  3. We're going to find out in a hurry what kind of coaching staff we have. Do we have one that will make excuses? Or, do we have one that takes lemons and makes lemonade? Personally, if the offense is ticking along, I don't see how Carey's 37 or so catches from a year ago aren't replaced. The 3-star tight end, and the 6-5ish receiver signed in February should be able to help make up. With or without Carey, though, the truth about the 2011 offense remains the same as before - will the OL coach be able to get his young charges to create enough holes to make Dunbar the constant threat that will force defenses to commit a safety to play up to stop the run, thereby opening up the pass game a little more? You've got to look back and see how McCarney did it at Iowa State. He had 2,000+ yard rushers. This is a coach who will let a tailback take the ball 30-40 times a game and win ugly. I really don't give a flying fark how it's done, as long as we start winning. A team isn't made of one player. These are a different breed of coaches than we've seen at anytime since Hayden Fry was here. And, I still say this is the Belt, and the climb from the bottom isn't steep. As Howard Schnellenberger has famously said, "The only variable now is time." Damn right, Howard! Sun Belt...get ready for your beatings! Uglyball is back in Denton to wear your asses out one rush at a time on offense, one hard hit after another on defense, and a vicious, relentless, and efficient special teams to knock your dicks fully in the dirt when the clock hits four zeroes! Adios, Carey. One player does not a team make. KA-TANGA!

  4. --Show respect and you will usualy get respect ..... show disrespect and you will likely get the same. pretty much true everywhere. --Having said that, there are a few jerks in every group .... some more than others.. especially if it contains a lot of arrogant SOBs (SMU).

  6. And it might just offer a small paradigm change for a group of privileged student athletes. These dudes workout this hard to stay alive. Literally. So after a tough workout and you head to the training room for treatment, then to the caf for some food and then your room later, all in A/C and first class facilities, these guys are sweating their asses off in the shit holes of the world, eating freeze dried crap and sleeping on cots and all the while will get no glory like a fall Saturday afternoon.

  11. Well, we got the answer, and the answer was NO...no problem being 1-0 at half...nice sub in Rampone (spelling?) who scored in seconds after being inserted to open the second half. Well done, ladies...3-0 over Columbia. Now, on to a game against Sweden (it should be a tough contest), but whatever happens against Sweden, the U.S. is in the quarterfinals! GO USA!!!!

  20. I think you'll find most Coog fans to be friendly and reasonable, especially if you're friendly and reasonable. If you're a jerk, especially on an opponent's site, you can expect the same to be returned. There will be exceptions as there are with every fan base, but if you show respect with Coog fans, you'll get it from most in return.

  21. There is the Carswell Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, so it likely the Marines came from there. I'm not sure how accurate this is but I think the units based at Carswell JRB are: Marine Air Group 41 Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 234 Marine Fighter/Attack Squadron 112 14th Marine Regiment 8th Marine Corps District

  23. Carey must have used bad judgement in order to get kicked off the team, but I wouldn't call the young man a quitter. I will always be grateful for the wonderful plays he made for North Texas, and I wish him the best with his life. I hope he learns from this moment and becomes a better young man for it. I'm sure McCarney feels the same way.

  24. We really need a jersey with interchangeable numbers, so that way when 12 of our players get hurt like last year we can just simply change the number.

  25. Let us not forget that being a student athlete it is a privilage and not a right. I stand behind Coach. Set the tone early. If he's wiling to dismiss our 2nd most effective offensive weapon, then no one is immune. While it worries me on many levels, imagine how hard the decision for Coach Mac must have been, which makes me respect him even more. Unfortunate.

  28. Exact quote of who??? ---I have said the debt is still climbing..... but of course we now owe more interest, have less revenue due to the unemployment that started in 2008, and are paying out far more unemployment than in 2000, less capital gains tax collected because of losses many took and now carry over... plus the tax on capital gains are still 15% and not 20% as they had been prior to 2001 (those were cut bt 25% by the last administration from 20% to 15%) and the current administration tried to get that raised in December back to where it was. but could not get enough votes ... the increase would have affected only those making over $250,000 .... which doesn't include 90+% of the people. ---I am guessing that if you got a $100 raise that your income tax would increase by more than $15 (mine would).... but under the current system passed by the last administration and the congress... the Warren Buffet, Ross Perot types who make most of their income on capital gains [stock and real property] pay only 15%. So much for taxing the rich. They pay less percent-wise. The "working rich" or those getting a large salary do pay more but not the "filthy" rich that live on investments. . Please think about this and what you really support .... it is true. ---I do agree with you about Perry and Bush... Bush was an decent man and I don't trust Perry... but Bush despite that made some bad decisions and the economy sunk and we went into a war we didn't need to be in. According to an article I read today he took what had been the largest surplus in history to the point we had the worst deficit....ever. ---Voting for President is a bit like selecting a doctor for a serious surgery... would you want one that was a good Christian, honest, nice guy, etc. but a lousy surgeon ....or ... one a little less decent but extremely good at surgery.....?? Both are important decisions and your life or lifestyle will be a stake. I don't dislike Bush.... but things went to hell economically and they were very good before him.... even the DOW had more than tripled... instead of dropping 6000+ as it did in 2008. We still haven't recovered well... unemployment is now stable but not up much, DOW is up a lot, and we are no longer bailing out banks, and auto companies as we were or were about to do so. . Are things good.... no... but they are better that things were when everything going to hell including housing and repos. None of the current problems started in this administation... they already existed... tough to stop a run-away train and get things back to where they were especially when facing a hostile Congress. All I ask is think about what I said.... none of it is false or misrepresented. ---On the personal level it is prety easy to keep a credit card debt under control when you owe little... a lot tougher when the debt balance is high.... same with the national debt. It is now extremely high compared to the end of 2001... about $5 trilion then... $14 or so now. he was a decent nice guy... but not conservative ... which most people take to mean earn (collect) enough to pay expenses... by cutting expense or earning more..... neither happened .. in fact we collected a lot less due to the tax cuts that most of us got very little of. We did get the debt though. .

