  1. We made the trek out to Ft Worth from Plano for the game. A few thoughts: Not my first trip to the arena, but Dickies is a very nice midsized arena. I know we weren't supposed to like The Star, but even with the upper levels curtained off, Dickies feels cavernous with no people in it. Takes away the energy in a bit, even more than an empty Super Pit. This Mean Green Women's BB team attempts to play a fast-paced offense that we haven't seen in years of watching Mens BBall with Hodge and Mac before that. The Mean Green Women's fast-paced offense sometimes feels totally out of control. I am not a BBall savant, but their ball-handling skills cannot keep up with the pace of the offense they are attempting to play. The Rice defense appeared to shut down our offense at times, especially when we made sloppy passes through traffic in the middle that lacked power. It was clear who could sink 3s from the Rice team. I think it was #11 and #3 (I might have the second number wrong; I think she was a blondish white girl). We frequently left them open at the top of the arc, and they frequently scored from those positions. When the pace seems to get out of control, Burton needs to call a Timeout. There were a few times when we were perfectly fine letting the whole game get fast and sideways, but a simple timeout would have brought the pace to zero and given us time to reset. Burton gives Littrell vibes in this regard. You don't get extra points for saving your timeouts or having so many at the end that you just call them one after another in the final seconds. I feel for the women's team and understand the gravity of a 3-way tie winning the regular season and looking like you're going to go out in the first game in the Conf Tourney. Still, you GOTTA pull it together in the clutch final seconds of a winnable basketball game. Burton needs to find a way to bring the mental fortitude of the team up for next season. Great job, Women's team. I say that sincerely, and I also acknowledge and apologize for how easy it is for all of us to be Monday Morning Quarterbacks. I'm excited for the years ahead! Regroup, improve, mature, and recruit great in the offseason, and we will only see greater successes next season.

  2. 100% agreed. She’s been incredible all season.

  3. Karma. Watch the previous game at Rice. Kernal was flexing, posing and talking smack to their student section/football team. Came back to bite her. Doesn’t all fall on her though. Too careless with the ball all game and too many mental mistakes. Hats off to Rice. Good news, we aren’t done yet.

  4. This team was not ready to play and that is on the coach. I can understand the emotions, this team has played well most of the season and is beaten by a weak team in the game that counted the most. Look at the positive, this team was not going anywhere in the big Dance, and now they will end up in a tournament they have a much better chance for wins.

  5. Men take note! Come to win! Bring the focus and defense! See what happened to the ladies Monday night!

  6. Feel bad for Kernal. Those 2 missed FTs didn't lose the game but her meltdown was surprising from a senior. This team wouldn't have tied for the conference title without her.

  7. Big choke job by Kernal at the end, but way too many missed free throws and turnovers overall. We had less turnovers in the second half but when we did have them, they were at terrible times.

  8. DesiRay having a full on mental breakdown. Do not understand Burton putting her back in the game.

  11. At the past timeout, the arena played a video highlighting the SMU championship football team, resulting in a loud rain of boos.

  12. I hope I'm wrong, but Morris was an uninspired hire for UNT. Face it. We were pathetic last year.

  13. Yes it hurts but still doesn’t take away from a great season.

  14. Seemed to lack killer focus— too many turnovers and missed free throws. Great season so far- hope we get a WNIT bid. Next season needs — replacing the seniors will be a priority and improved defense.

  15. Morning after and it still hurts. We had a really good path to the NCAA Tournament with Tulsa and Charlotte going down. The only remaining team that had beaten us was UTSA twice, in games we blew. Women follow the same theme as the men, struggle more against the CUSA refugees (5 of their 6 conference losses) than the AAC teams. Proving we belong in this conference.

  16. Good thoughts, I too have really gotten in to WBB this year because of these coaches and the ladies. However, that only adds to the disappointment in this game. Turnover, turnover, turnover, missed free throw, turnover, missed free throw. Add bad defense and Rice looked like world beaters. The physical effort was there for the most part for the Mean Green. However, they looked like the mental effort was missing. Bad quick shots, poor defense and rebounding, it looks like they were more interesting in who scored than winning a game in which they were heavily favored in.

