Healthy Again, UNT Players Angle for Return

J.J. Johnson spent a whole lot of time watching from afar as North Texas’ season spun out of control last year.

The senior stood on the sideline at practice and in home games, just one in an unusually large group of players who had their season ended by injuries. Wide receiver Chris Bynes, safety DaWaylon Cook, running back James Hamilton were just a few of the other players who had their seasons cut short.

Each will return this season and present something of a quandary to new UNT head coach Dan McCarney. Several of them missed spring practice while recovering from everything from serious knee injuries to foot ailments and didn’t start practicing until UNT opened fall camp.

Phil Steele's COLLEGE FOOTBALL has an article about how teams often bounce back after injury plagued years.

2010 Starts Lost To Injury

Although North Texas is listed in the top ten for starts lost due to injury, 21 offensive and 16 defensive, it sure seems that there were a lot more than that. Maybe the stats don't consider the reserve players that missed starts due to injury after the initial starters were lost.

Can anybody on here prove or disprove Steele's figures?

Good find--another reason for measured optimism. And yes, I thought it was quite a bit more starts lost than that.
