Dude, no. If you're talking about the access hatch next to the giant loading doors at the North ramp that is for cabling for broadcast trucks. When games are televised, the production company that produces the broadcast runs their own cabling between the cameras and mics out to their production and transmission truck, where the producers and editors cut the broadcast together live. Miles of cabling running to semi trailers which are powered by rental generators are a common sight at every broadcast college basketball and football game, NFL, NBA, MLB, awards show, etc. TV production crews use generators so they can have their own source of power in case something happens at the stadium, like say an earthquake during the World Series or half the power in the Superdome going out and other reasons including not having to pay the arena owner for using their electricity.

No problem...you no longer live in the area. But, Dot's Hop House is one great beer house...restaurant...bar in the Deep Ellum area of downtown Dallas. Owned by the super supportive UNT grads that also own Oak Street Deprafthouse and East Side Social Club in Dallas. The UNT Alumni Association along with Athletics held a pre-HOD Bowl event there the night before our recent HOD Bowl appearance. Dot's has a fantastic outside beer garden area as well. If ever back in the Dallas area you really should check it out. Food is great as well.

Absolutely. It without a doubt will continue to hurt recruiting. It is the first place a lot of our students go as well...not a good introduction, IMO. Hell, 7 years ago I walked in and thought it was a dump. It's built bizarrely where the steps are the actual structure of the facility, so I really don't think we would be able to renovate it and it be worthwhile. If we insist we need to keep it for the university, OK. Build our BB team a 6-8K arena with luxury boxes and, well, lighting.

Have you ever been to Allen Field House in Lawrence, Kansas? It is truly a barn with bleachers. I have seen rodeo arenas that have better facilities than that place. Doesn't seem to hold them back from recruiting top tier recruits.

Surely we're not making this decision based on the final 6 games. Well, we're not sure at this point so we are gonna let this play out and watch how things develop as we approach WKU and Marshall. We will make a decision at that point and go from there. So hard to stomach from this end, no matter how sensible they might think this wait is. My first big red flag of the Baker term.

So...heard several things from Dr Smatresk Thursday in a meeting I attended, then found out a bit more from another executive level employee in another meeting today... First...no baseball for awhile. The multi-purpose indoor sports facility WILL be constructed prior to adding baseball. The new track and soccer facility is about to break ground. Heard the soccer practice facility will be in the infield of the track. Seems Fouts will be torn down and will serve a few years as a ground level parking lot. Until the state legislature frees up new building construction funds, it will remain a parking lot. In addition, a new residence hall that will include a dining facility and a welcome center is going up promptly. The Super Pit will not be remodeled, but a new basketball facility is in the planning stages...rumored to be a 7-8,000 seat facility. I do not know the fate of the Super Pit, but would assume it stays as a multipurpose facility. Of course, we all know the rehab football locker rooms is currently underway and that the women's BB locker room rehab has been completed. And, the tennis courts have been resurfaced. In addition, some rehab work at the Athletics Center has been completed. Baseball is on the radar, but there is apparently much to do before baseball. This is only what I can recall. I was shocked at the emphasis facilities improvements and additions are taking under President Smatresk. He said we would strive to be Tier One in athletics as well as academics....seems he meant it.

Note the tweet posted...under the scherdule...it says "come check us out". Spring practices are open to the public. If you have a group coming you might want to contact Scotty as the schedule indicates.

So you are saying he was unrated, then UNT offered, and now he is a 4 star? I think I liked it better the way it was before where their stock went down after a UNT offer, especially if we want to have a chance of landing a recruit.

Sorry, I'll have to take everyone's word for it because that doesn't look or sound like anything evenly remotely appetizing to me.

Come on, Kansas compared to UNT? Look ladies and gents, I am simply pointing out the interior of the Pit could use a big boost. Even inside of Allen Field House it feels like a brand new arena because of lighting, special effects, and screens. The hanging scoreboard over center court and some of the lighting they've done is a start but there is plenty more that can be done to make the inside of the Pit come to life.

On the last GMG podcast, Vito made a comment that the MBB team is losing a lot of players this year. Actually, they are not. NT loses 4 senors; starter Reese, part time starter Green, Frazier and Johnson. Frazier never was a factor, and Johnson has been ineffective for most of the year because of injuries. The new coach will have the opposite problem. NT will return 9 lettermen and has already signed two recruits. That only leaves 2 open ships. Of course, there could be major turnover in this group but Benford is leaving some very good players despite the record. First of course, the best player on the team and one of the best in the conference if he fully recovers from his injuries, Combs. In his sophomore year, he averaged a double double at 14.9 ppg and 10.5 rbs. The most exciting thing on the current team is the freshman guard tandem of Woolridge and Lawson. These are high energy, high ceiling guys: Lawson is averaging 11 ppg and 4.3 rbs and Woolridge 8.7ppg and 4.3 rbs. Also coming on strong in the absence of Combs, is senior to be 6'9" Temara. Averaging 6.4 ppg and 4.3 rb, but since the departure of Combs; those numbers are up to 11 ppg and 7.5 rbs. Other currently active players include juniors to be: Brice, Brown, and Holston. Brice at 7'1" hasn't make the progress you would like in his second year, but maybe with the right coach and another year experience; he could tap into more of that potential. Brown's numbers are down from last year, but he can be deadly with the 3 pointer. Holston is the defensive ace and because of the current lack of front court players, has been playing a lot at the 4. A very versatile player that if he could further develop his offensive game, would definitely be an asset. White-Pittman and Fuller are injury red shirts this year. Add in the recruits, Simmons and Wainright. Simmons (6'9") a recent player of the week from Cedar Hill, the number 4 team in the state. At the time he was named POW he was averaging 16 pts, 12 rbs and 6 blocks. If he had not already signed with NT; he would be one of the most sought after recruits in the state. Wainright a 6'4 guard is averaging 15.1 ppg and 4.8 rbs for the 20-4 Trinity Valley JC. I strongly believe that if the new coach can keep the nucleus of this team and add a few players that NT could quickly turn this program around.

