Sloan as one of the best?  I've your comparing golf scores, maybe.

Sloan is the one who first drew up the plans to expand Fouts and move us to 1-A. Without him we'd be playing teams like....Florida International, Florida Atlantic, ULM, etc. cool.gif

RV hasn't even traveled to all the road games with the team this year and wasn't at the troy game either ..... true mean green supporter....

RV was at the Troy game, I saw him up in the suite with Fry. Perhaps you're thinking of the MTSU away game. It was posted he stayed in Denton to prepare for an NCAA briefing that weekend. Get your rumor-facts straight! mad.gif

That may be because he is an Athletic Director not a Football Director. Believe it or not other sports, women's soccer for example, take place at the same time of the year as football games. AD's might need to show up for one or two of those other sports from time to time.

WORST EVER

How could anyone ever forget the greatness that was Richard McDuffie? We canned Corky, then passed over a very interested Joe Green because of this outstandingly committed individual. McDuffie took the job, but never really even moved into his office. There was just too much golf and social life around D/FW for him to be expected to actually work. After several months, people finally wised up to the fact that the guy was getting paid but wasn't doing shinola. He soon announced that he was resigning to take a position as the director of the American Paint Horse Association.

He still lists North Texas on his web page even though he never did a damn thing there.

I worked at the Athletic Department when Sloan took over for Corky. Dennis Parker replaced Corky as head coach a couple of days after Christmas and a few weeks later Sloan took over.

McDuffie was the AD before Corky.

In the White bio we now have new meaning to the term "brief stint." laugh.gif

Word got back to some alums that he thought he had bitten off more than he could chew as AD at UNT. Also heard there may have been some health issues (depression?) but don't quote me on that. Good to see that he is doing well now.

BEAT THE HELL OUTTA' THAT FLA. AIRPORT ! (Hey! We could have a school in the SBC that had the name "textile" in it so things can always be worse). smile.gif

How close were we to losing RV last year?

NMSU Boss Says Boston a Scapegoat

McKinley Boston has found an occupational second chance and an unreserved ally at New Mexico State in his hiring as the school's athletic director.

Boston was introduced Tuesday in Las Cruces as the athletic director. NMSU President Michael Martin chose him over Rick Villarreal, the AD at North Texas.

Martin worked with Boston when both were vice presidents at the University of Minnesota. Four years ago, Boston lost his job (Albuquerque Journal (NM), 774 words. )

Winnowing of AD candidates commences

The search committee for East Carolina’s new athletics director meets this morning and Saturday at a location near the Raleigh-Durham Airport.

The committee, chaired by Stephen Showfety, is scheduled to go into closed session for interviews with candidates. The present intent of the search committee is to narrow the field of prospective ADs to a group of finalists, who will be evaluated by the new chancellor once that position is filled.

Known internal candidates include interim AD Nick Floyd and Dennis Young, executive director of the Pirate Club. Floyd has handled the position with an apparent degree of competence in the six months since Mike Hamrick left to become AD at Nevada-Las Vegas. Floyd also is connected with television and bowl interests from his time in the Conference USA office.

Young, ECU class of 1969, has successfully directed the athletics fund-raising arm at his alma mater since September of 1991. The Pirate Club recently announced new annual goals of $3.7 million in unrestricted gifts and 9,000 members.

Other possible candidates to be interviewed outside the ECU community, according to sources, include former Indiana athletics director Clarence Doninger, Maryland assistant AD Joe Hull, South Carolina Gamecock Club director Jeff Barber, Oklahoma assistant AD Rick Hart, Wichita State AD Jim Schaus and Eastern Illinois AD Rick McDuffie.

Names of possible candidates that surfaced early who had indicated interest in the ECU AD position are retired Air Force AD, Col. Randall W. Spetman, and North Texas AD Rick Villareal.
