Actually we've got SEVEN 3-star recruits. Troy Franklin is a Scout 3-star and a 5.4 rated Rivals 2-star. 5.5 is 3-star with Rivals & they nick Franklin by .1. With all the good stuff that's been said about his ability, seems that he should have his 3rd star with Rivals also.

Don't get me wrong, I love to count the stars. But when they step on the field the stars go away and we see how all the players do. I really like some of the lower "star" profiles. In that group you are likely to find a kid that has a lot more drive, because they have been working hard, less is given to them. We are in good shape. Great AD, great coaches, great kids, great fans!!

Simple philosophy about star ratings. In the grand scheme, they don't mean anything until you do it on the field. However, you would rather have recruits with them than without them. As the late great Ron Shanklin used to say, "Potential means you haven't done s#%t yet!" At least those with a solid star rating are being evaluated by multiple people who all see the "potential".

And as of the past hour or so rivals has upgraded Franklin to 3-star 5.5 so we offically have 7.

I also just noticed although 2 star on rivals scout lists Adryan Adams as 4-star.

Is there any reason why Knott would not be listed as "Signed Letter of Intent" since he is already enrolled at UNT?

I have asked a couple of people and not gotten an answer.

Oh and to be on-topic. Wow this is a great pickup. I thought that K State would wrap him up during that visit. Bring on the pass rush!

It must not have been reported to rivals that he's enrolled. I wasn't sure he had enrolled already since he signed after Juco signing day just a week before semester started.

I would like to know how Rivals.com develops their total

Rivals.com points. Our current North Texas class with the

24 commitments, and 7- 3 star rated players, has North

Texas at # 76, with 95 total Rivals.com points.

The 2007 North Texas class had 85 points.

Troy, has 16 commits, 4- 3 star players, with 116 Rivals.com

points, and is # 72.

I checked Rivals.com history for North Texas. The highest total

Rivals.com points for North Texas was the 2003 class with 790

Rivals.com points. 2004 was 126, and droped off below 100 for

the 2005 and 2006 classes. What was North Texas record over the

past few years, 5-18? Looks like the record reflects directly to

Rivals.com class points.

Now I am happy as a pig in mud with this class, and not complaining

at all. With a successful 2008 season, the North Texas class for

2009 will be even better, and hopefully earn higher Rivals.com

points.

Charlie has identified an interesting project.

One of you young posters that has access to multiple regression software could design a problem using Rivals points and seasonal won-lost records to determine how much of a correlation exists.

I'd do it myself, but I'm 62, too tired and it would interfere with my Shiner consumption. :P

Noticed Blake Gumm is still not committed, nor Blasey from Navarro. Blasey may be an academic casualty considering he's not showing any schools of interest. Man, if we could now get Gumm to sign on the dotted line, this could be an unbelievable recruiting class.

Gumm is supposedly visiting Western KY...If he didn't have the grades...I wonder why W KY is still bringing him in?

Rivals point system is askew. If a kid is ranked in his states top ???? then he counts as more points towards thats teams overall recruit rankings. Even though in some smaller Northeast states you kid be in the top 10 with a 5.3 ranking.

This is why I ignored their weighting system when I looked at Texas and Belt recruiting in another thread. I just looked at numbers of 4, 3, 2, and 0 star players, under the reasonable assumption that a 3-star from California and a 3-star from Rhode Island are still both 3-stars. If you have to start comparing where they rank in their respective states, the entire rationale of their star system falls apart.

So if you consent to my simplified comparison, we're far better off than Troy or anybody else in the Belt, and behind only UT, AM, TT and Baylor in Texas. We're just barely behind Baylor; if we picked up just one 4-star, we'd be better off than them.
