Regents to hear athletics proposals

Recommended Posts

We mentioned a while back that the UNT board of regents would hear a series of proposals that could have a dramatic impact on the future of the school’s athletics program.

Those meetings are taking place as we speak.

Among the proposals on the agenda are …

– Increasing the athletic fee UNT students pay by $1 a semester credit hour, a move that would pump some much-needed money into the school’s athletics program.

Note:  I moved this to basketball as the funding would help renovate the Super Pit.

I wonder if this is tied to the Super Pit construction because of the way the fee was approved by the Texas legislature.   Still don't understand why NT's fees are tied to facilities when no other university in Texas seems to have the same restrictions.

Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley denied reports late this week that he is a candidate for the UNT head coaching job.
Riley’s name came up late this week as a coach UNT could be interested in talking to about taking the place of Dan McCarney, who was dismissed earlier this season.
Riley fits the profile of the type of coach UNT is looking for. He is a younger, offensive-minded coach who is a Texas native and has Texas ties. Here’s his Oklahoma bio.

What was long seen as a foregone conclusion became official this week. Andrew McNulty will start at quarterback for UNT when the Mean Green open the season at SMU.
There are a lot of UNT fans who are not particularly pleased. I get that.
Western Kentucky has one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football in Brandon Doughty, Louisiana Tech has a former five-star player who looked like a star in Week 1 in Jeff Driksel and UTSA seems to have a freshman with potential in Blake Bogenschutz, who just so happens to be former high school teammates with UNT wide receivers Tee Goree and O’Keeron Rutherford.
UNT has a guy who many hoped would come in and win the job in DaMarcus Smith. The problem was he missed pretty much the entire offseason and is way too far behind to catch up.
