"7. NORTH TEXAS - Johnny Jones has quietly transformed UNT from a consistent loser into a consistent winner. The Mean Green made the Big Dance in 2007 after rolling through the Sun Belt Tournament, and were solid last year, going 17-11 against D1 teams. Once again in 2008, North Texas should be dangerous in league play. "

In the chance UNT does not make it to the NCAAs, let's hope a 20 win season will get them to NIT or SOMEWHERE this year.

I think to make a 20 win season mean more, NT has to play some better opponents. Cameron, Sam Houston State (twice), Jackson State and Houston Baptist are not going to add to their RPI. I like the Indiana State, Houston, and Oklahoma State games though.

We need to start playing strictly D1 opponents except for maybe the initial scrimmage. The NCAA does not recognize non D1 wins, so they are almost worthless. Don't get me wrong, when I talk about NT basketball I proudly point out consecutive 20 win seasons along with the NCAA trip, but I also conveniently forget to mention the non D1 wins. I think the program is past the point where we need to schedule the cupcakes to boost confidence and we are to the point that we can try to make a name for ourselves with a decent OOC schedule. Football, on the other hand...

Sam Houston has a good program with a great coach. NT better not look past them or they'll have 2 loses before they know it.

I agree it is also good to up the competition level, especially when you want to take a program to the next level like Jones has/will. But I disagree somewhat with the analysis on Sam Houston and UTA... they may not be power house schools, but these are legitimate D1 games that we better be ready for....
