  3. I think it's a construction term. When pouring concrete to build curbs, one doesn't want have to wait on the concrete. thereby, being,"ahead of the curb." He probably "could care less." Because it's, "a doggy dog world."

  4. Peddling religion... your bias here is obviously against Mormonism and not the young man himself. Plus isn't riding a bike a sport? Those backpacks look heavy and Texas gets hot.

  5. Don’t get so up in arms, it’s a mild risk, if he doesn’t pan out, it’s no big deal, if he does, great. Mason will be fine when he gets here but we will have a RS Jr in Pearson, 2 RS sophomores in Martin and Bean, plus a RS Fr from the ‘19 class (Holgorsen?) and whoever else we might take at QB in the ‘20 class. This isn’t as bad a risk as you seem to think. This kid would have to be a phenomenal player to even see PT here.

  8. You can skew data easily in this kind of debate. No doubt La Tech and most peer schools have had more historical success than NT. NT also has a lot of advantages over La Tech: Denton vs Ruston, significantly larger athletic budget, much broader academic opportunities, and unless La Tech has greatly enhanced their facilities; NT has a big edge. Look at the CUSA Florida twins, both are recruiting at a very high level despite an horrible historical success rank. I believe that all that is secondary to the ability of a staff to sell program. Examples abound of coaches overcoming lackluster records; including the recent success of the Florida CUSA twins and UTSA that lack historical winning but are leading CUSA in recruiting.

  11. lol wut. Do you just get on GMG to complain about racism and politics? History is a thing. If they voted to tear it down I couldn't care less. If it really bothers you that much I hope you're beating down the doors of your local representative to destroy the racist shackles that bind our society from truly being happy and prosperous. Maybe one day we can all be as woke as yourself.

  13. The fees were voted on and passed by both the UTSA and Texas State student bodies. Remember it was passed on the basis of moving TSSM to fb division status and at UTSA to establish football. A lot different than getting a student body to increase funding for a football program that has been established for a long time. Also NT's fee is currently at $11 which is a lot more than a quarter of the allowed fee. The max is $20 an hour.

  14. Thanks for the clarifications. Either way, pick a dude. It's not like we're going to be asking this dude to step right in and take us to a national championship.

  17. You know, there is always the option of starting up an external 501(c) entity whose sole purpose is to donate its revenue to specific, restricted gifts to UNT. Screw scholarships, let's start a gold plated toilets in Apogee fund. Even better, let's start a legal defense fund to make sure that student votes go our (the alumni's) way and that student fees get maxed out with 50% increases every year. Maybe a buy out the coaching staff every time our defense gives up a third down conversion fund. The possibilities are limitless! We could (and I believe would be required to) have officers of the fund and could have secret meetings and handshakes and everything. Maybe even lapel pins and tiny flags to fly from our cars.

  18. Perhaps student support, or lack there of, is a reflection of an athletic program that ranks at the bottom on CUSA in alumni giving and football season ticket sales. Putting us in the same boat with Texas State and UTSA is appropriate as I believe we lag behind both of them in these two areas.

  25. Quote from Scout.com: Scout Eval: Fennegan is a quarterback who is able to make a bevy of plays with the football in his hands. He seems to have a real feel for the pocket and works well outside of the pocket or on the run. Fennegan has a quick release and while he is not a dual-threat he moves well enough to be a running threat in crunch situations or if running lanes are left open. He is arm will add natural strength as he adds mass and power to his frame with age.

  28. Texas State is only considered a "peer" when we're asking the students to pay an additional $3.5million. "Hey, it could be more... look at what 'our peer' Texas State is charging!!!! OK, now that we got your money; Texas State is obviously NOT 'our peer'."

  30. I think this election will tell us a lot about the value of athletics to the UNT student body. Frankly, I will be shocked if this passes...I'll still never understand how UTSA and Texas State can charge the most allowed under state law for athletics and we cannot unless the student body votes for it. It makes zero sense to me--unless its because the leadership of theses schools is making the calls on how the fee gets implemented. If its this, everyone on this site ought to question the true direction of what they are supporting.

  32. I will follow a kid, like his tweets about us and retweet his offer tweet with some words about how great he is and that we offfered him. I do not reply to tweets so I’m not technically talking to the player, I’m talking my followers about the player. The recruit appreciates it and I never actually contacted him. Win win in my mind. I saw the other day that Manziel tweet directly to a recruit and that Littrell started retweeting offer tweets so I think we are good.

  36. Basically to me this is like stating a player is more likely to sign with a school that offers him a scholarship than others. Player X goes on an official visit to University Z. You then examine his social media and compare his interest in University Z versus other schools that he has offers from. The school with the highest social media attention than is the predicted winner. Can't argue with that logic, but not sure there anything useful there. Distance is obviously a factor in recruiting but I really don't see it application with the other two factors. If a player has enough interest in a school to take an official visit and follows that school more intensely than any others, I doubt distance is going to be a determining factor. These predictors also leave out the biggest indicator of what drives a recruit's choice. That is the conference affiliation and prestige of that university in that sport. Assuming player X from Dallas and has been intently following SMU via social media for years and gets offers from SMU and Alabama, what are SMU's odds of landing that player?

  38. I hope I am wrong, but I don't like this hire at all. This staff needs someone with Texas ties and hired just the opposite. Not a lot of experience and is apparently going to start at zero to develop a Texas high school network. It looks like a continuation of the thinking that keeps NT far behind the conference leaders in recruiting. This looks like another wasted opportunity for NT to improve their relationship with Texas high school coaches.

  42. Definitely defense.....and in the run-stopping/stuffing category. English needs to be back and fulfilling the promise/.hope of his middle clogging abilities. If that doesn't work out then a more bulked up version of some of the young D-lineman that got playing time last fall (Kasnigi, Novil, Reynolds). Offense... replacements for our graduated offensive lineman. And, like I said in my advocacy of Conner Means being moved to RB, a fast power back to provide a change of pace from our quick and fast Mr. Smith.......and others. Not counting our fullback, we have four running backs on our roster that weigh in at over 200 lbs. And only one (Andre Alger #34, 5'9X215) that is over 205. addendum: maybe it's this guy......http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/05/29/sfa-running-back-loren-easly-plans-transfer-unt addendum (2). Like Conner Means, Mr. Easly selected an excellent historical number to wear.....23. Former players wearing #23 The late (and great) Bernard Jackson (78-80) holder of the single season rushing record (1451 in 1978) until broken by Patrick Cobbs (1680 in 2003). That's 25 years. The very steady and durable Monty Moon (84-88) Still the career passing record holder, Mitch Maher (92-95)

  43. Because of the public nature of Twitter and how out there the information is, there is no possible way to punish a single program for this and not get themselves into a huge nightmare. They would have to punish all if they do punish. I would imagine that they would be more likely to send out a general warning to everyone if they do anything. I think the more likely scenario is that they do absolutely nothing.
