In Congress, July 4, 1776 The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world. He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. He has dissolved representative houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people. He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the legislative powers, incapable of annihilation, have returned to the people at large for their exercise; the state remaining in the meantime exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within. He has endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migration hither, and raising the conditions of new appropriations of lands. He has obstructed the administration of justice, by refusing his assent to laws for establishing judiciary powers. He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries. He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislature. He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to civil power. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation: For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us: For protecting them, by mock trial, from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabitants of these states: For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world: For imposing taxes on us without our consent: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury: For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses: For abolishing the free system of English laws in a neighboring province, establishing therein an arbitrary government, and enlarging its boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule in these colonies: For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments: For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us. He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people. He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the head of a civilized nation. He has constrained our fellow citizens taken captive on the high seas to bear arms against their country, to become the executioners of their friends and brethren, or to fall themselves by their hands. He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare, is undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions. In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people. Nor have we been wanting in attention to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, enemies in war, in peace friends. We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by the authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare, that these united colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do.   4. The guys relish the opportunity to beat Texas. Don't think for a moment they wouldn't like to win one in Austin. Keep doing what we've been doing. Keep giving them the opportunity to raise the bar. We've earned respect, for sure, but if this means JJ is gonna keep trying to shoot higher, then I'm all for it.

  9. It was pointed out to me by the great SUMG that the recent edition of The North Texan lists under upcoming events a watch party for UNT at FIU game on Thursday Sept. 1.... Mean Green vs. Florida International Watch Party: Come to UNT's new Mean Green Stadium Sept. 1 to watch the first football game of the season as the Mean Green plays FIU in Miami. I believe this game will be broadcast on ESPN3 (webcast). Will there be local TV too, anyone know?

I'll ignore the troll and I hope you guys do too because as the game gets closer and more UH fans show up here to talk about the game, I guarantee he will post more and more negative UH posts as he does on every board he's ever posted on. I've been on this board for a while now and you guys have seen that I support UH, but that I'm starting to follow UNT more as a second school to enjoy since I lived in Denton for 3 years and have lived in Providence Village for 8. I love college football and it's great to have a team so close to enjoy. This guy riles me like few others. That's what trolls do and obviously I'm falling for his bait. It's just hard when you see someone with no stake in the game to bash your school over and over. I hope I continue to have great football chats with all of you real UNT fans.

  16. Per the athletic development staff weekday games that are on ESPN3 are only shown on streaming video. SBC network games not announced till mid July but that is the only shot for cable. Why wouldn't you want to see it on the big screen in the new stadium??? Much better venue IMHO. Ditch work by 3 to avoid traffic or take the A Train and bum a ride with someone back to metroplex. A far cry from the days when North Texas graduates could come up with a great nickname like Mean Green, (by Sydney Graham), one of it's most recognizable logos (the stylized Eagle by Rick Spears) and it's great battle flag ( by Jim Hobdy). Is our school of art, journalism, and marketing not what they used to be?

I understand the need for money, but if we played teams like Tech at home more often, instead of teams from the SWAC and Southland, we'd have better attendance, and might not need to play these money games. The Tech game last year was great. Name opponent, big crowd, lots of energy, and a win; this is what the public wants. A bunch of home games against a bunch of SWAC teams, only produces a bunch of home wins with low attendance, lower RPI, and a money road game that usually ends in a loss. I'd rather play an equal amount of home and road games, against teams that will play in Denton, that the public will show up to see, and result in better RPI numbers. Lets keep scheduling Tech, OK State, LSU, and add some C-USA schools, like SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Houston, UTEP, Southern Miss, and UAB. I know fans like you and me, will go see UNT play, but unfortunately, I feel the general public needs more incentive to show up.

  24. Interesting concept, but I don't think it's the current MGC members who don't "care enough" to cover the scholarships. They ARE donating and they ARE doing what they can to help cover the costs of scholarships. What is needed is for a lot of the folks who are not MGC members and who do not donate to step up and help as best they can. It's not on the backs of the current members who are helping. It's on those who are not!

  25. I think both sides have valid arguments and stances on things. I'm not one to pick one side and no matter what stick to that ideology even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I think there is usually middle ground and compromise...the world evolves on a daily basis and just being one side without ever regarding the other or others is just something I don't think is good practice. As far as the American's perception of the media....I don't think there is a right answer. For me personally, I don't lean one way if I just watch Fox vs NBC, CNN, ABC etc...I get the information presented to me and try to look at both sides of the argument and try to form my own thoughts. I just wonder if people make too much of what the media has to say whether its conservative or liberal.

  28. Counting on a true freshman to not only start, but produce the numbers Carey did last year is a recipe for disaster. Maybe the answer is on the roster, maybe it isn't. But this isn't the answer. Losing Carey will hurt this team, no if, ands, or buts about it. As for everything you said about the coaching staff, I hope (and think) you are right. Coaching can overcome a lot in this conference, which is why I am still hanging onto hope for a 5 win season.

  30. always personal attacks....you should use some of your energy to humble yourself to look up the information. the difference between you and posters like Silver Eagle, Screaming Eagle and EulessIsMore is that they engage in intellectual conversation and no personal attacks on members and their families. You, CBL, have a history of attacking the person instead of the post.....we call it "Intellectual Bankruptcy." I would much rather sit down and have burgers and beer with Silver, Screamin', and Euless knowing that the conversation would be civil than someone like you who would degerate into personal attacks when they discover that they are wrong. Perhaps one day you will learn that lesson.

