  1. What's amazing is just how this team has regressed so much from last season even though we added JW and CJ. People say that JJ didn't "run an offenfensive system". THEN LET'S GO BACK TO THAT!!!! Because whatever the hell Benford is trying to run is obviously not working. Square peg(players) round hole(system). You know what you have the one peg that can't change this season, the players, but you have the chance to change the hole/system to make it work. Figure it out Benford. Sweet jesus this is just infuriating. I've never been so excited for any UNT athletic team as I was for this one headed into the season. We may not win 8 games this year. You can spout off all you want about the players not playing to the system or not buying in or not being smart enough play a sophisticated system or being to "street" to run sets. Fine then. Let's go with any of those reasons/excuses, whatever you want to call them. But look at what this team did last season with less!!! If all JJ did was roll the ball out there and tell them to go play then lets fucking get back to that!!!!   4. I am an ECU fan and somewhat of a message board nerd. When the new schools joined Conf USA, to learn more about them, I went to each of the message boards to glean what I could about the history of each school . In my opinion, this forum has some of the most well informed and level headed posters among all Conf USA schools, including ones already in the conference. I actually have learned quite a bit about your school through some of the excellant posts. I really think Conf USA will be a competitive league and it certainly was important to ECU. Except for Southern Miss and Marshall, ECU did not have any rivalries in the Conf when we started in it. Over time however, ECU developed some very good ones , as well as benefiting from better recruiting, and fan support. Anyway, good look to you guys are you enter Conf USA. I think you will be pleased with what it can do for a school.

I know you WANT this thing to work, but don't you find it a little interesting that the same players return from last year, and team play regresses this horribly? Step in the GMG.com time machine if you will. Look back to 4 months ago. Were you excited about this team? Why? I bet I can answer for you: Our All-American was returning, a year older & a year wiser. He also went to NBA camps and excelled there. On top of this, we return a fantastic core of great players, and are assured grades will not be a problem (and they haven't been). We bring in a heralded recruit to fill the big-man role vacated by Hogans. National basketball writers are buzzing about our team... not just GMG.com people & Vito. The ONLY VARIABLE??? Coach Tony Benford. Because, after all, we've SEEN all of the players (sans Coleman & Hardwick), and know what they bring to the table. Do some of them have weaknesses? Sure! Do their strengths exceed their weaknesses? Absolutely... because we've SEEN it. Fast-forward to today and step out of the GMG.com time machine. These same players are displaying drastic regression from last year. Our record is abysmal and coach Benford has all but lost the team (if he hasn't yet). I refuse to believe that all of these players simply forgot how to hit a jumper or how to penetrate the lane. Because I've SEEN them do it. Are you telling me/us that you believe all of the players' level of play regressed over a span of 8 months, and the addition of coach Benford has only a minimal impact on this?

  7. New coach shouldn't be stuck with old coach's recruits. Coaching stability should be a deciding factor for kids that make early commitments.

  8. Kingsbury is a hell of a coach. I wish we would have promoted him at UH instead of promoting Levine but what's done is done. Now I'm going to play Devil's Advocate. If he did not fit the offense, he did not fit the offense. There are numerous schools out there for him to choose from, so it's not like his football career is over or anything. Mac has pulled some offers from kids, especially considering that for some of them, UNT was their only D1 offer. So does that mean his word can't be trusted either? Things like this happen all the time. You should think about it from a coach's perspective aside from a fan's.

  9. How about the over-medication of our youth? How about the glorification of mass murderers by the media? How about the abdication of parenting in our society ? Or, you can blame it on a mechanical device, because that's the easy thing to do and will get emotion on your side. It's crazy. It's like blaming drunk driving deaths on the automobile. But it's easy, and as a society, we have decided that we pretty much don't want to do anything hard to solve problems.

