Minium: AAC unlikely to replace UConn with ODU, but as the University grows, expect that to change in a few years

The revenue game within the game of college football is every year moving farther and farther away from the second-tier Group of 5 schools. Their chances of ever making serious money are nil. The AAC and Mountain West colleges will tread water or worse. Meanwhile, the Mid-American, Conference USA and Sun Belt are like sharecroppers, forever beholden to the SEC and Big Ten and their guarantee games, chasing their tails in a hopeless spiral.

As for those who partook of the crazy race to catch the Power Five train, it’s time to relent. UConn’s surrender is a sign.

It’s time for the tsunami to move back out to sea and allow the damage to be assessed. In the case of Connecticut and Temple and schools like them, it’s a crossroads. UConn’s choice seems to be clear.

Maybe Temple will also move back to its neighborhood and the Atlantic 10 where it belongs and concede that the dream of FBS football is a hollow pipe.

This writer acts as if these CUSA, AAC, MAC, MWC programs chose this path rather than it being politically chosen for them in the name of greed. These P5 columnists/journalists/etc. only live in the confines of their cushy bubble. Then they have the audacity to look down on the 'peasants' as if they chose their current destination.

It would be best for college football for all (G5) schools to maintain healthy, financially secure and viable sports programs. I don’t see (P5) working in a vacuum. Money is the name of the game but tv revenue should be spread around. Certainly we have to raise our own funds and do a better job with gate revenue. But for me we are still part of the overall college agenda and need to find a way to live with the much higher profitable schools. Or I may be crazy and just trying to have us hang on in some form or fashion to div 1 programs

It’s a reality that the Power Conferences keep us in the game because they need the wins—nothing else. When, not if, they get this playoff expanded to 8 teams, the need for the G5’s will be nil. That’s when I see the schism finally occurring. And it’ll be great to give our kids and our fans a chance to win a national title in football.
