A Perspective: Ou 77 Tamu 0

OU has not been too nice to other Texas-based college's coach's inaugural games. Coach Fran took a big knot on his head in his 1'st season as the TAMU coach. In fact, it seems the Aggies upset the Sooners the very next year. I stand to be corrected on all this (as always).

One game does not a season make was what the FSN color guy said; but did OU seem faster and quicker than in their game against Boise State?

We are quite fortunte to have the 2'nd Coming of Hayden Fry at UNT, lets all enjoy all this as long as we can.

BTW, former UNT Coach Hayden Fry endured a few head-bangin' losses of his own during his 6 years in Denton including one in Stillwater we'd all just as soon forget; like as in a 61-7 loss up in Stillwater in 1975--------even more ironic was that 3 weeks after that huge loss from the OSU Cowboys we travelled up to Knoxville and beat the University of Tennessee). :o

Maybe until TDodge gets all his players in 3-4 years we might ought to just stick with playing Tulsa U in the future for our token state of Oklahoma based opponent, eh? :D

Hey Mean Green Varsity Team!

Use & Abuse SMU As A Building Block To Where We Want All This To Go! Right?

Here's the boxscore from that game. But, it wasn't Fran's first game....it was his 10th game that season.

OU totally dominated the Ags.....33 first downs to 3. 600 yards of offense to 54.

To show you how quickly things can turn around: The next two years, OU won....but by scores of 7 points and 6 points.

Here's the boxscore:

And, if I'm not mistaken.....the very next year......A & M beat Oklahoma.

Well, if OU had opened their season with TAMU, if could have been worse than 77 to Zip!

Thanks for the correction, Green Means Go.

Even more amazing that TAMU with all their resources would take such a knot on their head against any school. OU has scored as many points against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska back in the 70's if memory serves me well (and it for sure doesn't serve me as well as it used to).

Sorry, guys, but the Ags haven't beaten Oklahoma since that 77-0 debacle. However, they keep getting a little closer. The first year after they lost by 7, the second year by 6 and last year by 1.

Unfortunately, we may never get the chance to avenge this humiliating loss so we'll just have to suck it up and move on.

That's the thing about severe arse whippings; once they start it's difficult to stop them. They just kinda start snowballing. Be it a football game, a bar fight or a six day war in the middle east. The aggie team that lost to ou 77-0 was not as bad as that score indicated just as North Texas isn't as bad as 79-10 indicates. We'll be alright. Give it time.

We did a lot better that the Aggs did in that game.. 77-0 game (after 3 quarters)

Team Statistics

Oklahoma to Texas A&M

TOTAL FIRST DOWNS 33 to 3

TOTAL NET YARDS 639 to 54

Total Plays 82 to 42

NET YARDS RUSHING 342 to 22

NET YARDS PASSING 297 to 32

Things happen.... we did poorly but the guys did not throw in the towel as the Aggs did that day it appeared... They appeared to just quit.

We did get 10 points, not zero, and we passed for over 230 yards. Our offense just could not stop them at all on passing plays...they were too fast and very good.
