Ranking The Conferences

11. Sun Belt - The league took a monster step forward last year with Troy shocking Oklahoma State, Florida Atlantic beating Minnesota and Memphis, and in one of the biggest upsets in an upset-filled season, UL Monroe stunning Alabama. Troy, Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee will be strong, while North Texas could have the most exciting offense this side of Texas Tech.

The best team should be ... Florida Atlantic

You gotta be kidding me... He ranked SBC lower the MAC?

The MAC had two of their 13 teams win less than 4 games. The SBC had three of their 8 teams win less than 4 games. In spite of our exciting offense, we stunk up the joint last year. Until it is seen that the coaching has fixed the defensive problems, Fiutak will continue to rank us low.

Overall, we are making strides but the conference started so deep in a hole that it may take us a long time to dig out in the eyes of many. And, due to our OOC schedule, we won't come close to haing a winning record this year (against out-of-conference opponents) either but I do expect us to be much improved.

Much of the indifference to the SunBelt is the newness of some of the schools in it...mainly move-ups from 1-AA. Temple is bad but Temple has been around a long time and I think history gains some respect for some schools. A horrible SMUt will be favored over a newbie FAU, FIU, et al almost every game, just because of writer's mental block about name recognition.
