Brown could be back by C-USA slate

One could see the handwriting on the wall yesterday at practice and now UNT has made it official: Defensive end Quenton Brown has a torn ACL.

UNT already knew Brown was done for the spring. Now the team knows the JUCO defensive end won’t be back for summer, fall camp or the beginning of the season, either.

The hope is he can be ready to go for the start of the Conference USA season. UNT opens its first year in the league at Tulane on Oct. 5

That would be about a six-month turnaround, which would be pretty aggressive. Brown was injured in UNT’s first spring scrimmage.

“It’s realistic to get him back for conference play,” McCarney said. “He won’t be back for nonconference. He has a great attitude about it right now.”

UNT has had a really bad run of injuries on its defensive line and is looking for ways to adjust.

UNT will just have to get by the rest of spring.

One thing Brett touched on is Daryl Mason and I would love to get an updated height and weight on him. He seems a LOT bigger than when he arrived. Also interested in how Mac sees Dilonga progressing.

Can our trainers please talk to the guys that worked with AP and RG3 to find out the program they got those guys on?

Don't think this university is going to pay to have Dr. Andrews operate on Brown's knee.

EDIT: an idea: approach Dr. Andrews and ask him to take on Brown's injury as kind of a sports charity case. Since UNT can't afford anything, Dr. Andrews could do Brown's knee as the 1st philanthropic sports surgery of his career, and then continue to do one every year for other poor sports programs that sustain injuries. Next year could be a player from Savannah State, the year after a player from Bacone College. I mean, who doesn't like Bacon, right?

Just brainstorming...