  10. I think we should have throwback day in 2013! Think about the revenue opportunities for the school. Sell NTSU shirts, old logo items, bring back some leaders from the past and celebrate our history at halftime. Play some music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Rule #1: 1. Make sure this is a non-televised game - no need to confuse the sheep out there. 2. Create a tagline for the game - Our History Our Pride or A Rich Tradition BSU celebrates its history from the 50's through the ranks of 1AA and into today's college football power. I have seen so many colors, logos, names...and I only started following the Mean Green in '86! I have a lot to learn about our Rich Past. Finally, I saw a 16 ounce glass tumbler at Voertmans the other day with our full fight song on it, including the change U-N-T-Eagles...I would like to see the football leadership - coaches, student presidents, fraternities, alumni associations...talk to the kids at Eagle Camp or whatever we call it. Talk about working together to preserve the pride of our fight song. Get them to practice it and even talk about how to drown out anyone who disrespects the fight song. It would be like turning the tide against the idiots and getting students to organize for tradition. This could also be talked about in freshman orientations... GMG

One person interviewed said he thought there would be people crying when they watched Ray's last dance. ESPN apologizes for Brent Musberger's statements about how beautiful a woman is, but they praise the degenerate Ray Lewis. yea

Use the "military-industrial" complex comment all you want, because it wasn't coined by some pot smoking hippy of the late sixties, but by someone who should know.....DD Eisenhower. So that makes it VALID.

  18. I've just learned Benford has suspended the entire team for tonight's game. He did however, find replacements. This is your starting lineup... PG - Air Bud SG - Bugs Bunny SF - Jackie Moon PF - Foghorn Leghorn C - Sean Bradley Should be quite a match.

  19. My problem with this team doesn't start with the coaches. Yes, they haven't been successful and tend to let us down, but we have 2 former head coaches on staff who have coached over 400 basketball games each. I think the problem with this team is the things that cant be coached, such as heart, effort, and laziness. How many times do you see our players laying out on the court for loose balls? How many times have you seen anyone besides Franklin take a charge? Not very many. You don't see any players out there going 100% from the start to the finish. That just hurts me to see guys with such athletic ability not using everything they can. When you have god given athleticism, use it. If you ever go watch the women's team you will see the biggest display of hustle and heart. Those girls sacrifice their bodies laying out for balls and taking charges, they show how bad they want to win, and have been about 1 play away in 8 different games from being about 12-2. The most impressive thing about this girls team is the fact that they have solid underclassmen to build around, with two transfers who could potentially be starting right now. I personally cant wait to see this team come tourney time, and next year, the future is bright for these ladies. Maybe all the hype was centered around the wrong gender....

  20. If you want to see some good basketball Saturday, come at 5:00. The women's team plays good basketball. The skill level is amazing. Laura McCoy hits 3 pointers from the Wells Fargo logo, about 25 feet. The first time I saw her do that I thought "what are you doing ---swish". She has made herself into a good point guard through hard work. She was 6 of 7 from 3 against UALR and the miss was an off balance shot as the clock ran out on the first half. She has improved as much as any UNT athlete I can remember since she was a freshman. We have a young team - 1 senior, and they play hard and are well coached. Petersen makes in-game adjustments and they work. You can see what they are trying to accomplish. If you like basketball, like UNT, you will love this team. Your ticket to the men's game gets you in. Plenty of seats available, sit anywhere.

  21. I have a fully stocked fridge and a child-free weekend. My incentive to stay sober allll day Saturday so I can safely drive up to Denton is pretty much at zero right now. I'll go at 2,500. Lots of season tickets sold before this season began, and those count, right? Actual butts in seats? I'm going 1,800. We were all correct on one thing early in the fall. We predicted that this would be a historic basketball season for UNT, and brother, we weren't kidding!

