  3. Hire Mario Cristobal as replacement for Riddle. Before becoming FIU head coach, Cristobal coached tight ends at Rutgers (01-02) and Miami (04-05). I know it's a stretch. But, look...the guy put together some pretty good recruiting classes at FIU with not much more than promises to work with. Many coaching contracts say that payout after dismissal is diminished by whatever said coach makes at a new job. So, unless FIU lump summed him, we might be able to get him on the cheap since FIU would still be paying him off his old contract. I know it's a crazy idea and farfetched. But...it doesn't hurt to dream. The guy already knows our competition level, and has extensive recruiting ties to Florida, a land brimming and deep with speed.

  6. The only thing last nights "championship" game proved is how bad the NCAA needs a playoff system of minimum 8 teams. Go on and get your 6 super conferences set with two mid-major. Each conference winner goes to the playoff system. Division winners that do not win conferences, then the best teams with a "power" ranking make up the remaining bowls.

  8. Folks...we are going to need a lot more help with this year's event as we want to try to make it our best yet...at this point what I can think of that we need are: 1) Players 2) Sponsors - we have various sponsorship opportunities 3) Silent Auction Items 4) Game Day Help - set-up, registration, silent auction help, take-down 5) Help at game time with yard and down markers 6) Referees - we are looking for folks who have actual flag football referee experience if possible...would like at least 4 referees this year...if at all possible. 7) Team captains There is a good bit of time to plan now in order to avoid conflicts...get this on your schedules now and let's make this our biggest and best GMG.Com Bowl ever! It is the 10th Anniversary after all...got to do it up big! AND...ladies, this is a co-ed event!!!! Hoping to have a good turnout by the ladies this year as well. Come on...you know you want to play! Please PM me if you have thoughts, ideas, want to help, want to volunteer, want to play, have an item to donate to the silent auction, etc., etc. Let's get this on!

  9. I'm a North Texas fan, thank you. Which is not exactly a glamorous title. But it's where I CHOSE to go to school. It wasn't a backup plan. It's where my money goes. It's where my heart lies. I find it strange our alleged super fans are posting topic after topic fawning over the Aggies, but hey, maybe that's just the Mean Green in me.

  12. If you hate Aggie talk so much why don't you just find a new message board?

  13. it's strange that some on this board have have such a hatred for ut and anyone who brings them up, but seem to have their knee pads on for a&m. who the hell cares about a&m? they have been one of the most overrated football schools of the past two and a half decades, until this year. and for the record, i don't like ut either.

  14. 5 million people in a three county area (Palm Beach, Dade, and Broward counties). An area so rich in Boca Raton and Palm Beach and down to South Beach that it is known as the Gold Coast. Pro players like Morris leading rusher in Redskins history from FAU and also in the pros T.Y.Hilton from FIU. Also look at the records and we have not exactly dominated either of these teams. FAU's new stadium is just as nice as ours with more luxuary suites. This board continues to downgrade the FL C-USA schools when they are actually showing much more potential than UNT. The negative talk in this thread just makes those with delusions of NT granduer look stupid.

  15. Well, if you ever came you would know that the open mic is indeed "open". At times they all but beg for folks to come to the open mic...at least they did during the Coach Mac Shows..hard to "censor" a guy's question that just walks up to the mic. And, FYI...I have never asked an open mic question...so, have no clue if mine would be answered or not or if I would be "turned away". Have never seen anyone "turned away". You know, Sarge, folks do come from Dallas for the shows, so the highway is open for you to come and see first hand how these things work these days instead of just throwing out some childish barb at me all the time. What's interesting to me is that all those who "want answers" and have all this, often negative, stuff to say here on GMG.Com never seem willing to show up and ask those questions to the coach or someone who might could actually answer them. And, like GrandGreen said...what in the heck do you want them to say anyway? You want RV to throw Benford under the bus in public? Not going to happen and should not! You want some public mea culpa from RV or from Benford or from Mac? Not going to happen...what dream world are you living in? And, again, FYI...I rarely attend the BB Coach Show. Probably should, may well, this season, but just have been a tad busy...but did make all but one of the Coach Mac Shows...unfortunately the one where Coach Mac bought everyone in attendance a beer! Bummer. But, you are free to attend and see how this works now, and so is anyone who wants "an answer"...try the open mic. They can't ignore the question in an open mic very well, but the real question is...will anyone ask that kind of question in person in public? Hmmmmm..I am certain of one thing, however, you will find yet another way to send a little positive comment my way. Things

  16. Bad is being a FBS member and VOLUNTARILY dropping down to FCS Bad is NEVER hosting a SEC team at home in the modern are. Bad is also having a new stadium and having the ref mikes malfunction FOR THE FIRST 2 YEARS. Bad is firing your coach shortly after he has a heart attack, then allowing him to coach out the season, only to have said coach go to Academy and buy the cheapest, ugliest plain black uniforms and have your team wear them in the final home game. Bad is having a very talented team, one including a lottery pick, and hiring a coach who has no idea what he is doing to lead that team. And having to probably tolerate the guy for 3 or 4 years because you signed him to a 5 (not a 4) year contract and are too poor to fire or re-assign him. Bad is going to a new conference with better competition when you couldn't even compete in the last crappy conference you were in. Bad is knowing that your basketball team is doomed for failure NEXT year with the same train wreck running the program. Bad is the fear that the only publicity you willl get from this move is local media saying that you weren't readty athletically for the move. Bad is also being a 3rd rate citizen in the "big market" that you occupy, only selected for membership in another conference because the 2 prettier schools were taken. I could do this all day.