  35. This is a copy of TCU's OOC basketball schedule from last season. They had Bradley, SMU, Houston and USC all play in Fort Worth, and they had away games against Tech, Nebraska, Tulsa and Rice. I would expect TCU will be going on the road for return games against SMU, Houston, and USC, if they want them to. I'm sure Tech, Tulsa, and Rice will all give them a return game. I don't expect UNT to bring USC to the Super Pit, but we have a better basketball program then TCU. We should be able to schedule similar teams at home and on the road. They play some SWAC teams but not too many, and the Nebraska game might be a money game, but Nebraska is not Texas.   36. So why don't you go ahead and call UNT fans delusional? How long has it been since UNT has averaged 20k in attendance? So why do they need a 30k seat stadium? The reason: You plan for where you're hoping to go, not where you've been. I'm hoping UNT makes it to where they not only need the 30k seats, but that it also has to expand past that. Based on their history it's going to be tough for them. But I'm not going to call them delusional for building a 30k seat stadium because they're building for the future. Does UH need a 60k stadium this year? No. Will we need it in the next 5 years? Doubtful. But we didn't really need a 30k seat stadium 5 years ago. This season UH probably needs about a 40k seat stadium based on last year's attendance and a linear regression of attendance over the last decade. Instead we'll just sell out all of our games this year which increases season ticket demand in the future which increases overall attendance. So we hope to build 40k soon based on recent goals and projected growth. But you prepare to need 50+k if the growth continues Not that you care about the answer, you're only trying to point out UH negatives, but I'll answer your question for real UNT fans in case they're curious: Regarding UH's stadium funding situation, we're at $51 million of the $120mm without naming rights and without going to the general UH population, still sticking to just the big dollar donors. We need approximately $29mm more to start building. Initial estimates in the independent feasibility study had naming rights estimated at $30mm. That may be high, but I guess it depends on the length of the contract. UCF got $15mm for 15 years in 2006 from Bright House Networks. Supposedly there are 3 bidders currently for UH naming rights. We'll see how that goes. Regarding your question about Coogfans laughing at UNT's stadium? No one has done that. We wish we had a new stadium too. Luckily, UH's needs right now and for the future are larger than what UNT currently needs. We already have a stadium that holds more than 30k (although UNT's is newer and nicer) so we don't need a 30k stadium. We need a larger stadium at a higher cost. If we wanted to build a $78mm stadium, we have enough funding in place to start construction. But we're building a $120mm stadium. It's going to take us some more time. But we will get there, just like UNT got the stadium they needed. I'm sure there are plenty of UNT fans who weren't sure that the day would come when they'd get a new stadium. Congrats to them. I for one am going to enjoy that stadium the 1st game of the season and hopefully more. I may even make the Mean Green Stadium movie night. It sounds like a fun event. And like many UNT fans, I'd love for UH and UNT to start scheduling a home and home series. I think it would be a win-win for both schools. Close enough that fans can travel. Don't have to take 2 for 1 and 3 for 1 series with AQ schools. Screw them. If they won't do a home and home (or even 2 for 1s when you beat them), let them have FCS schools.   43. --- Just my opinion , but if the South had won... I think that Texas would have split off eventually.... Not a lot similarities with the other southern states and not a huge slave population. I doubt that they would have agreed with Richmond or others trying to tell us what to do. There were a lot of people in Texas that did not support it--- recent immigrants, and even Sam Houston. The Denton, Sherman, north Texas area had a lot Southern deserters and dissidents.... so many that Southern army personal would not try to catch them.... outnumbered. There was even a battle near ?Kerrville? between Rebel forces and German settlers who would not join the Confederate army. --- I am very Southern (especially Texan).... and I think the Southern army was better but just had less resources..... but I am glad we didn't win because America would not be what it is today. I agree with what my father always said... it was "a rich man's (slave-owners) war but the poor man's fight". Most in the South did not own slaves (85-90%) but they fought because it was their home were not very fond of those arrogant funny talking people from the north [much more regional accents than today with mass communications] . Some up there still think they are better, smarter, etc. than "those southern hicks". ---Those who claim it was about state rights are trying to gloss over the real reason...slavery... no doubt there were other issues but slavery and the economic system it supported was #1. The war started after Lincoln was elected but had not been inaugurated.... it was no secret he opposed slavery.... and they feared what would happen.

Absolutely...I think I said the "root cause" or some-such wording...but that was in response to the people who try to create a whole laundry list of causes to supersede slavery, or, as ee has done so satirically (hilarious stuff, BTW) to attempt to lessen or downplay the significance of the slavery issue. I, and a large number of respected Civil War historians, believe that the slavery issue was the elephant in the room that fired on Ft. Sumter. All other issues (state's rights, economics, demographics, cultural differences, etc) are either secondary or have the common thread of slavery woven throughout.

  47. I think you'll find most Coog fans to be friendly and reasonable, especially if you're friendly and reasonable. If you're a jerk, especially on an opponent's site, you can expect the same to be returned. There will be exceptions as there are with every fan base, but if you show respect with Coog fans, you'll get it from most in return.
