As UNT at Frisco looks to the future, it's building a foundation of connection and intention today

For Nema Kolta, there are spots around Frisco Landing that hold a collection of memories.

There’s the outdoor amphitheater area where she, her cohort and others threw colors at each other as part of a Holi celebration. There are the second-floor hub rooms that have become her favorite study spot on campus. There’s the front desk where she’s worked and gotten to know the faces of UNT at Frisco.

“Just observing the building, you see so many different conversations happening and people getting to know and meet new people with these events and things like that,” Kolta said. “It’s very people oriented.”

This month marks one year since the official opening of Frisco Landing, the first permanent building on the UNT at Frisco campus. This past week, the campus commemorated the milestone by creating a one-year anniversary time capsule that will be opened in 2073. Complete with a UNT at Frisco mug, a gubernatorial proclamation from the January 2023 ribbon cutting, a collection of photos, a UNT at Frisco ribbon and even a commemorative copy of The Frisco Enterprise, the capsule tells the story of the campus in the present.

Looking ahead, the impacts of UNT’s presence in Frisco are yet to be determined. But a look at the campus’s culture and mindset today gives a window into the campus’s possibilities for the future.
