Let me get this straight. We're going to have a pillow fight in bikinis with burlap sacks in a forest wearing darth vader masks. Is this what guys who post on message boards fantasize about?4 points

Enjoy. I wish I had enough to give each of you. I am thinking about brewing a batch for every home game with customized labels if there is enough interest. JRock3 points

As if everyone didn't already realize it, I like WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS! I believe I was the first to add the exclamation mark and indicate that it was a statement and not a question. So, unbiased I am not. I have been accused (rightly so) of being a big time "homer" when it comes to the Mean Green and I wear that claim proudly. You can read doubt in the phrase if you want, but that's simply one's opinion. To me it indicated that the Mean Green can realize it's goals in becoming a championship program from top to bottom and that people should stop thinking (and saying) that the Mean Green is anything less than a top notch program. It's all positive in my opinion, and was first mentioned by none other than Coach McCarney himself. It's time all alums and fans and friends of the Mean Green stop thinking about the Mean Green in any terms other than as a "Champagne Program" (used by RV). So, WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED! Why NOT North Texas as SunBelt Champion? Why Not North Texas as a Bowl Champion? Why Not North Texas as a destination for 4 and 5 star recruits? Why Not North Texas as a university with the finest athletic facilities? Why Not North Texas as a Tier One university? There is absolutely no reason North Texas cannot be that program and that university. It's time for all alums , fans and friends to start believing, talking and acting like they are proud of being a member of the great Mean green Nation. As an alum and a fan, I don't take a back seat to any other university...WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS INDEED! So, just me being a "homer" and loving it. I am proud to be a member of the Mean Green nation and I don't mind telling anyone that I am!3 points

You don't have a spouse who is a "Type A" controlling/planning freak, do you?  Yes, a LOT of people have started to plan, and as a MG Club member I have friends who know I am still involved at UNT and are bugging me all the time for information that they simply cannot get from the AD.3 points

Don't many schools have closed fall practices and scrimmages ? I'm sure that coach Mac has good reasons to close practices and scrimmages to the public.3 points

Give me a Feldt before this guy. Nothing like hauling in a big O or Dline guy. I agree with SilverEagle.2 points

You know, I don't get as excited about skill players as other people. Keep in mind that our greatest WR in recent history was a walk-on. Patrick Cobbs was not a high profile RB coming out of HS. And the most recent report from camp is that Jeremy Brown (a walk-on) is pretty much tearing it up.....much like he did in spring. Please keep in mind that the best RB's are only as good as the line blocking for them.2 points

The wing seats would be the best option bc they are general admission. IMO they should do what they did with Former President George Bush. They gave students a free ticket but they had to go in the union and get it. IMO that would be the best situation just to see how many students will be attending and they would receive a ticket to keep2 points

AA- 2 tackles & 1 sack in Minnesota 20-7 win over Seattle. PC-6 rushes for 19 yards, 1 reception for 23 yards, and 1 special team tackle in New Orleans 14-27 loss to Houston.2 points

Thank you Classic. Here is a lousy photo of the bit on Boomer in Texas Monthly. I think it's crazy good that he made the top 10? Rick2 points

What a great time to be on board! And finally some freedom from the wife! Oops... But really, we have a great group of coaches who will get these players to play very hard and maximize their athletic ability, we have an incredible stadium and facilities, and we have an overall energized fan base. This is going to be fun, and i believe those of us who've been here through the good, bad, and ugly can feel good about where everything is, or at the very least, the direction things are headed.2 points

Am I in a GMG relationship with CBL? Remember I'm new and don't understand at which point these things become official... I mean he hasn't been too active around here lately to give me guidance.2 points

Great to see Boomer as #8. FFR has put in tons and tons of work over many years. Without Rick, there would be no Boomer. Boomer is a tradition we can all count on and love. Boomer is a treasure and unique to UNT. I cannot wait to hear how loud Boomer is going to be in Apogee stadium, and I hope they have to get lots and lots of powder as UNT will be scoring a lot of TD's this year. GO BOOMER...thanks Rick.2 points

With about 20 days until we open the new stadium against Houston, is the Mean Green commercial still airing? Will the athletic department increase the number of spots? Any new UNT football commercials?1 point

I definately see Chaz playing this year, just like you cant coach speed with Chancellor, you cant coach height with Chaz.1 point

Negative. I have seeing the stadium up close and those 18,000 fans are going to be on top of the players yelling like heck to get the Panthers to New Orleans. They feel robbed from last year and they went and won a bowl game. Their bookstore was well stocked with cool Panther gear and their was an exciting buzz on the campus when I was there in February. I can imagine the first week of school with a nationally televised game in the middle of the week. North Texas is going to have its hands full make no doubt about it. Panther pride is at an all time high. I get weekly Panther gear promotions from somehow signing up for their digest. This environment will most likely be like a game at TCU with half the crowd - intense and on top of the players. It will be fun and our Mean Green can still win out there, but those students and fans will be geeked and ready to start their march to New Orleans. GMG1 point

Don't let the debate derail you from working on a North Texas idea. Rarely does an idea meet with total agreement with the masses. The most vibrant and enthusiastic voice in years of Mean Green Football thinks enough of the "WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS!" phrase to use it publicly. Whose opinion do you value more....Coach Mac or Silver Eagle and others in this thread?1 point

North Texas' Boomer The Cannon comes in at #8. http://www.texasmonthly.com/preview/2011-09-01/feature "Boomer the Cannon It is believed to be the only seven-eights scale smooth-bore muzzle-loaded cannon used at a college football game in the country. Yeah, we don't know exactly what that means either, but we do know one thing from experience: Boomer is loud. Alas, the deafening blasts rang a little hollow last season, which UNT finished without any home wins. But with a new head coach and stadium, perhaps this year it'll discharge some joyous booms"---BDS Has a nice little photo in there as well. Rick1 point

