactic? Really rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Very happy that we're moving in a different direction this season with all our new hires.

  6. Y'all... this guy has only played in 3 games his entire career (3 seasons). 1 catch for 1 yard in an absolute blowout VS GATech. At some point, you have to stop looking at High School "stars", and start looking at production against peer institutions. If he comes here, he's got his work cut out for him because Shorter & Simpson are legit, and I think Loronzo Thompson is going to come back to the offensive side this season and tear it up.

  7. Here in Texas? If they were worried about upsetting their customer base, they would likely pander the other way, right? ...Just open everything all the way up? I bet a lot of places that decide to keep any mask mandates in-effect are playing it safe and truly attempting keep their employees and customers as safe as possible. I don't think the social media army is the driver.

  9. The Pit hosted first- and second-round games of the 1976 and 1980 NCAA Basketball Tournaments. In 1988, the Super Pit was the site of the men's Southland Conference Tournament, and North Texas rolled past McNeese State and Northeast Louisiana to capture the conference championship and its first invitation to the NCAA Tournament.

  11. He is well liked by the players. And he ideologies differ from the previous coach. I think alot of things that frustrated the fans with the past ST, will be a thing of the past (ie running kicks offs to the 15 yards line...when you could have fair caught the kick off and got it on the 25, roughing the punter penalties and drop punts to name a few). Coach P has had multiple offers to leave UNT since his arrival.. but he really likes UNT and the area. I say give him the shot. No one was jumping up and down about Perry or Biagi when they were hired. But both had success while here. Also it should be noted that ST would have been much better when Biagi was here if the DC at the time would have let him use more of his players on the defense 2 deep. At times Biagi last season he was using all third string and walk on players on KO. Side Note there is better odds of me becoming head coach than Perry rejoining the staff while Littrell is head coach.

  12. Make what effort? "Hey Tommy, I know I fired you before, and you've got the ST's gig at UTSA so it'd be a lateral move, and you & Traylor have every part of Texas East of Greenville locked-down recruiting-wise, and you'd likely love nothing more than sticking it to me every chance we meet... but Hey! Come on back! Have you seen the new Practice Facility? Go Mean Green!" Brother, it's a no-go. Just don't even consider Coach Perry. It ain't happening. There will be a laundry list of people applying for this job. Coach Perry won't be one of them, and that's OK. And if it's Petrilli, that's fine too.

We’ll all be pulling the rope the same direction and coming together to talk about different things. It’s been awesome.”

  16. What I find somewhat concerning is the statistic of somewhere around 20 to 30% first line health workers who are reticent about taking the vaccine. Not to mention about 30% of military personnel. Regarding the military. Don't they have to have a battery of several vaccines administered when they are about to be shipped overseas? I've never read that they have an option on that. Why are they given an option on the Covid?

  21. What's even more concerning is that the 1/3rd refusing it are the first t I be offered, meaning those in medical and high risk patients (I work in medical and that is an accurate number). So as we reach phase 2/2b and 3 people even more will opt against it. Its going to be a struggle to hit 50%

  22. North Texas Mean Green UNT basically played two different seasons last fall -- it went 2-3, dealt with more than a month's worth of postponements and cancellations because of COVID-19 related issues, then went 2-3 again. 2021 Projections Projected SP+ rank: 106th Projected record: 5-7 (4-4) Likely wins (2): Northwestern State (92% SP+ win probability), UTEP (83%) Relative tossups (6): at Louisiana Tech (55%), at FIU (52%), at Rice (42%), UTSA (42%), at Southern Miss (41%), Marshall (39%) Likely losses (4): UAB (34%), at SMU (19%), Liberty (17%), at Missouri (15%) Seth Littrell took defensive coordinator Phil Bennett out of mothballs -- he hadn't coached since 2017 -- in an attempt to save a crumbling defense. With six relative tossups on the schedule, any traction Bennett builds could flip a few games. https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/30975043/conference-usa-west-college-football-offseason-preview

  24. We can choose to bitch and complain about Passwaters hiring or we can choose to hope for his success, but you all have to know that the coaching profession is sometimes more about who you know than what you know. I do know this, SL and PB can neither afford to have him fail. PB will be heavily involved to help insure his success.

  27. Austin went on to say it takes a "special-breed cat" that goes the walk-on route because you have to love the sport. He then asked McHale what made him want to walk-on at Washington. "It was more like to see if I could do it," McHale, 49, added. "The second year, I got the hang of it. I feel like I did. I came to a crossroads where I'm like, what's the end goal? I was having a great time, but I really need to kind of focus on acting. And that's why I became one of the biggest movie stars in the history of Hollywood." Austin didn't dive into too much of the details of his college football history, but the WWE Hall of Famer played at the University of North Texas “It was a fun experience,” Austin said on The DA Show back in January. “I had dreams of being a pro football player but just couldn’t quite make the grade by a long-shot on that. I was a good player at the local or regional level. Beyond that, those guys had too much talent." Austin played linebacker and defensive end while at North Texas. He was a running back in high school.

  28. I believe is already in the building. Coach Petrilli should be hired asap. The dude brings the energy, knowledge everyday. The players love him. He truly loves UNT. I think this is a no brainer. Hire from with in. He learned from Biagi who I believe is the most underrated ST coach in the country. https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/chris-petrilli/534

  30. UTSA, IMO, is the one team I think is prime to get someone early. but I can't imagine them winning 2 or 3 games. Just not enough depth on paper to sustain the level of play needed.

  31. I expect the number of vaccinated to increase as the J&J vaccine rolls out. Many were waiting on this vaccine, in fact, I have a number of employees that visited their personal physician who advised them to wait on the single dose, more traditional vaccine.

  32. I know you are afraid but take a deep breath and think realistically about this thing. You’ll have the 8% vaccinated folks (plus more each day) and the 10% of Texans who already got the virus with some level of immunity. Places like HEB are still going to require masks regardless of the governor’s order for fear of boycott or upsetting the social media army. Also, every person is free to double mask or simply get their groceries and other goods curbside or delivered. Just because the governor is curtsying to his voters doesn’t mean we are headed back to Memorial Day last year again. Eventually people are going to have to make decisions about the level of protection and isolation they are comfortable with or we will be stuck in pandemic mode in perpetuity and I don’t think anyone wants that.

  33. If the vaccine works like I think it does, look for numbers to go down and some (even if small) amount of trust restored in science. Maybe these people will see the potential momentum and be more agreeable with vaccines? STOPPING THE SPREAD

  39. I was thinking we should just go out and find a well-qualified FCS Special Teams coach to come in and fill this role. But after checking out this thread and looking at Coach Petrilli's resume, I found this: "Petrilli was a volunteer on the staff the past two seasons, working with Special Teams Coordinator Marty Biagi.Petrilli previously served as the defensive backs and returners coach for Drake University (FCS) where he helped guide return specialist Terry Wallen and defensive back Caz Zyks to All-PFL honors. Wallen finished 2nd in the nation (FCS) in punt returns with an average of 14.8 and 1 TD." OK. I could rock with Coach Petrilli if he were the hire.

  41. With PB's 4-2-5 scheme, I think there will be improvement vs. the run with more size in the box. If we can have better gap control and let the LB's do their job of focusing on the run, improvement will happen. More 3rd and long passing downs, allowing PB to be aggressive with the pass rush. Gotta have those 3 and outs to flip the field and win.