Don't mean to rekindle an old fire but Rivals includes blue shirts from each school and had us tied at 7th with LA Tech. Just saying

While our 3-point game is woefully short at both ends, we cannot overlook our poor free throw shooting. Opponents can defend more aggressively when they know we will not hit free throws.

Al lives in Florida with his new wife. He attended at least one game last year and was introduced to Wren. He harbors no ill feelings towards RV.

Probably the healthiest attitude to have towards UNT athletics in general.

The Super Pit is a fine place to watch basketball. The biggest problem is the product on the floor over the last 4 or 5 seasons...

Hey i use to register there for classes, stand in line for class cards get to the last one and the class was closed. have to sit in a seat and figure out how to make my schedule work and go thorough the lines again. Good times plus you got to see everyone there. Yes I am old.

There's still some truth to what he's saying. As far as P5/G5, we are still pretty large, we could be better about engaging our alumni. The current lack of engagement is not helping our AD resources.

You are correct, Sir! DOTS is a sequel to this movie, and stands for Dont Ogle The Seals.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many would like to see Fenway and the Boston Garden replaced. Not that the SP is in that category because it definitely is not. However, I don't particularly care for the McDonald's like new arenas, all bright, plastic, shiny and basically all look about the same. I also wonder about people who think the SP is an eyesore, next to the Murchinson. I also ponder why NT has never made any attempt to make the outside more appealing. A little landscaping and imagination would go a long way in improving the street appeal. Obviously, until NT turns this basketball program around, where they play doesn't really matter. A school of close to 40,000 that can't get over an 100 in the student section does not need a new basketball arena. Until recently, SP was easily the best college arena in the area, UTA built a new one, and SMU and TCU had massive renovations. SMU's program has got substantially better due to a ton of money being spend on coaching, not a re-done Moody. UTA played in one of the worst facilities ever, but with a brand new arena and a much better team is still not averaging 2000 in attendance. TCU's program is still foundering. Apparently, any major renovation or new facility, is years down the road for NT. So there will be a lot of time, to make the right decision.

I used to be in the men's chorus when they did that program. I thought it was corny when we practiced it, but when i saw how much people loved it, i was all in.

I wouldn't mind a scrimmage or practice at the Star. Coach Fry had a few Saturday morning practices at Texas Stadium. But the actual spring game needs to be at Apogee.

Just curious, are these practices open to the public to watch?

Just FYI, and something that no one else has mentioned....the existing Super Pit has some handicapped accessibility issues as well.

If it means anything, I've pretty much given up hope on it and tend to not think about it at all anymore.

With hoops, it takes one guy and a solid supporting cast. We could easily rebuild here within a few years with the right coach and staff. I saw Jankovich turn around a 5 win team into one that almost made the NCAA Tournament in one year. Johnny Jones got us to .500 after Trilli left him a 4-win team in year one. Going from bad to average can be achieved fairly quickly. It's going from average to good that is the longer process.

It may be a good move for Tech, which has thousands of alumni in the area that wouldn't travel to Lubbock for a spring game. However, they are undoubtable spending a lot of money and I doubt it is is very cost effective. Although, it would be much cheaper for NT; I don't see much benefit. Most alumni in the area can get to Denton as easy or easier than Frisco. Overall, there would probably be a lot more fans like students and Dentonites that wouldn't make the trip than people who would not go to Denton but would be lured by the Star.

UNT is beautiful...and then you've got...the Pit. We already demolished those crackhead apartments by Clark, take the Pit out next.

The Pit isn't very workable is what I'm saying. It may be a fine place to watch a game. But it is waaaay more difficult than it should be to put on a game.

You are pretty out of date on your info regarding the so-called "17" and Ernie. Ernie is not attending basketball games and is not at all happy with the state of the program in basketball at the moment.

There's a lot of great talent out there, including those at the lower levels.. Coach Fry even got a QB coach from Austin College one time.. You may have heard of him before...his name is Bill Snyder. I'm not saying the current hires wont be any good. Maybe they can even keep UTEP below 52 points this next year? But we never seem to consider up and comers from successful lower division programs who would appreciate it here a little more. Rick

For y'all even slightly hinting that the extension is not deserved due to a lack of NCAA success... What other UNT programs have been consistently ranked over the past decade (and I'm not talking being in the upper-90's in CFN's "Top 130", I'm talking respected publications)? For a while there, JJ had the b-ball team ranked in the mid-major top 25, and coach Stracke had his Ortiz/Cazoubon team ranked, but that's about it. Coach Hedlund's teams pop up in rankings just about every year while beating some big programs regionally. It's absolutely deserved.

It IS my money. I contribute to the Mean Green Club, buy season tickets, and pay taxes. I also, in my very small way, contributed to the construction of Apogee Stadium. But when people travel up and down I-35, Fouts is more visible than Apogee. Again, Fouts should have been torn down and upon the few times a building is needed to host an event at Fouts, bring in a temporary building that would not be such an eyesore. Use it 2 or 3 days a year and give everyone a view of the beautiful North Texas campus or of Apogee Stadium. GO MEAN GREEN

There are a few throw away lines that reference things being discontinued and such. We don't ever see in atmosphere fighters again in the next three movies, so hard to say if there is a continuity issue there. Similar with the troopers, we don't see special ops or much ground troops in the same environments, so not sure that qualifies. Others have done much more research than I have put together analysis on this stuff, so I am sure that info is out there if you are curious.