I would say that any coach finishing in the top 25 consistently is a great coach. The Big 12 was a monster conference during his time there so he did a great job. I only wish NT could have a coach that was that 'bad ' If he really does end up at FAU to replace Capt Kangaroo ...the Belt will have a great coach in the league (not to take away anything from the current Belt coaches)1 point

I think the DEPT was waiting to see how many MGC members there were before assigning parking. At least that is my guess. They probably had to see how many $250 level donors there were before committing to new stadium parking? Just a guess. And the parking passes are printed for each game plus they must be copy proof since they don't get scanned. I think it is better that they waited to get it right rather than field complaints later on.1 point

Now that I work in Lewisville, I am planning on heading up to Denton to the watch party at the stadium. For those in Denton that commute to Dallas for work - how bad is the traffic from Lewisville to Denton around 6pm?1 point

Had to pick the last option. I'll be out of town at a speaking engagement, so about the best I can hope for is to catch the first quarter or so of Hank and Jub's broadcast streaming at the hotel room.1 point

From Vito's article on Offensive game plan... http://www.dentonrc....0.e0af8a89.html "UNT averaged 33.8 points in the final five games of last year after Canales took over as interim head coach. UNT averaged just 16.9 points in the seven games before Todd Dodge was fired." This is the most encouraging thing about retaining Coach Canales, although part of the mental lift last year when he was interim HC was him being emotional. I haven't seen that from him since last season, he seems sorta quiet this year. And yes, the last scrimmage was today at 10am. A missed opportunity to promote MGC with admittance.1 point

Give Vito a break, he's not allowed in. It's hard to report on something that you're not allowed to know about. Yes, I would LOVE more information, videos, articles, and updates. However, if keeping this stuff secret helps us surprise a few teams early on and catch them off guard (which I think is what McCarney & staff want and I think will work), then I am all about it. Just a few more days, gentlemen. You'll see the Mean Green in full force soon enough. GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

And I didn't mean it to sound so negative. I did say that money staying in the program was a positive thing. But there is no doubt that the benefits are getting wittled down - no more gameday party deck, reduction of gift value. Maybe one can look at it that the gifts used to be really nice in an effort to get people to stick around. My post was intended to be just an observation of how things are changing at UNT. Policies will be changing as well. 99% of it is for the better and the other 1%... well, we will all just get used to it. GMG1 point

Hey guys, I love the podcasts. I just noticed something today - my Apple TV has your podcasts in the search! How awesome is that? For some reason the episodes stop at #39 in 2008... any ideas on if you changed something around July/Aug of 2008 that would take the podcoasts out of a national database? Just curious. Thanks for your hard work - I love these.1 point

Should the punctuation at the end be a question mark or an exclamation mark?.... I say "WHY NOT NORTH TEXAS!" should end in an exclamation mark as we are trying to make a statement rather than ask a question.1 point

Its just stupid to laugh at someone else when youre doing the same thing, even if it is SMU It would make more sense to say "It looks like SMU is getting a little jealous of our season ticket sales this year, now the AD is stepping in."1 point

---The more you post the more it shows you don't understand... there is no tenure in Texas public schools ....maybe some districts somewhere (none I know of). I do know of several educators who have been let go because of poor performance. Just because of some sectors having a bad time doesn't mean others including education should lay people off. [ besides Texas supposedly has the BEST economy in America... employment in my town is so high they are having trouble finding people to fill jobs, partially because there is little affordable housing to put people in who want to move here] ---How can the state with the best economy have one of the three worse budget problems... it may make sense to you but not to most people. Educators and kid's education will suffer. Other Governors and Legislature sessions managed to do ok with a lesser economy. ---hmmmm... No property tax... you want a STATE income tax instead???. ... I don't.... The money must come from somewhere..... We already have the highest sales tax because of no income tax. ..1 point

"Throwing money" is one thing... cutting hundreds of thousands of teachers and programs is entirely another. It's not a zero sum game, education.1 point
-
I think Screaming Eagle is right, Side Show. I'm right there with you on your points, but they do not justify budget cuts. I think we can all agree that these cuts do not solve the problem, and the more resources we have available for education, the better.1 point
-
--Obviously you are NOT in education..... our budgets have been cut regularly for years..... college tuition has rapidly climbed because of him and the Legislature..... local taxes are worse because of less state funding so locals have to pick it up.... and he has vetoed so many things that he said he supported.... [guess he didn't think the legislature would pass them and make a liar out of him] He even cut all health insurance from community college staffs [ even most of the legislature was appalled by it, it had been in the state budget for YEARS} ... The state doesn't give a huge support to community colleges, local taxes do. Community colleges lessen the burden on the state because of local funding.... then he decided to eliminate our insurance..... UNT etc. is all state money, plus tuition, donations... no local financial support. --He is the worst governor for education EVER... includes Briscoe and Mark White. Also the State Parks in Texas are now a mess as well... one of his budgets provided ONE new pickup for the ENTIRE state park system. There are a lot more reasons to dislike him including the Spanish Highway project he wanted..... just read and listen. He is conservative, I agree... very conservative... too conservative... I guess not changing your car's oil and not paying your light bill is conservative too...... but it isn't smart.1 point

That's what we need. A C/D student with an elementary level understanding of the economy, whose response to the debt is to just sell everything (i.e bridges, parks, roads etc) to corporations and have them run things like that. This guy is a joke, Obama will make him look terrible in a debate, should make for excellent TV.1 point
