Now I know that Im no recruiting expert, but how can Troy be ranked higher then we are? And 21 points higher as well?

North Texas = 24 commitments Troy = 16 commitments

North Texas = 2 signed LOI Troy = 0 signed LOI

North Texas = 7 3* recruits Troy = 4 3* recruits

North Texas = 1 5.7 recruit (Dodge) Troy = 1 5.7 recruit

North Texas = 2 5.6 recruits (Edwards & Horton) Troy = 1 5.6 recruit

North Texas = 4 5.5 recriots Troy = 2 5.5 recruits

North Texas = Avg. 2.29 stars Troy = 2.00 stars

North Texas = 0 5.0 recruits Troy = 0 5.0 recruits

North Texas = 1 sub 5.0 recruit Troy = 2 recruits not even ranked

Now I dont know about you, and you can look at all the lists you want, but something is a miss when you can look at those numbers and tell me that Troy's recruiting class on paper is better then ours!

I was just looking at that and saw that despite adding a couple of quality players and getting to 7 3-star players, we have actually DROPPED in their team rankings.

It isn't just Troy that has a "superior" recruiting class that isn't backed up by the numbers. Add several others to that.

I have decided to rank UNT at 64.

And I also declare a jihad on the Rivals ranking system.

Been wondering the same thing. If anyone can give a quick "Rivals Team Points System for Dummies" overview, it would be much appreciated.

For team ranking this is all I've got

2-star = 3points

3-star = 5 points

4 - star = 7

5 - star = 9

But on top of the basic ranking teams get alot of bonus points for signing players on national and state list. We get screwed because Riley and Horton are the only players we have on any state or national list.

Because rivals over values making any national lists and their recruit Tim Lamb is rank 36th best prep school player in the nation. Even though he's graded 3-star 5.7 just like Riley he gets huge bonus points in the team ranking just for being on a national list.

Well that's not fair.

Well that's not fair.

Never said it was fair and with out the formula I don't know exactly how its the numbers add up. But from my math Riley is only getting a total of 11 point including the 5 for being 3-star being 52nd in Texas and 48th best athlete in the nation. Yet Miami OH gets 38 points from Zac Dysert 3-star 5.6 ranked 31st in Ohio and 22nd best prostyle QB. Nevada gets 36 points for Michael Ball 3-star 5.7 as well and 22nd best RB in the nation. The system has a lot of problems so just look at the number and make you own conclusions I agree we should be 64th.

I checked Rivals.com for the North Texas total Rivals.com

points back to 2003.

Class of 2003, 790 points, # 83, record 9-3

Class of 2004, 120 points, # 72, record 7-5

Class of 2005, 65 points, # 94, record 2-9

Class of 2006, 54 points, # 111, record 3-9

Class of 2007, 59 points, # 113, record 2-10

Class of 2008, 95 points, # 76, record-???

I scanned over recruits names in each class.

I was amazed at the number of recruits in past classes that

disappeared for what ever reason, and never even made

any contributions to the program.

Maybe the correlation with Rivals.com points and the

performance of the team has some merit.

One would think, with 4 SBC Titles, the recruiting for

North Texas would have been outstanding for the '04, "05,

and '06 classes. At least now, Coach Dodge and his staff

are rebuilding the program the right way! Even though

NT was # 113 in 2007, look at the jump to # 76 for 2008.

Outstanding!
