DALLAS, Texas - The fifth annual Heart of Dallas Bowl will be played on Friday, Dec. 26, at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium on the grounds of Fair Park, game officials announced today. This year’s bowl game will kick off at noon central time and is slated to feature teams from Conference USA and the Big Ten Conference.
The 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl will be aired on ESPN. The game has been played on ESPNU for the past four years.
“The opportunity to play on a Friday during a traditional holiday period is fantastic for our game and our fans,” said Brant Ringler, Executive Director of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. “We look forward to working with both of our conference participants along with the staff at the Cotton Bowl on raising the profile of our event locally and nationally by moving to an ESPN window.”
Conference USA will be seeking its third Heart of Dallas Bowl win as the 14-school league will enter the 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl as the defending champions. Last January, North Texas used a 22-point fourth quarter to post a 36-14 win over UNLV on New Year’s Day at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
Behind a 532-yard, three touchdown passing performance by Case Keenum, 18th-ranked Houston scored CUSA’s first bowl win, defeating Penn State 30-14 in the 2012 version played when the game was still known as the TicketCity Bowl.
The Big Ten will begin its 119th season of intercollegiate football, and is scheduled to have a fourth team appear in this year’s Heart of Dallas Bowl. In addition to Penn State, Northwestern and Purdue have all participated in the bowl.
The 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl starts the 85th year of games being played at Cotton Bowl Stadium on the grounds of Fair Park, which features 227 acres of museums, attractions, history, art and performances located in the “heart” of the ninth largest city in the United States.
