Update On Athletic Fee Bill

A little defense of Lee Jackson here. He is a quiet guy, but is approachable. I have run into him at Rudy's a couple of times eating breakfast, and he does care about this program. One thing he does not do is paint face and chest green for gameday, but I have seen him at every home game the past few seasons. And guess what? Not up in the box, but in his seat out in the stands, in Section E. He is also listed as a member of the Mean Green Club. He was even in attendance when SMU was playing a home game or two. Also, don't know where this stuff comes from that Dr. B does not support athletics. No, she has not taken to doors armed with a gun at former students' homes to solicit donations, but she is at the majority of all sporting events, and I have seen her at all the coaches' shows (BB and FB) this year and last. Other presidents of universities don't take the helm of athletics as some here expect ours to do (UT, OU, etc) come to mind. They leave that leadership and management to their athletic departments.

I have seen Dr. B at most all big athletic events, banquets, meetings, caravans, and functions, and many out of town. I have never seen L J at any. He may be a great guy and fan, I don't know him. I have never had the opportunity to talk to him. All I do know UNT is still using Fouts and it's athletics department is not funded as it should be since he has been Chancellor.

are these hearings where it is discussed? should this go quick since the students voted for it themselves? then what?

Yes, the committees hear testimony for or against the fee. I don't anticipate any issues and these bills should sail out of committee. Midwestern State, Praire View A&M, and Texas Southern also have athletics fee bills pending in committee.

Once the bills leave committee they go to the full chamber.