  17. Well, there was a coach's show tonight at Rudy's in Denton. There was also a mike where you could ask Benford any questions you want in person. So since you live in Krum, perhaps you can come to a show.

  20. I'll be sure to let my superiors know that my being assigned to work is frowned upon by UNT athetics' resident unpaid mouthpiece. I'm sure they'll get right on allowing me to show up so that I can ask the tough penetrating questions. Tell me, since you believe that NOBODY should be fired for lack of performance...if DPD decides to let me go because I didn't show up to work, will you pump some sunshine up their asses on my behalf? I know, why don't you suggest to them that I was underperforming because they didn't throw more money at me? You know, a few of them are NT grads. Don't miss your chance to tell them how our sports teams are underperforming because they're not writing checks. Oooor, you could finally come to the realization that a great many people are frustrated...don't give a rat's ass about your browbeating...and will continue to vent on a FAN MESSAGE BOARD, despite your silly protestations. I don't respond to you because I dislike you. I think you're swell. Silly, but swell. I respond because it amuses me to see you perpetually trot out the same company line as if an "S" is gonna magically appear on your chest and you'll get a cookie at the next quarterly meeting (those still happen, right?). You're a caricature, a sadly skewed depiction of a cheerleader chanting to an empty stadium.

  21. Apparently he's coming to Houston and will file an NCAA waiver to be immediately eligible. If true, Johnson, along with Minnesota transfer Barker in addition to our already solid receiving corps lead by 5-star recruit Greenberry will be nasty this upcoming season.

  22. Hey Bro, Good Luck getting answers!!! I've posted my thoughts long before your post all but Daring RV to do the right thing and fire Benford! I did this soon after the season start like many others. I gave many reason why RV should have the "guts" to do what is/was necessary to save UNT Men's BB program before we're thrown back into the "ice ages" of losing men's BB. Several posters told me to stop wasting my breath. Reluctantly I've had to take their advice (after mentally beating myself into submission)! RV and the administration are the only ones with the power to change anything and they're not going to in time for this team to be successful with Tony Mitchell still here to lead or be the centerpoint of our team. This means they've given up on our team too. Looks like they're willing to take the PR hit and believe that some future coach or affilation with CUSA will allow for a program turnaround that will probably never happen or take 5 to 30 years. I've started following LSU BB because I'm so angery, and frustrated by what I've seen take place with our men's BB team. I'm going to save myself the grief. RV or someone many years down the line will/can fix this situation, but it may never happen. I live in Houston or I gurantee you I'd ask the question(s) that need to be asked! Would I be given an honest anwser as to why there's a huge pink elephant in the middle of the living room, Fat chance!!!! Go on looking for anwsers if you wish. Sadly, you already have the anwsers you seek, you just don't have any power to change the situation!!! Clearly the Man, or group of men that can change things won't until Hell frezee's over, or they've choosen to wait until all the water evaporates from the thaw after the Freeze.

  23. One good reason to recruit Texas high school talent is because the scholarship of a Texas resident is cheaper. My understanding is that out of state recruits, even those on scholarship, must pay out of state tuition. To say nothing of the fact that a Texas athlete is more likely to bring his Texas friends and family to watch him play.

  26. Tulsa, UH, UTEP, and UNT to the MWC please. It would add a solid footprint in Texas and Oklahoma for the MWC for recruiting, adds some good markets to MWC, and make for good regional rivalries with (mostly) similar universities. I really hope that RV is in talks with UH and Tulsa trying to form partnerships for package deals somewhere.

  30. Every time we draw a good crowd we lay an egg--ULaLa national tv game was the one exception. Perception is everything and to the rest of the world we remain a small, commuter school in a rural town that shows no interest in football in particular and the universities in general. We are viewed as a party, pot head school whose only fame is from horn tooters and teachers. We can only change this perception with winning seasons and a signature like ULM vs. ARK & AL.

  34. We may have reached our Tony limit per NCAA regulations? "Each NCAA Division I Basktball team should be limited to one player and one coach with the same first name. Under no cirumcstance should there be a total of three coaches and or players with the same first name." ... I had to dig deep to find this rule...

  36. If you want answers it would probably serve you better to ask someone who might have the answers. They have phones where you live, right? Or, like Dozer mentioned, Coach show live and in person every Monday at 7PM at Rudy's in Denton. Interesting thing is, I heard this same comment from folks during last year's football season, yet they never showed up to ask Coach Mac in person. I wonder why that was?

  38. The only problem we have at UNT is we don't win enough. We are not cursed. No other program can hold us back. Our future has always been in our hands. The hands of the UNT alumi, students, and administration. We just have to win against the teams in our conference and the better teams on our schedules. As alumi and fans, we just need to support our university as best we can, and always be proud of our connections to UNT. Of course ya'll already know this. There is one thing I know about true Mean Green fans, and that is, we don't quit. This football program will become the institution we all know it can be. I believe that.

  40. Touche. Don't know why I didn't think of that. Oh, because I've never had to worry about the national championship game before! Seriously. Screw ESPN! They're going to ultimately send college football the way of professional boxing where if you're not Pacquiao, people have no freaking clue. Also not a fan of this Monday night 3 months after New Year format, but that's just me. I'd rather drink beer and eat nachos while watching the game instead of juggling school lunches and homework.
