Why does the Belt have divisions if they are going to seed by total conference record?

I'd say that the divisions are for scheduling purposes. You play home and home within your division and home or away in the other division. Plus, the divisional champ gets a nice trophy. The overall seeding is for tournament purposes to see who advances.

It seems that if there are two clear division winners then they should play for the conference championship and that winner should advance. But it makes it awkward if there were co-division winners in one of the divisions.

Another question would be why have tournaments at all? Why not just let the conference champion advance?
