Your most memorable NT B Ball Road Trips?

Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis 1990: It was cold as can be but lots to see. NT didn't do well against IU and Marshall in the tournament, but it was the drive up and back that takes the cake. It took Talon90, Greenblood94, GreenBat, one other and myself 12 hours to drive up. But took us over two days including getting stranded at some cheap, roadside roach cabin overnight due to fog, and then trying to come back in one of the worst ice storms to hit the central part of the U.S. during the 90's.

NCAA Tournement in Salt Lake City: Lots of things to see and do but very very cold. Great seats for the price. Lots of tradition.

tU, Austin: Lots to do, great food and classy folks but the seats for the visitors were in the upper levels were a little high for the price. Felt like I was watching a football game we were so far from the floor.

Oklahoma City Tournament: My first experience as Eppy, rowdy fans and easy drive up. Thank you to the OU mascot "Top Dog" for showing me the ropes that weekend. The Mean Green got whipped but everyone had a good time regardless.

SWT/TSU San Marcos: Nice facility, pretty campus, good seats and lots of good food. Also, just like in Denton, lots of eye candy.

TCU: Easy drive, great seats for the price. Good fans. Daniel Meyer is old but a good warm place to watch a game.

UTA: Nothing like taking over the stage and turning it into a homegame. One year UTA officials actually made all wearing green to sit in the loft seats above the floor. Talon90 and myself were eventually escorted out by security because we figured, if they were going to make us sit up there, then we can at least hang our banners over the UTA banners already in place? Not!

Northwestern State, Natchitoches LA: Did I spell that right? Pretty campus, great seats and nice folks. A little too far to drive back then but the highway's are much more improved these days. Haven't been in years.

SFA Nacadoches: Pretty drive, decent facility, great seats and you could never go without meeting someone you knew from back home.

Louisiana Monroe: Nice facility, great seats, easy drive but long. Very abusive fans. They don't like to lose to us, or at least they didn't then. Many of us after one game left with the team down onto the floor and out the back to the parking lot in 1989.

SMU: Biggest crap hole to try to get into including driving there and trying to park. Sorry stuck up people for fans. Sorrier seats for the price. I have never seen us win there but I long for the day when we do.

Any others?

Rick

Fav trip to the Pit was the game in which Emmitt made a certain sign, then myself, and I believe brent and jdub held above the visiting tunnel. We were playing Denver and it was RV's 2nd year and JJ's 1st. Not going to quote the sign, those who were there know what I'm refferring to.

Fav road trip would be the OSU game vs the women in the NIT. Had a ref threaten me, then tell the local smokeys that I was threatening his life. Smokey's were about to arrest me because I was unaware at the time of what the ref had told them. Looking back, it was funny, and it still provides a good laugh for me and the Olsens, but man was my mom pissed. It made for a long trip back home. Talk about the cold shoulder treatment. ph34r.gif

Away games, right FFR?

UT at the Super Drum: Went to a game there a few years ago to support the Green/we got beat, but it was a fun trip for the group I was with. Mexican food was damn good following the game.

SMU at Moody: We got behind quite a bit the first half, but we came back in the 2'nd half before some very disbelieving Mustang fans and we won the game. You could fill their air oozing out of their baloon.

TCU at Daniel Meyer: My former professor at NT, ie, Billy Tubbs was the TCU coach at the time and he had his Frogs runnin' and gunnin'. Took my (then) girl friend's son to the game who proceeded to start yelling for TCU. sad.gif

I made the sign....

Let's just say it honored the tradition of putting the other team away and putting Andy Blount and Rusty Chiles in.

I still have the sign in a closet at my parents' house....saw it there over the Christmas holidays. So classic...so classic.

Wow, three people have attended a road game here? Two of which were getting hammered two days ago for not supporting our teams at home games like some thought they should. That's simply amazing but not surpising. Surely there are more who have gone out of town to attend a road game? I mean, some of y'all have not missed a home game in 2 years, certainly supporting the Mean Green means more to some of you than that?

I've been to a road game, Rick. SMU and TCU. Sorry to destroy your theory. It's a good thing we've helped those schools' attendance. Screw our own. As long as we provide one more BIS for SMU...all is well.

And Rick, how many of those roadtrips were as Eppy?

On more thing to remember, I "haven't been enrolled or even had full-time employment"...yet somehow, I managed to make a few roadtrips without being required to go.

Ya know Rick... I have usually never bashed you for anything. But you need to get off your high and mighty and stop dogging us. We are trying to get something started here. As soon as I see that stupid firefighter helmet at more basketball games, I'll stop speaking out against you. You know its great all the stuff you DID for the university... but cool points do expire pal.

You know what, I didn't start this, but I'll be happy to finish it. Don't attack alumni about a lack of support if you yourself cannot back it up, which is the point in all this. And I don't wear that stupid helmet at the basketball or softball games but I guess I should as it would have helped me find who I needed to give my cash donation to the Pit Crew at the TCU game last December a bit easier than it was. Of course I knew who Gak was right off, no problem in that respects.

And I'm still waiting, what road trip have you attended Mr. Strange?

TCU last year... buddy. Ok, I give up... we should all admit defeat here since your "finishing" this. Guys, lets stop going to the basketball game, FFR has put us in our place... he is super fan and we are nothing. Thanks Rick, now I know that we are nothing to the great Eppy

Does going to road trips make u a better fan???? And we greatly appriecated the donation...And you might be right I or Mr.Strange or any STUDENT probably can't afford to donate like you alumni with real jobs and careers...but damnit I am doing whatever i can for the team and the school with what i have....You may have donated some money for the TCU game....but guess how much came out of some of our pockets....yeah the majority came out of gak's...prolly over 200 bucks out of 400....my only beef is that had it been some tailgate for football....and a collection was taken to fund it....the money would have been there and prolly tons extra so the people at that tailgate didn't have to crink Natty Light...they got the good stuff....PBR.....lol

Alumni support important for this school I am not trying to say it isn't...but students support is JUST as important if not more....

I figured you would have nothing left but a desparate smartass post. Got nothing to back up your great supportive claims and accusations but to dog alumni you know nothing about.

It's a$$holes like yourself, pointing fingers at others and other generations instead of worrying about your own is what brings a program down. Not alumni, at least not Plumm or me or any others on this board. There are thousands of students in and around the pit. Worry about them, not those who came before them.

When you get out of school, if you get out and off of mommy's meal ticket and have to do something other than play with yourself or your playstation we will see how much effort you put into supporting your school. Like I said before, in 2037? If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at JayDub for starting this. Not at me.

I'm still waiting for that road trip memory by the way.

We are worrying about the 1000 or so students outside of the pit...thats why we started pit crew rick....and damnit if I had the funds to give to this school RIGHT NOW...the check would be signed...and as far as 2037....wanna sit next to me at the pit???? cause i will be there....

I have said it numerous times everyone is grateful for everything you do and your friends do...But DONT KNOCK US FOR TRYING TO START SOMETHING NEW...and trying to get the same effin support for basketball that our football team...that is sunbelt good right now and thats it....

Back to playing with myself and my playstaton....I forgot it was thursday! There is a home gasme tonight i have to go play the matchup on PS2 and see how it will end....GTH

Oh and my favorite away game memory...TCU last year with my boy MrStrange....