  22. Here is the deal. We all agree these players are very talented. Would they have struggled shooting the ball under another coach? Quite possibly. BUT, and this is huge with this team, defense and rebound is all about effort. Both areas have been pathetic this year. Remember, these are areas that Benford said were his and his staff's focus coming into this season. So, either Benford's system has completely F'ed up this team both defensively and on the boards or the players just aren't putting forth the effort and don't care about winning and losing. And I'm going to yell this because its important: EITHER WAY, THIS IS THE COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HEAD COACH. If you can't motivate your players to give a damn about winning and losing, that is on you as a coach. If the players don't understand your system, that is on you as a coach. If the players are 4 months into your system and still can't figure out how to rotate on defense, that is on you as a head coach. As you know, I had basketball smart company with me Saturday night. Very impressed with the women's coach. Was shocked at the fact that, even though we had better athletes, we were completely out coached by a terrible ULM. Lack of movement on offense and lack of desire on defense and rebounding were his main observations. But now Benford can blame injuries, and we will have to go through another 10 or less win season next year that will destroy this program. Also, watch for mass transfers at year end.

  23. This is a good post. My response is that the shooting from this team is beyond terrible. I have heard from people that have attended practices that they do practice shooting and actually shoot well. This has not translated to the games at all. The coaches don't shoot. Yes, they are supposed to prepare the players and get them game ready. Several times this year it appears this has not happened. The players on the court are the ones struggling to make baskets. The players need to find a leader among themselves to take charge during the game. I have not seen anyone really do this, save Roger at times. This season is such a disappointment so far. I really hope something breaks UNT's way and we get on a roll. We'll be there Saturday for both games to cheer them on regardless

  28. Maybe part of the reason occupancy rates are so low is that there is nothing to drive people to the sleepy little town of Denton other than the few events at the TMS and the OU/TX game. I suspect the old hotel was saddled with the expense of trying to maintain the golf course. After UNT took the golf course off the hotel's hands, it was going to cost millions of dollars to remodel the hotel to bring it up to par and the hotel management company couldn't afford to make the needed enhancements. So, UNT took over the lease and the building was eventually demolished.

  29. He's an exceptional player but I believe that we need defensive linemen and receivers before we need cornerbacks and running backs. If we lose on Antoine I wonder if Dean could become a FBS receiver? But, if it comes down to Dean vs. Walker or Smart give me the defensive lineman.

  30. Wow...just wow! I know UALR tends to hold team scoring down, but how does a team just stop scoring in the final quarter of a game? That is two games in a row where these guys just forgot how to shoot at the end. Man, how do these things keep happening? Most over hyped UNT team in all my history with the program. Expectations obviously set way too high, but that doesn't make it suck any less. Really feel bad for the team. I know they go out wanting and expecting to win. This must be even tougher on the payers and coaches as it is on the fans. Man, UNT needs some shooting and a win or two ASAP! I'll be there've Saturday for the S Ala game.....hoping that the team breaks out of this funk and gets the W. Hope to see you there!

  32. Problem here is that this is not a generality...it happened to this kid...because other kids change their minds has nothing to do with this kid. Tough luck for this kid...just hope he lands somewhere else...if not UNT then hopefully somewhere in the Big XII so he can try to stick it to Kingsbury and Tech. Yep, it happens, it is nothing new...but it shouldn't happen and it sucks for this kid. My prediction...he will land somewhere and he will be fine. Probably best for him if this is the way Kingsbury wants to run his program.

I'm sure they'll get right on allowing me to show up so that I can ask the tough penetrating questions. Tell me, since you believe that NOBODY should be fired for lack of performance...if DPD decides to let me go because I didn't show up to work, will you pump some sunshine up their asses on my behalf? I know, why don't you suggest to them that I was underperforming because they didn't throw more money at me? You know, a few of them are NT grads. Don't miss your chance to tell them how our sports teams are underperforming because they're not writing checks. Oooor, you could finally come to the realization that a great many people are frustrated...don't give a rat's ass about your browbeating...and will continue to vent on a FAN MESSAGE BOARD, despite your silly protestations. I don't respond to you because I dislike you. I think you're swell. Silly, but swell. I respond because it amuses me to see you perpetually trot out the same company line as if an "S" is gonna magically appear on your chest and you'll get a cookie at the next quarterly meeting (those still happen, right?).