  29. --Financial conservative. ...yes!! The last one that claimed to be conservative raised the debt more an all other 42 Presidents combined and it has not gotten any better. It is not all about the White House but Congress and who controled it 10 of the past 14 years. Some here think I am a screaming liberal... far from it... that is why I posted so much against what was happening then plus I doubted the Iraq war was even justified... it wasn't.. no WMD and no connection to 9-11.... was I wrong?? ---Most of the people Saddam, who did no terrorist acts against us or Europe, (Reagan even gave him weapons to fight Iran) was killing tended to be Islamic crazies that wanted to overthrow him like they had done in Iran. He opposed the same guys we opposed. Yes, he was a thug but it made no sense to me, lots of thugs out there as we now see very clearly this spring.. --I would not exactly call Perry a financial conservative .. just cheap. Financial conservative means you earn (collect) enough money to pay your expenses**... Only three states have a bigger budget problem that Texas..... and we may have the best economy of all 50... he cut income too much (for supporting businesses) but did any of your taxes go down.. examples: sales, gasoline, alcohol, tobacco, ... nope. Your property tax rate may have dropped .... but evaluations were mostly raised so you likely paid more. **1000's in education losing jobs and social services for the handicapped, mentally and physically are being cut. .

  30. --- I agree with you.... 70 is way too high or roads like that..especially for trucks that don't travel long distences (gravel/water etc.) You may not be aware but Texas does have speed limits of 80 mph on some Interstates now --between Kerrville? and El Paso, also Monahans? and El Paso. It may be 70 at night. Even so that is a lot safer than 70 on that Granbury road which I use some getting into the metro-plex. I've been known to "stretch the limit " some on these West Texas roads but on crowded roads and city streets I just don't get it.. how much time to you really save and at what risk?

  31. --Obviously he is no saint but I agree with Rick that he is not THAT bad either. He likely did not know Illinois law about gun possession or registration and never checked.. If having a gun in a car was illegal here then I am a hardened criminal because I grew up with one in my vehicle (we had cattle and snakes). If he is from Arizona he likely had no idea the law was that different. I see the aggravated assault charges were dropped and the "assault " was verbal not physical. I don't own or like assault weapons but I know of people who own them here in Texas and have them in their homes. 40 mph in a 25 mph zone...how often do I see that happen every day. His drunk driving charge was bogus because he was under the legal limit. The murder situation is bad but he apparnetly did nothing illegal.... just guilty of bad judgement of being present. I think Chicago over-reacted because of the Pacman Jones situation. ---Sounds like he is bit stupid and very unlucky..... and not really an outlaw. I do not see that he is guilty of any violent act or theft. He may be a better guy than some of these tele-evangelists (con men) that constantly rip people off and have all sorts of morality problems....

  34. Lest you think I'm an old curmudgeon, let me say I am retired from the Air Force, been shot at many times, deployed to various hell-holes around the world for many years, etc etc. As I said in my post, if this is a recruiting tool, fine. The military is sworn "to support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic" and to do that, you have to have to recruit. Providing color guards at football games, sponsoring race cars, etc are all effective in this effort and justified. But what part of the Marine's mission involves training football teams? There is so much waste in our military budget and this bothered me tremendously while on active duty. I did whatever I could to reduce this, especially as I became more senior. Unless the university reimbursed the Marines, here is what this probably cost: federal per diem in the Dallas area is about 200 a day. If there are 8 of them and they arrived yesterday and leave tomorrow, we are speaking of 3000 in addition to their wages. I'm not aware of any Marine bases in the DFW area but if there are, then we are just speaking about the time away from their normal responsibilities. 3000 is nothing to the federal budget but as I told my troops when I saw waste, think of it as a citizen's entire year of income tax. In other words, your year of hard work paid for a football workout. Off my soapbox now and back to football!

  46. Couple of thoughts- We went to this game. OU's new defensive coordinator that year was Rex Ryan, who earned a Super Bowl ring with the Baltimore Ravens a couple of years after that, and now coaches the New York Jets. This wasn't the greatest OU team, but we played them tough. Both teams were starting new QBs with new offensive coordinators. Still, a couple of years later, most of those OU starters were taking Bob Stoops to a national championship. We were prepared...a lot more prepared than Todd Dodge and his 2007 team were up in Norman. In 2007, OU and UNT were also breaking in new QBs. Granted, OU's two starting receivers that night, the QB, and the starting TE ended up in the NFL, but.... Finally, I know it's no newsflash that I like that darker shade of green we were sporting back then.
