OU/UNT comparisons...let's get real

I can't count how many times I've seen Bomar to Meager comparisons. Now I'm seeing Dickey to Stoops comparisons and comparisons to how OU's disappointing season is similar to ours.

What are you people smoking?? These comparisons are simply absurd and most of them are coming from people who suggest that some of us have set our expectations for UNT too high. No school in the nation sets higher expectations for their team than OU.

I'm no OU fan and I'm no Bomar fan but you can take a wild guess as to who I would want quarterbacking my team.

I also don't think DD should be fired for not winning the Belt this year but there are simply no grounds to compare DD's accomplishments of 4 consecutive SBC titles to what Stoops has done in the last four years either. I used to brag about how we had the second longest conference winning streak but that never seemed to impress anyone (so I'd have to bring out that claim to being the top music school).

Only in my dreams would comparisons to OU's football program ever be legitimized.

Here is why people compare OU to NT and Meager to Bomar. Relative to the facilities, support, and conference affiliation that each school is blessed with the schools are having dissappointing seasons by the standards each has set. You are entirely correct to say that winning 4 SBC titles is nothing compared to a national title and several Big XII titles. Likewise it is true to say that Fouts is nothing compared to OU's stadium, our athletic endowment is nothing compared to theirs, our fan support is nothing compared to theirs and the level of athlete we have here currently is not on par. So, when you say that you are dumbfounded I can understand why. You don't get the idea of relative comparison. It's no big deal, we all have concepts we can't grasp.

Wow, I don't know if you were trying to be sarcastic or belittling there Emmitt, but it sure seems like it. Oh yea, and I get the concept of a relative comparison, I just don't think it applies to this situation. We have nothing in common with OU other than we are major universities, and our QB's are both young. I, too, am amazed at how many references are being drawn between us and OU.
