Thoughts on Wallace, a big addition for UNT

UNT appears as if it picked up a huge piece of its future and a potential replacement for senior middle linebacker Zach Orr today when Anthony Wallace said he’s almost positive that he will enroll at the school in the next couple of weeks.

Wallace played two years at Oregon and had a role. He posted 13 tackles in 15 games at the school.

The way the depth chart set up made it seem unlikely that Wallace would see that role increase significantly in the final two years of his career. Oregon’s middle linebacker and strong side linebacker were seniors last year, but the backups listed on the depth chart for the final game of the regular season were both redshirt freshmen.

Wallace seems like he will have a great opportunity at UNT with Zach Orr graduating at the end of the year. Wallace will have a year to get ready, compete and secure a spot as the walk-in starter as a junior in the middle of UNT’s 4-3 defense.

That looks like it will be a great situation for UNT, which needs to upgrade its talent across the board as it heads into Conference USA.
