Beyond the Green:Spring edition

I loved seeing DW in the video run play action off the fly sweep and throw the skinny post. I personally saw him running read option the 2nd spring practice. If this is what's to come I am loving it. I loved hearing Coach say they want to run more uptempo. DW is going to be dangerous if he gets the nod. GMG

"Continue to play at an up tempo pace."

Is my memory slipping? I recall us rarely playing at this pace last year? Am I mistaken?

Thank you! I seem to recall us getting a turnover right before halftime in the MUTS game. We had a couple of minutes on the clock, but did we go out there and immediately take it down field? Hell no, we went DD and "ran the rock"....and I started booing. Yes, we were ahead at that point by about 20, but going boldly down field (aka going "up tempo") and scoring would have basically given us the win at halftime.

The only thing really "up tempo" last year was our special teams and our defense.....which BTW scored almost as much as our offense.....in some games more.

I hate when we kill the clock with anything above 50 second left in the half.

This is all just off season coach speak, much like how we heard last year how wide open the offense was going to be, only to see the same ole same ole rolled out there.

Mac is going to play hard nosed D with an offense that concentrates primarily on not turning over the ball and grinding the opposing defense. And that's fine, as long as you win.

Disregard everything said in the spring. It means nothing.

yeah, that is what he does. But at North Texas Coach Mac has never an athlete at QB. I think Mac isn't opposed to playing the offense to the skill level of his players, hence Seneca Wallace. I think it will be more uptempo and a little more opened up. If they have any intent on using DW's legs (which if he starts they will) the offense would HAVE to be a little more spread out to create space. I'm not saying expect to watch an 80 play a game offense, but expect it to be opened up a little granted it DW gets the nod.

I think if McNulty is the starter, expect less throwing (and more INTs per pass attempt) and more running. At least with McNutly they will mix in more zone read and desgined Qb runs. With Greer, I would think the offense would be more balanced, with about the same number of Qb runs as DT.

McNulty will only start if there are injuries.
