  1. Personally, I am getting tired of the innuendo crap you throw out from time-to-time about how supposedly the UNT women's coach has been wronged by the athletic administration and/or the alumni association. Come on, MAN UP and say what you have to say - or just simply drop it and find another crusade - of which you seem to have many. Rick, your crap about this issue is getting old - especially if you are going to continue to hide behind veiled references. Show your hand - tell us with specifics to which you are referring.

  2. I suppose that this is as good a place as any to say that my initial response a year ago to the possible hiring of Coach Mac was absolutely wrong. I perceived him as the second coming of Rod Rust, and that couldn't have been more inaccurate. If he's the second coming of any former coach at North Texas, it's Hayden Fry. There.

  3. Looking at that board makes me want to vomit. Looks like a lot of seasons with only 5 home games in our future.

  6. I started thinking about the last time we had a coach hired away by a program like Texas. I had to go back all the way to Hayden Fry. Fry's hire really doesn't compare, as Iowa is far from the marque program of the Big 10. Then I started thinking about the last time ANYONE hired away one of our head coaches. I think that would be the guy that went to Tech after 1 year. That was immediately after Fry. So, it has been OVER 30 YEARS since UNT has had ANY other university hire away one of our head coaches for the same position at their school. 30 YEARS. Every other coach has eventually been fired or retired. For 30 YEARS.* No one should be upset. We should be celebrating a major step for this program. * - This is off the top of my head. Corrections encouraged.

  9. http://www.wnba.com/shock/Kathy_mcconnellmiller__assistant_coach_tulsa_shock.html http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/blog/8/entry-54-kathy-mcconnell-miller/ Come on, Rick; she's just up the road in Tulsa as an assistant now in the WNBA. She took a historically crappy Tulsa women's program to a couple of WNITs. She took Colorado to the WNIT while fighting among Sherri Coale and Kim Mulkey and the rest of the strong women's Big 12 basketball field. Stopping clowning around and interview this woman. She's good. Here she is in her current job of coaching freakishly big professional women's basketball players in the WNBA: Here she is during Colorado's WNIT run: She comes from a basketball family, with a brother who has been a college head coach, brothers who are high school basketball coaches, and a sister who is the head basketball coach a Duquesne: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_4736696 Come one, Rick...I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...two former Big 12 coaches - Dan McCarney in football Kathy McConnell-Miller in women's basketball, yo:

  10. When the refs are allowing a part of 6 players for the same team, it's a GREAT game. It was kinda like being WKULALA'd.

  12. I don't see how he couldn't be at or near the top of our list, unless he's making so much as an assistant we couldn't "make an offer he can't refuse".

  15. I don't think that is nearly as hard to explain as Baylor. A&M is basically as large as Texas plenty of "State" schools are roughly equal to the big brother school in basketball. (Hell even in a case like Kentucky, where Louisville is "little brother" to the Wildcats --- they still have 2 NATIONAL TITLES are are one of the top 10 programs of all time) Baylor is a small religious private school. Much harder to recruit there.

  17. After the student crowd at the last game why would you want to have more home games??
    1 point
  18. If North Texas becomes an Alliance member, our entire home scheduling becomes a tad easier. If we play a number of cross-over games with MWC schools it becomes dramatically easier. What irony if by 2014 we open up against SMU as a CUSA or Alliance member and even moreso if "AQ" is eliminated from the NCAA vocabulary by 2014, too. GMG!

  19. Yawn. Casual fans don't buy season tickets. College football's core audience is students and season ticket holders.

CRAP! If this happens, then congrats to Karen. I was really hoping she would have five years or so to really lay down a foundation before leaving. However, it's a great opportunity to find another quality coach who can continue the upward trend. It'll really stink for the girls on the team having to learn a third system in three years.

  22. $24 per game. Sorry , but the casual fan is not going to buy that for this kind of schedule..

  23. But the average person does. Everyone has a body. Pretty much everyone gets sick, and of course everyone dies. Without the mandate, what if your average Joe who makes $40k chooses not to have it, and then has a heart attack? Are you going to refuse him service at the nearest hospital? Are you going to have the taxpayer pick up the bill? Those without jobs and the poor people who do work are already on medicare. This is for everyone else who simply needs insurance to deal with illness, do try and keep up. Wrong answer. So, at least everyone knows where you stand. A few do, but Canadians overwhelmingly support their health care system. I even heard some disgusted that the family of the snowboarder who died was having to bear the brunt of the very expensive treatment she received in the US.

  24. Right. The average person's salary can cover cancer, heart surgery, or falling off the roof and becoming paralyzed. Yeah. Normal people can afford that without insurance. That's why illness is the number one cause of bankruptcy in America, because we're just lazy and not thrifty. Of course not. Modern conservatives pretty much live under the motto "f you, got mine". Let me ask you this then: Is a country like Canada either of those things?

  27. There wasn't anything in his Twitter posts that made him look bad, aside perhaps from a few comments that suggested he was fond of smoking pot. Otherwise, he was just hitting on girls, bullshitting with his friends and talking a bunch of random teen nonsense.

  28. Our UNT culture may not allow this to happen, but we should treat the Texas Southern U game this Fall just as UT treated all our games. The UT fans AND students showed up at DKR Memorial Stadium as if they were playing Notre Dame for heaven's sake but rather........ they were playing North Texas. A new stadium and (possible) new conference may be all we older alums can expect to see in our lifetime. UNT students showing up en mass at Apogee Stadium no matter who we play may be wishing for more than we can expect but rather will be something another generation after ours will get to experience. GMG!

  29. Yep, My best friend from high school lives in Canada. He has back problems and initially like the free health care for maintenance. When the problems got worse, he used his own money to travel back to the U.S. (dual citizenship) and pay for his back procedure so he wouldn't have to wait 6 months for surgery. Now, he puts aside a certain amount of his salary for his families medical care (HSA anyone?). Oh, they use the socialized health care system (which is exactly what Canadians, well, western Canadians, anyway, call it) for maintenance or minor illnesses, but any major conditions or any type of surgery, they load up and head for the states. And, if you talk to working class western Canadians, every single one of them gripes about having to pay over half their salary in taxes (after income, sales, gas, etc...). You should hear them complain about the free ride the government gives the native population.

  30. Yes. But, you have to understand...people who throw money away on expensive cable plans, cigarettes, beer, etc. on a regular basis don't want to pay out of pocket for small, routine medical expenses. So, again, we're back to the lazy wanting the prepared and productive to subsidize their slothfulness. Everything you do in life involves a certain amount of risk. If you choose to use your money on things that are largely unnecessary and don't plan ahead with your health and health insurance, that shouldn't be my problem. Oh...and, I'm not a millionaire either, Rick. So, throw me into the category of non-millionaires who takes care of his own health expenses. The bottom line is, what kind of society will we have: One which rewards responsibility or one that rewards laziness?

  35. Man, who needs a professional investigation when so called facts like this are out there. Let's lock him up and throw away the key. Funny, you post things favorable to the prosecution of Zimmerman, yet you obviously knew about Martin's twitter account long before I did, yet never chose to post that info. Agenda?... Naaaa This is boring me and I'm done. It's sad that many in this country have become so ignorant that they make judgements without any knowledge of the facts. Think I'll go to starbucks and get a handie.