  19. Way to many turnovers and gave up 11 offensive rebounds. We should get an WNIT bid. #1 and #2 seed losing the first game of the tournament looks bad for the conference.

  23. Now that the regular season is over I thought it'd be interesting to look back to see how the newbie programs held vs "better" competition... Old Guard SMU - 4-4 Memphis - 3-4 USF - 8-1 Tulsa - 4-5 ECU - 1-7 Tulane - 1-8 Wichita - 3-4 Temple - 3-5 Overall: 27-38 New Guard FAU - 9-2 CLT - 6-5 UAB - 8-3 UNT - 9-2 Utsa - 3-8 Rice - 4-7 Overall: 39-27 I found it funny when their fans started to openly look down their nose at the programs joining the AAC. Well...

  24. I’m not so quick to call Morris a bad hire. He cleaned house after this past season, but it probably should have been when he took the job. This year is his guys. Let’s see what this year brings. I’m a bit more optimistic.

  25. "Uninspired" isn't the word I would use. It was a fairly aggressive, high-risk/high-reward kind of hire. He did some very nice things on the offensive side of the ball. His DC hire looks questionable at best, and one bad hire can undo a lot of good. But maybe Caponi can get things moving in the right direction this year. If so, we could realistically be an AAC contender in '25. Probably not what a lot of people were hoping for when we replaced a coach who may well have been able to do the same, but I'll take it if it works out that way.

  26. This is offensive. Defending a woman takes away her right to defend herself. It suggests that women are inherently weaker than men and incapable of self-defense.

  27. Despite not playing a good game, we still had a great chance to win it at the end. Hopefully this team gets some type of postseason tournament. They’re too good to end the season this way.

  28. "tough to beat a team 3 times in one year" is more coach speak than meant as a truism, with the intent to keep the players focused and not slack when facing an opponent they have already beat twice. And, stating the obvious, we can lose to Tulane if we are not focused.

  29. Lets just assume we go 1&1 in AAC tournament finishing 18 &14 . Texas and T.C.U. tied for 7th in Big 12 with conference records of 9&9 and season records of 20&11. Who stays home, UNT or them?

  31. I am back home and not close enough to attend, but I did attend their game against Memphis last week. I hadn't attended a woman's game since I was in school. This team is fun to watch, plays hard, loves playing together and never give up. If you can make it, do yourself a favor and go support these women. They deserve it and you will be entertained.

  33. And Tulane's nowhere the same spot in the conference standings that LA Tech was two years ago, but it's still tough as hell to beat a team three times in a year.

  36. You guys are talking sense. This a tough league and that’s what we wanted. We are sitting here with an opportunity that we wanted and now we have to rise. It’s kind of like we got a promotion to a better job and we’ve been working our way through it and now it’s time to just say we are gonna get it done. We are finally healthy again, I know depth is a problem, but it’s not impossible to win it. But I don’t look at this season as a disappointment. There’s been a lot to work through. Do I look at it as a success? No. But seeing through clear eyes it’s also not a disappointment. The way these guys fight and the way they play and dig so deep and care…they really REALLY care. Damn do these dudes care. And I want to pause here in this thought for a minute because that has become so very rare for kids to really care. Players don’t have this much heart very often anymore. Aaron Scott is on my mind as I type this. He is a fighter. I know he goes too far sometimes but he is a total fighter. I guess my point is.. THIS IS OUR PERSONALITY as a fanbase and I’m so glad we have a team that reflects it. Dig deep, fight for every inch. The close losses have sucked so much and we gotta fix that and there’s no other way about it. BUT I am so proud of these guys. They represent who we are so well. This is the sports I’ve wanted for so long.

  37. This is going to be the weirdest offseason we have ever seen with Pay-for-Play (not just NIL) now legal and unlimited transfers. I would not be surprised if we had 100% complete roster turnover this offseason. The good news is that Ross has always been a good recruiter and talent evaluator. And he has been a winner at every job. His JUCO roster-building experience could really come in handy. Hopefully everyone reading this is donating to the Mean Green Collective because it is about to be roster Armageddon across the entire college basketball landscape and we need to give our coach plenty of ammunition.
