  1. The game starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday if anybody is near Denton and could make it. They were $15 each. I could use a couple but will give up all nine and stand in right field if that means more people rooting on the Green Wednesday. I wanted to keep them out of the hands of Aggie fans. I know this doesn't belong in this forum but wanted to maximize visibility to help benefit the softball ladies.

  2. I nominate Harry, SUMG, Firefightin Rick and Scott Campbell and UNT Lifer. For starters.

  4. Not every kid coming straight from HS needs a ton of development. If they demonstrate enough to for us to believe they can contribute, get them! I think Layne would have helped us. This is all moot now. We released him, and it was for honorable reasons.

  6. Does anyone know if a player announces he is transferring to another school, is that binding or can they back out whenever they want. Is there such a thing as a binding commitment anymore? You would think we have to be getting some guys in here on visits but maybe they just aren't making it public to try to hold on to some. Usually word leaks out,

  7. Excellent post! It’s inconceivable that we are to blindly give money into a system that has no obligation or requirement to account for the allocation of those funds. Kind of like the government. No thanks.

  8. I give, why is this humiliating? NT apparently didn't believe he was good enough to play here and released him to go elsewhere. He signed with Central Arkansas, not exactly a powerhouse. Although with NT losing about every player to the transfer portal and their current sleuth recruiting, it is impossible to access NT's strategy. I am hoping there is a strategy.

  9. I understand one of the National Champion Mean Green polo ponies has entered the portal in search of greener pastures.

  10. Great news: The Mean Green have won this national polo championship for an unprecedented two years in a row. Not so great news: The Mean Green polo ponies have entered the transfer portal ….Rumors are it was the allure of more NIL hay.

  11. Pretty sad. That in all her years as the CUSA Commissioner, this is about the only picture of her.

  12. Due to NIL and the portal, AAC schools have become mere farm clubs for the P-5 who are nearing a monopoly on athletic talent. Maybe the new UNT logo should be an eagle sitting on a farmer’s plowshare!
    2 points
  13. Yep. They want an NIL? I want a list of what players are being paid what amount and how their name, image or likeness is being used to earn these dollars. The fans give this money so we have a right to know. These kids entering the portal and signing elsewhere, I want to know what we offered/paid and what the new school is paying. Too much secrecy when the fan base is paying the salaries.

  15. Steve Sloan dies at 79: Ex-Ole Miss coach won two national titles as player under 'Bear' Bryant at Alabama - CBSSports.com Not sure why our alma mater wasn't listed, but he was the AD for my first few years here in Denton while I was a student. Even got to do an interview with him for a communications class when I was a sophomore. He admitted to me that day in his office that the administration just didn't support sports enough to compete with the schools in the SWC back then and that it was really frustrating.

  16. Now there was an administrator that spent way more time on the golf course than in the office.

  17. Let me also add, I worry for Rubin and Aaron etc as they can be taken advantage of right now from these other schools. Evidently, James Reese and Drez did not get what they were promised when they left. You are truly a stranger in a strange land in many respects. And you have no laws to support you if they are bad actors.

  18. No they can transfer out as much as they want is my understanding as there are no set rules being enforced. It truly is the wild wild west!

  19. If Ross has to do a complete rebuild next year, what is a realistic expectation? Before the mass exodus, I felt like we were in a position to be a top 4 team in the AAC. Now I don't think that is a fair assumption. To many unknowns.

  25. Thank you. I hate to lose him--he is a far cry from a "developmental high school recruit"--but I understand things a whole lot better now.

  34. Is this really that much different than JUCO level, where he had to remake the roster each year?

  35. Next season will be fun. We’re going to learn a lot about Ross’ talent evaluation and what kind of team he wants. I’m excited in that regard.

  36. Honestly, I would not be surprised if Coach Hodge encouraged the guys to dip their feet in the portal to see if they can't secure more money elsewhere. He loves these players, and wants what's best for them. I highly doubt he subscribes to the Littrell mantra of, "Once you're gone, you're gone". I bet he still keeps in touch with them, letting them know that they still have spots here (with the same, if not more NIL$) if they don't get what they're looking for elsewhere. As has been stated several times before... Coach Hodge is cut from the JUCO cloth. Turnover is constant in the JUCO world. He knows how to deal with this.

  37. if Aaron Scott, Rubin Jones and/or Jason Edwards announced that they were leaving UNT before their eligibility expired in order to turn professional...whether that be in the NBA, G-League or Europe...what would y'all's reaction be?
    1 point
  38. I'll play or at least try to explain the reaction we observe. Can't speak for everyone, but I think most (maybe all) would be absolutely fine with the scenario you lay out above. I think your real question is why do people react negatively when our players (especially starters/stars) hit the portal, but welcome with open arms players that transfer in. The latter doesn't need a lot of explanation. I'll try to dissect the former. I think the initial visceral reaction when "our players" choose to leave is deeply-rooted in the fragile psyche of the Mean Green fan base. Those here are passionate about the University of North Texas, want good things for the school, want the athletic teams to be successful and desperately want the recognition that comes with winning and championships. In the case of athletic success much of that is dependent on the athletes. They become the vehicle for that recognition. When athletes choose to come to UNT over other schools it serves as a type of consensual validation of the choice each of us made to attend here. When those same player spend 3 or 4 years developing their skills, becoming starters or stars on the team, they are seen, rightly or wrongly, as a catalyst that will surely get us over that hump and the recognition we are all starved for. Plus we get to know them well...they are one of us. Then on the cusp of everything good that will come next season, they choose to leave. It's like they are saying they have outgrown us and they cannot get where they want to be if they stay associated with UNT. For those that are so passionate about North Texas, that's hard to hear and it hurts. On top of that, throw in the realization that any success that athlete may have in his or her one year at XYZ U will accrue to XYZ U and not North Texas. That's like rubbing salt in the wound. Eventually, I think everyone gets over it, but for the long-suffering fan base it's just another hit. It's a rather ordinary and understandable emotional reaction when you think about it.

  40. Tech fans have a deep hate (no exaggeration) for UT and A$M. They have always viewed those schools as their rivals. Unfortunately for them, those feelings have never been reciprocated. A$M hasn't scheduled them in football or basketball since leaving the Big 12 and Texas has already indicated that they will not be scheduling them in football in the foreseeable future and after this incident I doubt they will schedule them in Basketball. Tech fans are at least in part responsible for the refusal to schedule games.

  41. What is that? This is just a made up term. The comment is italics is comedy gold. The Left refuses/can't even define what a woman is anymore. They are so delusional, I don't see how any woman could vote for them. As far as the CNN article, it is too bad the state school board official did that, as social media was not the appropriate means at all, but that is the world that the woke left has created.

  43. Seeing Sports Illustrated die is a lot like watching Old Yeller get shot. It was once a beloved mainstay of our sports culture as it reviewed the past weeks biggest events, previewed the upcoming, and made superstars of those that graced its cover. Unfortunately, like Old Yeller, it was infected with a horrible virus (wokeism, not hydrophobia) that made it toxic and it needed to be put out of its misery.

  44. Interesting take, but ignores the fact that most of the print media is gone including newspapers and magazines. Not because of the social influence game but because few read anymore and even fewer will pay for the privilege.
