  1. The season is less than 82 days away. Think about what you were doing 82 days ago...Wednesday, March 21, 2012. That's how close the taste is to New Season Flavor. Lament the past no longer, my friends, the future is ahead of us; it's always ahead of us.

  9. Nothing against Drew Smith, but... I thought we were going after dual threat QBs to run this offense? Drew Smith may be a fine undersized pro style QB, but I thought both Mac and Chico said we were moving away from this type of athlete? Kinda confusing.

  11. Hunter has no idea what he's talking about. The Denton CVB could give you a dozen reasons to do business in Denton beyond UNT. Why do you think Denton does millions of dollars a year in direct hotel spending. And Gralevine isn't jus some suburban Tourism market, they've grown themselves into a full-scale tourism destination. The tourism industry is a highly segmented industry and the small meeting market (1,000 or less) is a big part of the industry.

  12. Thanks Gray, Clarification , in football only, Division I was further subdivided in 1978 into Division I-A (the principal football schools) and Division I-AA;these were renamed "Football Bowl Subdivision" and "Football Championship Subdivision" in 2006. NCAA does not use the terms "major" and "mid-major" to differentiate between Division I athletics conferences. Division I contains 346 institutions. So what is a mid major?
    1 point
  13. I"m trying to remember which conferences were falling all over themselves to get Louisiana into the fold. Big East? They do fit into the the Big East's Continental North American footprint. On a side note, I'm wondering why the Big East hasn't invited the Canadian college football programs in the conference.

  14. NCAA does not use the terms "major" and "mid-major" to differentiate between Division I athletics conferences. Calling a conference a mid-major is like calling someone a short-tall person. But, what would you expect from a minor-major sports outlet like the Bleacher Report. This is no minor league in the NCAA Division 1.

  19. Hunter,Excellent point! If you look what other suburbs including Frisco, Grapevine, etc. have achieved, it is frustrating to see where Denton stands in the scheme of things. With two major universities, rail mass transit, the convergence of two major major interstate highways, Denton should be the cultural and intellectual center of the metroplex. Denton is the gateway to metroplex from the north, yet Denton does not offer anything to encourage people to stop and explore. Denton, has so much potential. This why an outside developer is willing to invest $85 million on a major hotel/restaurant complex.

Gonna be tough to prove the charges stemming from what Mcquerey witnessed and what the janitor witnessed. They are probably only included so that Mcquerey can testify to show a pattern of behavior.

  21. Addendum: Maybe there are some things in the works, development wise, that I'm not aware of. My main point is that the other "suburbs" (eg. Grapevine) have made themselves a very attractice place to come and visit for locals and out-of-towners. True, the airport is right there, but Denton is the convergence of two major interstate highways for Peats sake! Like it or not, Denton. Growth is coming. Make the most of it.

  22. If he has got the skills to excel at this level, I'm not worried about his size at all as long as he's legitimately around six feet. Of course those speed numbers could be an issue if the higher number is close to being accurate.,
    1 point
  23. With that size and speed, his potential at DE is also intriguing. Which ever one the guy wants to play is OK by me.
    1 point
  24. I haven't seen him but based on stats and the opinion of others I'd say it's doubtful. He completed just over half of his passes ly and at least was a +5 on td's over ints. Height and speed less than desired.

  25. If he would be eligible for 2013, it would be a big relief for me. Losing Power after this season is going to be a pretty big blow, I'm not sure the younger TE's we have on the roster will ever be as good of a blocker as Power is. Barnett would be at the very least a capable replacement from day one with a much higher ceiling.

  32. The dashboard camera is unblinking. But when gun laws are passed that allow citizens to protect themselves, there is always an outcry from anti-Second Amendment folks that law-abiding citizens will somehow take the law to the extreme and turn society into the Wild West. That's what they argued when Texas allowed conceal carry permits. They said fender benders at 4-way stop signs would escalate into a shootout. They said children would be slaughtered at amusement parks if someone accidentally stepped on someone's foot. They said the streets of Texas would run with blood. None of that happened, quite the contrary. Glen White, former president of the Dallas Police Association said "All the horror stories I thought would come to pass didn't happen. No bogeyman. I think it's worked out well, and that says good things about the citizens who have permits. I'm a convert." It truly underscores the difference between the right and the left... specifically, that people on the left do not trust their fellow citizens to behave in a responsible manner and as such require government supervision and guidance on all things, even if it requires stripping such a fundamental human right as Self-Defense.

  34. The hotel/convention center will have amenities for a convention that are simply not available on campus. If anyone has attended an out of town convention will appreciate the convenience of a hotel, a restaurant, and a lounge connected to the convention center.
    1 point
  35. Maybe just a little. This is probably not the most compelling argument. But, it is true that UNT has schedule conventions and events outside of Denton due to a lack of adequate facilities. I think we both agree that this project will be a big economic boost. I also believe that building the convention center can be a first step in increasing the needed cooperation between the City and the University. Building a convention center at the proposed location will result in the city having a vested interest in the streets, facilities and traffic flow near UNT sport venues and facilties on the west side of I-35.

  36. Sigh.. so we have a case here with a completely different set of facts, but people want to be snarkey and act like it's all the same. It's not, and it is intellectually dishonest to act like it is.

  41. SECTION 1. IC 35-41-3-2, AS AMENDED BY P.L.189-2006, SECTION 1 (i) A person is justified in using reasonable force against a public servant if the person reasonably believes the force is necessary to: (1) protect the person or a third person from what the person reasonably believes to be the imminent use of unlawful force; (2) prevent or terminate the public servant's unlawful entry of or attack on the person's dwelling, curtilage, or occupied motor vehicle; or (3) prevent or terminate the public servant's unlawful trespass on or criminal interference with property lawfully in the person's possession, lawfully in possession of a member of the person's immediate family, or belonging to a person whose property the person has authority to protect. (j) Notwithstanding subsection (i), a person is not justified in using force against a public servant if: (1) the person is committing or is escaping after the commission of a crime; (2) the person provokes action by the public servant with intent to cause bodily injury to the public servant; (3) the person has entered into combat with the public servant or is the initial aggressor, unless the person withdraws from the encounter and communicates to the public servant the intent to do so and the public servant nevertheless continues or threatens to continue unlawful action; or (4) the person reasonably believes the public servant is: (A) acting lawfully; or ( engaged in the lawful execution of the public servant's official duties. (k) A person is not justified in using deadly force against a public servant whom the person knows or reasonably should know is a public servant unless: (1) the person reasonably believes that the public servant is: (A) acting unlawfully; or ( not engaged in the execution of the public servant's official duties; and (2) the force is reasonably necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to the person or a third person. As a police officer, it does not bother me. People who are breaking the law are going to try and kill me no matter what. If you take the time to read this, it will say "REASONABLE PERSON". Most reasonable people aren't going to assume that officers walking around are using unlawful force. That is why we wear those uniforms and badges. To Identify ourselves. When we go to a house, we announce ourselves. Bad guys don't need a law to shoot at us, they will do so no matter what. If you look at the reasoning behind the law, there was a hypothetical of an individual raping someone's daughter or wife. Before the law, one could not take action agasint the officer. THAT was the reasoning behind the law. To me, I think it is extreme and overkill, but the law doesn't read any different to me. In Texas, you can use reasonable force to resist unlawful actions. Move along, nothing to see here. Take the anti gun, anti conservative, anti NRA rants somewhere else.
