New Non-AQ vs AQ BCS Bowl Likely Worth 20 Million

I noticed there wasnt a link to these articles over here so figured people might be interested. These are two articles from Tuesday that give alot of information about the new 7th BCS Bowl that will offer a guaranteed slot for the highest ranking non-AQ champ. One article is by Mandel, the other by Dodd.

If finalized, a seventh playoff bowl worth approximately one-quarter that of the Rose Bowl will be added in 2014.

Industry sources told CBSSports.com that the as-yet unsold, unnamed bowl would be worth approximately $20 million in the TV market, $60 million less than the top tier Rose and (pending deal with the) Champions bowl. But the money is less of a factor than the new bowl's creation itself, which will give access to the five current non-BCS conferences, including the Big East, beginning with the first playoff year in 2014.

BCS commissioners said last week they would consider adding a seventh bowl to the current six-bowl rotation.

2. The Sun Belt Conference: For years, it's been known as the worst of the FBS conferences. This month, though, it has really taken a big step forward. The biggest statement came when Louisiana-Monroe , led by QB Kolton Browning, shocked No. 8 Arkansas , a 30-point favorite. ULM has since put big scares into Auburn and Baylor to keep the nation's attention. Meanwhile, Western Kentucky , fresh off a 42-17 demolition of defending Conference USA champSouthern Miss , is 3-1. That win improved the Sun Belt to 4-1 head-to-head against C-USA. Oh, and ULM seems set to give the SBC another win over a C-USA program when it visits Tulane this weekend.

And just how has all this SBC success translated into Top 25 rankings with even the 'Belt's better teams thru the years?

I thought Troy U had a team a few years ago that should have honest to goodness been in the Top 25 but....they only received votes. ULM most admirably beats #8 ranked Arkansas but they only received votes for that magnificent feat. Anyone else detect an on-going trend when it concerns Top 25 (non)rankings for the Sun Belt Conference's better football teams?

North Texas will be in a conference that has schools which broke into Top 25 rankings many years ago with 3 CUSA schools that wiill still be in this league

when we join it in 2013. And I guaran'darn'tee you there is not one SBC school today who would turn down an invite to Conference-USA.

GMG!

I actually see this as good news for us little guys-- although it is a very nice way to CYA by the AQ leagues to squelch any possible litigation from the non-AQ schools or their home states. It sure beats the heck out of the AQs running off and creating (officially) their own new coalition to keep it all to themselves.
